What Happened To Zac Brown?

Ойын-сауық

As of late, not only has the Zac Brown Band changed their sound, but front man, Zac Brown, dropped a surprise solo album. From Zac Brown Band's "The Owl" and Zac Brown's solo single "Swayze," it has raised a lot of questions from fans.

When Zac dropped the f-bomb on an award's show, I knew something was taking a wrong turn. And I knew the album was going to be horrible once a few of the songs got released. I'm done now. It was an awesome run. The things that got me were the meaningful lyrics, the awesome harmonies, and I loved that violin. Farewell, Zac.

It’s a damn shame. Such great potential and they turn their back on their fans and country music. The Band Perry disappointed me to NO END. Now it’s Zac Brown. At least with Zac Brown you could see it coming. They were doing a lot of reggae type stuff towards the end. The Band Perry just left. Sad.

Good for Zac Brown for trying new things; especially without getting your approval first, & actually not giving a flying ph*ck period on anyone questioning his country bonafides by taking a short detour between ZBB albums. (NOTE: I've never considered ZBB traditional country) His collaboration with Kygo resulted in something pretty freakin cool. No not your normal ZBB fare which is why these tracks were released under ZB & Sir Rosevelt. "It Goes On" (from 12 STRONG), "Something About You," and "Hurricane" are great tracks off the latter. Clearly Zac had a lot of fun with "Sunday Finest," which while not my fav and certainly outside Zac's norm, is catchy and fun. The OWL is a fine album from the band also.

As a long time fan who’s been to many ZBB shows and truly appreciates how talented this band is... this is my theory... I think what’s going on with Zac right now is a drug fueled mid life crisis combined with complete ego mania. I think he believes that anything with his name on it will succeed. I also think he has dreams of ZBB being the biggest band ever in every genre. The Owl was his attempt at a big crossover hit and his solo album was going to be such big news that it would hold true to its name - “Controversy” 🤢. After all, there’s no such thing as bad publicity, right...? But in reality... where most of us live... this is what you’ve done Zac: You have 1. NOT gotten the pop/EDM/rap fan base that you’ve sold your soul for. 2. You’ve disgraced your band, arguably the best group of musicians ever compiled in any genre. 3. Last but certainly not least, you’ve completely alienated your core fan base, aka people who spent their hard earned dollars to get you where you are today. And ok... for everybody who’s going to say “they were never strictly a ‘country band’ and never professed to be” - you’re right... but they also have a signature sound, the incredible musicianship and harmonies that made us fall hard and fast the first time we heard them. But The Owl changed all that. You could take some second rate hack musicians and with enough computer magic create what is “The Owl” - or as I affectionately call it “The Bowel”. Short of a complete 180, and Zac and the band saying “The Owl was a mistake and I’m not sure what we were thinking” I don’t think there’s much to salvage of their career. Yes you will always have the blindly loyal who love everything they do, no matter how bad it is. But for the bulk of their fan base, we’re done. Sad, but done. We’ll miss the old ZBB and hope they come back some day. In the meantime at least we have their old songs, before The Bowel...

Zac been as asshole since day one. Right before ‘Chicken Fried’ hit the scene real big, ZBB played the Blindhorse in Greenville,SC and I witnessed him throwing a hissy fit that there wasn’t much turn out with the crowd. I also heard him make fun of the kind of crowd that was there. He thought everyone was beneath him. I’ve been around my fair share of artists and his behavior that night made lose respect for him. He’s always been a douchebag but he’s now letting everyone see him for what he is,... a Grade A asshole. He’s been lucky to made it as far as he did in country music,...I should say he’s lucky he has a dad that financially helped support him.

I still enjoy both album for not being country but I much prefer them doing their traditional sound and only a little experimentation. I will say there are still some good songs on the bands new album like Me and the Boys in the Band, shoofly pie, and leaving Love Behind. Also on his solo album the song Always and Never is a really nice paino ballad with some pedal steel in the background. And for the people saying this is because of drugs or a mid life crisis, just stop. You literally can't make assumptions off some songs and his experimentation. I know he had the divorce and that sucks but if there's some actual news that he is going through some stuff the best thing to do is to support him while he's going through it and hope for the best.

Loved ZBB. Don’t like this new album. Haven’t heard the solo yet. This is funny however, because he dogged Luke Bryan. (Well I’m typing this as I watch.) The narrator just talked about the Luke Bryan deal. I like Luke because he’s a standup guy and he’s more country-rooted than most country artists now. His music is a mix of course. But it’s definitely not as poppy as ZBB now.

I tend to have a more nuanced view on this: people hate on him now for “not being country anymore”, well, ZBB have rarely been 100% country. What the new record fails at, though, it’s just the outstanding musicianship and harmonies they’d been singular at in the crossover country music category. The Owl is rather simplistic harmonically, largely void of instrumental technique prowess, and made to sound way too radio-friendly for its own good. That all.

Well we're all talking about it, and as the saying goes any publicity is good publicity. Zac Brown has always been musically diverse. Hes done reggae and rap, blues and pop even back in the earlier days. It's not my cup of tea but why is it such a bad thing that he explores different areas of creativity? I still support the man and his band and I still think they're some of the most talented artists today and way better than Luke Bryan! Haters gonna hate. And as far as that Swayze song, as bad as it is I bet you cant listen to it without singing the hook in your head long after you turned it off lol

Ya know what really gets me about u supposed fans??...when hes good and at the very top of his game u love him and praise him for being so damn good!!... but the moment he started slipping not falling completely yet just barely slipping u criticize him for how awful and bad he sounds....whatever happened to uplifting someone when they were down and still showing them support and letting them know that everything will be ok with whatever they are going through??...what the hell has happened to that?? What happened to the place that we use to call America? Where people rise and fall but we didn't give up on them.. we were right there to catch them as they fail and and we helped pick them back up? That's what America use to be that's what we were built on!!!....and now all people do is judge the hell out of someone!!..I'm honestly ashamed to be apart of America where I was born and raised for 40 years, this whole place has gone to hell and still is going to hell!! Lord have mercy on all people including myself that has judge someone more then once in our lives!!!

I listened to the song Swayze and folks I will say I'm not a fan. It's an awful song. I'm a lady and I don't like the words in it. Sorry his kids have to hear such harsh words in a song. It makes me sad he has gone to this point in his career. He is a good singer but now he has found himself slipping away from his fans. People are going to be disappointed with this song. I love Patrick Swayze. I felt this song was talking down on Patrick. Women like to be respected I don't like the B. Word. Shame.

It's so sad to see this country legend release such cringe-worthy material. I hope one day he can get back on track! Also, am I the only one who wants a currently good country singer to write a song about Zac Brown and how he went from making great country music, to calling out Luke Bryan's tailgate single (whilst still making good music), and then to making what is essentially pop, AND FINALLY to making legit pop?

Why cant Zac buy a sports car or get married and then divorced 30 days later to a beautiful 22 yr old Asian women to deal with his "mid life crisis" then ruin his music. I am thinking Zac is finding this reaction to his latest album as amusing and doesn't really care. Reminds me of Chris Gaines or Garth Brooks or whatever that was about.
