What Happened To WEC/UFC Bantamweight Miguel Torres? Most Impressive Win Streak Ever?

Ойындар

Yooo welcome to WhatHappenedMMA the channel where I look back at some more recent mixed martial artists that walked away, went to less prestigious promotions, or flamed out of the sport completely. Legends of the sport will also be covered in retrospective as well. Hope you all enjoy.
Miguel "Angel" Torres was one of if not the most important and polarizing figure in the smaller weight classes of MMA really putting them in the limelight. He had one of the most impressive runs ever in the sport from 2000 - 2009 going 37-1 across various promotions. He was a staple in the WEC bantamweight division reigning as their champion from early 2008 to mid 2009.

*IMPORTANT COMMENT* Welcome back to WHMMA! If you're new the description covers the basis of this channel so check it out but I just wanted say a few things here for all potential viewers. First I apologize for some of the choppy and sudden transitions of audio. My editing is a bit sloppy right now since I haven't done a video in a while so excuse me if I stumbled on a few words as well. Another thing is I'm not really sure what I am and am not allowed to use content wise yet since my previous videos didn't show much footage. I'm fine with no monetization (whenever I get there) as long as the video stays up. I won't sacrifice the quality of content for a dollar. Revenue will come eventually if my content is actually enjoyable. Also if I sound familiar it's because I also have a gaming channel you may have came across on here. But anywho hope you all enjoy the video!

Torres was one of the most uncelebrated under rated fighters to fight in his period and I loved watching him. Torres brought it. As exciting as any UFC great. And that fight with Mizugaki. Whoa. Mizugaki also had my respect.

Trained with him at his new gym in East Chicago years ago he was Crazy fast and strong for his skinny size. Dude really cared about my fighting career I ended up going 6-0 under him. Got my Bellator debut but got hurt and pulled out. He kept pushing me. He was an amazing coach. Sucks he started losing like 4 in a row. Went through his divorce. 44-9 is still amazing record.

Thanks so much bro and man me too. Everyone says he wasn’t the same after the Bowles fights but that couldn’t be more wrong for me because he fought exactly the same and was still durable guys were just getting better. He may not have been championship level at that point but his was still imo a high level UFC caliber fighter. Sucks he only got 4 fights there.

It should be mentioned that Brian Bowles was later caught for doping. After that loss, Torres was never the same again. A definite example how the use of PEDs can ruin people and careers.

I’m actually making a video on Brian Bowles himself so I didn’t wanna dive too deep into him here because I wanted to stay focused on Miguel.

I got into MMA watching WEC and Torres was probably my first favourite fighter as I got into WEC during his insane 11 fight win streak and the dude just blew me away. Aggressively dominant Muay Thai with a slick BJJ base. Those years showed how dominant that combination is. Aldo, Cerrone, Torres… that’s just the tip of the iceberg. And Torres had a reputation at Team Sityodong in the later days of his career and that ain’t no easy feat. He was great to watch and I’ll never forget the first upkick KO I ever saw lol

That’s usually what happens after a KO loss but I believe in Miguel’s case he was already a little banged up from all of those fights and training camps prior to his loss to Brian Bowles. If you watch all of his fights after he fought exactly the same way just steeper competition. He looked good against Mighty Mouse and Marlon Moraes who were both in their prime.

Crazy as a younger older fan of the sport I got into it in 06. I just remember by 2007 the p4p best went 1. Fedor 2. Wanderlei 3. Miguel Torres. Crazy because none of them fought in the ufc.

It’s crazy how people now downplay organizations outside the UFC but if you look at history a lot of the best weren’t in the UFC until late in their careers and a lot of the ones that did come to the UFC in their primes won championships (Rockhold, Alvarez, Lawler, DC) to name a few.

Being 37-1 (arguably 50-something - 1) avenging your only loss, being a undisputed world champion with 3 title defences and having a former heavyweight champion calling you the p4p best in the world That’s stuff that less than 10-20 or so fighters will ever be able to claim even if it was for a very breif period

Yoooooo. Miguel Torres was my favorite fighter to use in one of the old UFC games. I dont remember which one though, probably Undisputed 2 or 3. He was the only one in the game that had the ability to push his opponent into the fence so that they bounced back into him and then you could land an elbow. Not many people knew about it but it was really effective and the animation for it was really cool too
