Let's have a moment of silence for Wario, The Treasure Hunter and the Wario Land series.

I would love a Wario and Waluigi RPG series. It could emphasise Wario traits from across the games with the treasure hunting aspect plus the farts and nose picking. Most importantly it will give Waluigi a chance to star and develop in a game as he deserves it after being a much loved support character for so long.

Yeah, exactly. When people like me are complaining about getting a sequel to games like Splatoon (which I get sold well) despite Nintendo’s massive IP, Warioland is a game that highlights that really well. I think Nintendo needs to find more 3rd party developers they can trust to make games. They have a few amazing teams under the umbrella but I would think they could get another 2-3 teams to make games that are being ignored.

Forgot to mention Wario was in a 3D game called Wario World where he still continued his treasure hunting adventures, not to mention showing off his full fighting power and strength. I really hope some day soon a new Wario Land game will come in the future, I really love those games back when I was a kid, wasn't too interested or fan of the WarioWare series.

Treasure Hunter Wario is best Wario. Not only was he a rough-and-tumble badass with great games, but he also had a dynamic character. He'd have a really gruff exterior and be a bit of a jerk, sure (albeit a cool, fun jerk), but the games saw him develop from ruthless villain to actually gaining something of a conscience and an honor code. This can be seen by how willing he is to help the people of the Music Box World (despite the money promised to him, it turns out that Rudy lied, but Wario seemed just as disgusted with Rudy's plans and what he did to the Music Box people as much as he was angry about no money) and ESPECIALLY in Wario Land 4 with him helping out Shokora and saving her from the Golden Diva while also lifting the curse off the pyramid. Honestly, Wario Land 4 is when Wario cemented himself as being a true hero, and the ending seems to confirm this. Not only does he share a touching moment with Shokora (and she kisses him!), but he also drives home admiring the pretty sunset and reminiscing about the great adventure he had. The lyrics of the end credits add to it, showing how he made peace with his past ("I made peace with the time I had forgotten") and the jealousy and resentment he once harbored had withered away ("all I had gathered turned into sand"). Honestly, it's high time we got a new Wario Land. Enough with the farts and microgames - bring back the treasure and the adventure. Make Wario a badass again.

Wario deserves a new Wario Land, treasure-hunting, mysterious and funny game. It's my favorite phase and where the developers got the most creative.

And now we know they can do it on NSO service But i think we need new game or at least remake or remaster of Wario Land 1 In January 2024 will be the 30th anniversary of the Wario Land series, so there will be an opportunity to do that.

I'm kind of on the same boat as you are, I grew up with toilet humor capitalistic Wario, but my favorite version of him is his unhinged original incarnation where he was created as the Bluto to Mario's Popeye (man what I wouldn't give for a Wario and Waluigi RPG 😭) Also can we talk about how gorgeous that 2D animation is for those Mario Land commercials? It's so expressive, so *s m o o t h*

oh man Wario Land 4 was so bloomin good. I wish we could go back to the GBA era.

Honestly, I want to see that old villainous, unhinged, and fearless Wario combined with the more comedic and goofy Wario in future games. He’s always been a bit gross even in the older games but it was turned up a lot since his beginning. However, I think Wario Land 4 probably did the best in terms of making him feel strong but weird and I want to see THAT Wario come back with a vengeance!

I loved the Wario Land series. Please bring it back!

@@Vincentvondoom The Wario Land series was for the most part a replacement for the 2d Mario games given that the last 2d Mario game before New Super Mario Brothers was the debut of Wario.

Don't forget riding epic motorcycles, pumping irons, and saving the ghost of an imprisoned princess/queen

Wario Land 3 is a top 3 game of all time for me. It's absolutely criminal how the character has been handled.

Wario has always been a gross-out character in Japan. The "hypnotist" version was made up by Nintendo of America. While he wasn't farting in the Wario Land games, he was consistently shown in artwork and other media doing other gross things, like picking his nose. It's no different than the "angry Kirby" that was on the box art of every Kirby game in the 2000's.

@@MoonGhostDoodles Yeah, it's kinda crazy that the description says it's a "fantastic article". It's the same kind of ill-informed bad take I see on social media and Smash forums once a month from people who don't really know anything about the character other than "I REALLY LIKE THAT OBEY WARIO DESTROY MARIO COMMERCIAL" and "EWWW FARTS ARE GROSS".

As a massive fan of the WarioWare series, I have to say there really isn't that much of a difference over time. It's pretty clear the greed of treasure hunting carried over to him making a quick buck on microgames, and I think it makes sense. He's just as psychotic and maniacal throughout WarioWare and often does diabolical things like in Warioland games, and in many ways is just as beefy and tough. I mean you can play him and use the shoulder charge in Get it Together for starters, but also many (if not most) WarioWare games have treasure hunting boss games or at least minigames. I can think of four off the top of my head where you have to get to the end of a cave to hunt for treasure. Also there's a great hypnotism game in Get It Together haha, not that that's a reference. Just like Yoshi being occasionally adjusted to be more adorable and child friendly for Yoshi's Story or Woolly World, or Kirby losing copy abilities in exchange for a cute yarn game where you can't die, or Luigi being turned into an absolutely nervous ghost hunter for the Mansion series, the characters always completely change to fit the skin of a new concept. Wario is still a greedy badass and I don't think much has changed. The WarioWare series just does all kinds of insane things with his character. In case you forgot, they also added Wario Man, giving him flight, super strength, and laser vision. If anything, he's more of a badass now, he's just out of his mind and a slob.

He just hasn’t been lucky like in WL4, and last time he tried, he ended up with a used gold painted potty on his head xd, though he’s still very eager to go treasure hunt and beat whoever’s in the way, as seen in GiT

Wario was once respected as Mario’s rival. He’s better than overused Bowser Jr, & should be a boss more. Wario & Waluigi game = epic, or even a Mario & Luigi game battling or teaming up

I'm old enough to have bought Mario Land 2 and Wario Land when they released originally, they were awesome games I played to death. I really miss Wario actually being in his own games.

Wario got his shoulder bash back in Smash Ultimate, but instead of his side smash, it's his dash attack, which is fitting since the original name of the attack is the "Dash Attack." BTW, Wario World is underrated and deserves a remake/sequel.

Mario spinoff games ruined Wario.

Man, I really do miss that tough, fearless, macho treasure hunter side of Wario. It makes him feel threatening toward his enemies, someone you don’t want to mess with, or he’ll mess you up. The Wario we got now is a complete joke. But at the same time, the wacky dynamic between him and Waluigi works in that favor.

If anything, he dusted off, and came back stronger than ever -- difference is, he knows to stay in his own lane now.

It's worth noting that Warioware was made by Nintendo R&D1, the same dev team that made the Wario Land series

I really hope we get a Wario & Waluigi land game for the switch. Not only because I just really want another wario land game, but because I think waluigi would fit perfectly in the series

I'm over here still waiting for a sequel to Wario World on the GameCube. If not a sequel, then at least a port. I think that game strikes a good balance showing Wario as both a weird, gross man and a macho, tough guy that could kick your ass.

I don’t normally get that shocked when people mention big milestones in years with video games… but Wario being 30 years old is nuts. An odd spinoff character is three decades old? Jeez

I'll tell ya what happened. Sakurai came around and added farts to Wario in Brawl, so spin off devs like Next Level Games was inspired and slowly became a trend. I'll never forget the poorly uploaded video in 2008 of Brawl's reveal and questioned why Wario farted at the end of it. And I've played the Wario land games as young as I can remember. He went from Macho, Bash & Cash to Stinky, Smelly and sure, he may look the part. But damnit, he's so much more. Not to mention R&D1's disband for other Nintendo dev groups would fate Kid Icarus, Wario Land and Metroid to rare game releases. Hence why Metroid Dread took.. forever to become a thing. There's also the passing of Hirioshi Yamauchi and Gunpei Yokoi who would champion for these series to get new games. After that, no one at Nintendo looks at the 3 series I recently mentioned. Pizza Tower, Anton Blast, Treasure Island and other indie games pay proper respect to the Wario Puzzle Platformer.

The farting predates Brawl tho, if anything, it may’ve been Nintendo the ones wanting Wario to double down on the gross humor by making him fart a lot, though his very own games hardly followed, just a single microgame in Smooth Moves, and maybe the poop doodle attack from Master of Disguise, but not much beyond, it wasn’t until Gold were Wario himself actually farted on camera in a Wario game Sakurai may’ve taken a lot of inspiration from the first three WarioWares, which were the latest Wario games during Brawl’s development, while also some moves being exaggerations to Mario’s, since he was conceived as a wackier meaner Mario, even the first Wario Land had many Mario elements like floating item blocks, Mario-style powerups, and Wario turning small when hit, and the heavier inclination to WarioWare may’ve been to further establish that Wario’s its own series beyond Mario in Smash, similar to how there’s a lot more Yoshi Story and DKCountry stuff over Yoshi’s Island and Arcade DK

@@dustymcwari4468 Thats why I was precise on the devs I mentioned. R&D1 didnt rely on gross humor for their games. Whereas spin off devs and even Intelligent Systems just went with whatever was humorous for Wario. Hence why mario sports games and Warioware has a bit of potty humor. But for the Land games, the worst offense Ive seen is eating Garlic. Shake it is from a third party dev, so they thought Wario picking his nose is part of him. Its a matter of which team decides to handle Wario and most of them have gone with the "Haha garlic farting man"

@@rayminishi689 yeah, though it’s kinda odd that suddenly Wario began with the farting during the Wii era, as if someone told the devs that farting was officially a new trait to the character they want to see in game, and only the Wario game devs either refused, or barely fulfilled that, as opposed to the Mario spin-offs and Smash that just gave him weaponized farts and fart taunts right away

I love wario more than Mario, that's a fact. His bulkiness and strength make him a more interesting character to play. Just finish Wario land 1 to three, it's a shame that they don't make more Wario games anymore.

The Wii Kirby remake coming out on the switch next year has me hopeful for a switch port of Wario Land Shake-It.

Remenber how in Master of Desguise, Wario made,in seconds, a device that could fuckin teleport anyone though an tv to the place it's shopping I guess he is as smart a E.Gadd (cuz he also made an teleport tv thing)

The Wario Land series never really clicked with me. I liked Wario World, but it's hard to replay. I do think power ups could have gone a long way. So the tough treasure hunter phase is just kind of whatever to me. I never played Mario Land 2 or any of the games Wario was featured in as a kid but I still knew who he was and he was really built up in my mind as Mario's rival, the Venom to his Spider-Man, when I found out later that Wario had a relatively small role in the Mario mythos, only being the antagonist of one mainline game and being an antagonist in some very small time games like Mario and Wario, Wario's Woods, and Mario Clash, and that Waluigi was literally only in spinoff games, I was kind of deflated. I love the Wario Ware games but it feels like a brand new series they came up with and slapped a popular Nintendo character on to help it sell more... So my feelings on Wario are... very mixed.... It feels like his biggest fans would be the phase 2 fans who are probably also the most disappointed right now. Personally speaking, I wish he would live up to what I thought he was as a kid and go back to being Mario's rival. I love Wario Ware but the series never needed Wario to begin with... and as someone who doesn't enjoy the Mario Party series or the Mario sports games, I never understood the appeal of Waluigi, so i'm not particularly dying to see "Wario and Waluigi's wacky friendship" either. So that's my two cents.

I don't know if anyone will ever see this, but I grew up with Wario primarily from Mario Spin-offs in the GameCube era as well as one game: *Wario World.* To save on details, he was not only a treasure hunter, but a fearless badass and a hero. Sure, he was egotistical (as shown in the manual) but he (as long you as accept the best ending as canon) saved an entire race of beings called the spritelings and singlehandedly defeated droves (if not armies) of various monsters. Assuming you count his victories against bosses and puzzles as his own and not the player's, he's also pretty smart due to his adaptability to various situations. Not to mention his fearlessness in the face of danger, like how he immediately states his position as #1 upon meeting some of the games bosses. I hope we have more of THAT Wario some day.

@@INFERNO95 Wario doesn't really care about anyone. You're right about that. However, at least in Wario World, he's been robbed not by a good person of Robin-hooded justice, but an evil force of nature that creates hordes of monsters and traps an innocent race. Even if he's not inherently good, that doesn't change the fact he still stopped an evil presence and saved the Spriteling race. Does he care about them? Not really. In fact, he just wanted his stuff back and the Spritelings said they'd help him once the Black Jewel was defeated. If he was evil, he would've had to consider whether the "good" of saving the Spritelings was worth violating his "bad" morality. But he's not inherently evil - he didn't hesitate for a second. In fact, the first Spriteling is literally unskippable, implying Wario saved it either by choice or by instinct, in universe. If your enemy is evil, what does that make it's enemy?

I like the 2 and 3 phase both, and Maybe they could be combined?

Wario as a playable character in Mario Kart 64 with his own track... ahhhhhh... good times... But, watch out when making that jump near the end of that course. One of the most fun courses suddenly becomes the most frustrating in an instant!

I desperately need a Warioland 5

My first Wario game was Warioland 4 and the only other one i had was Warioland 3, but i played those games CONSTANTLY because they were so cool and fun. So I'm more accustomed to Treasure Hunter Wario. Though Garlic has ALWAYS been his signature food. I never got a chance to get into the WarioWare games so when he showed up in Brawl I was completely baffled by his weird new outfit and bizarre non-Warioland moveset. (Though apparently his moves are actually from that wario gamecube game). I miss and prefer Treasure Hunter Wario and the Warioland games but i guess microgames are his niche now and I just have to live with it.

I like how the Wario Land series shows Mario for what he is... or rather what he's become. Wario is more like what I imagine Mario would be in real life, a schlubby, fat, gross plummer. That can throw his weight around when he needs to. Mario has more or less become... I don't know how to describe it... sort of like Mickey Mouse. He only has one defining character trait and that's to be the best at everything he does. Bland and boring, get's the kids attention but leaves older people wanting more.

While I grew up with the first two phases of Wario, the WarioWare games are my favorite in the Wario franchise.

Personnally, I love the Wario Land series and I think it really shows what Wario is capable of but on the other hand, I also like the fun way he gets ridiculised with Waluigi in some Mario Sports game openings. I think that the "gross" phase is trying to tie this two up by showing that Wario can do powerful things by using unusual capacities like farting. However, I think that it doesn't work that well... Sure, the Wario Ware games are fun in their own right but I think that they don't picture Wario very well. I would have prefered for the Wario Land series to continue and the Wario Ware series to be something without Wario. I also think that Wario & Waluigi's relationship isn't developped enough so maybe it would have been great to have a "Wario & Waluigi" series to contrast the "Mario & Luigi" one. But now that the gross personnality of Wario is well established, that it is clear that Nintendo just hates Waluigi and that the "Mario & Luigi" series is dead, all those hopes are shattered.

Didn’t realize Warrior and I were about the same age. Warioland 4 for GBA will always have a special place in my heart. Grade school me will always be haunted by that voice going: HURRY UP!

Wario Land and WarioWare can and should coexist in my opinion, and Waluigi should be introduced in both series too. I would also love a new Mario & Luigi game with Wario and Waluigi either as villains or as partners (like the baby bros for example).

We need a Wario World remastered and this time, make Waluigi a playable character so that he can have his first platformer appearance in a Mario game.

I really miss Wario Land Shake It on the Wii. Sadly Nintendo sucks at backwards compatibility even though it's hard to do for Wii games cause of motion controls. They better improve BC a lot.
