I wish I had a dollar for every hot goalie that stole a series and then disappeared into obscurity. It happened to the Devils just last year. A handful of games doesn't mean squat! At the 2019 NHL Entry Draft he was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the sixth round, 156th overall. Nobody was blown away by this kid's talent before his last playoff appearance. Time will tell.

Edmonton’s Achilles heel is goaltending and every player on the team knows they have to shelter the shots that get through which is why their PK is so good. You want your goaltender to bail you out once in a while. Silov’s was doing that all series and you look at Bobrovsky, Ottinger or Saros and they do the same. Skinner is not that kind of goalie. The Garland goal was a defensive zone mistake but it’s a saveable shot for some goalies. As an Edmonton Fan I worry that Ottinger is going to be the difference in the next series.

The only time they turned on the desperation and actually took risks was in the last 3 minutes of the game. As a fan of both Van and WPG, I got major Winnipeg vibes from this game! No push-back whatsoever and the amount of stupid penalties taken (I know officiating was brutal, but still) was a major part of their downfall. It felt like they were scared to skate into the open ice and opted to just "drop pass" and loop around 90% of their offence zone entrances.

Oilers are too good on transition not to respect it, and I think they learned that lesson in game 1. That first game showed Vancouver the only way they'll win consistently: try to weather the Edmonton storm and wait them out until they ease up and then strike with reckless abandon and hope to fluster the Oilers. It came close to working in game 4 and game 7, and might have worked across the board if not for Canuck injuries - but it is what it is.

There are several sensible reasons why a team might play 'better' in the final 15 minutes than in the first period, mostly having to do with RISK. The Canucks simply could not risk digging a big hole early in the game against a team like Edmonton. Your guys put in a decent effort without their top scorer or top goalie, but also this is possibly the end of the cup contention window for the Oilers. So a mix of Edmonton having experience, reasons to want it more, and better players is a lot for Canucks to make up for with systems and grit.

Pettersen was a let down, but honestly it was a team effort. Just so weird how they were so hot/cold. They have the ability to dominate, but for whatever reason would just go long periods without wanting it. Seemed like a lack of drive to me. Oilers wanted it more. Amazing year, lots of great things to pull out of that season, just need to add some scoring to the mix and they will be unstoppable.

Was pulling for the Canucks but the better team won based on just about every metric. I think after the all-out effort to grab Game 5 VAN simply ran out of gas with this version of the Canucks not having a tremendous amount of playoff experience but credit to the Canucks for taking it to 7 and once again almost providing a miracle without Boeser and Demko. EDM also adjusted and played really great D those last two games. As to their chance against DAL, of course there is a chance - this is the playoffs and anything can happen. On paper DAL has a depth edge but EDM has played excellent on both the PK and PP so special teams could definitely be a favorable check mark in EDM box. It should be a tremendous series and one that goes long.

As a lifelong Canucks fan, I had a strong fear that the Canucks would crumble from home ice 'flopsweat' syndrome. After they did nothing on the 4 min PP in the first, i sensed that was game over. Sadly, this suspicion turned out to be accurate. But overall, to make it to game 7 in the second round, essentially without the services of both Petterson and Demko, is pretty impressive. Here's hoping this is the beginning of regular post season appearances by the team. Now, aside from decisions on who to resign in the off season, the biggest mystery, the Elephant in the room : wtf is up with EP40? Confidence issues? Too skinny for the post season? He is a confounding young man. Best of luck Mr Rutherford and Mr Allvin in sorting this out.

Hey man, really nice title! You might feel it's simple and boring, but it's really helpful for us who really care and rewatch later and stuff. Great work. Love the anti-highight callouts too, like Mikheyev's stone hands and Connor Brown shooting it right at the logo. Describes a lot of beer leaguers (including myself) lool. Anyone know if Van's D-zone passive was like that in their wins? Because if so, it's prob not the reason they lost like the vid kind of insinuates. I feel like the Oilers are actually much better than the Nucks, but played down to their level. Every loss EDM had was a blown lead. My bracket is 100% so far, but with EDM having top PP/PK, I'm actually convinced they might beat Dallas. Shame Nucks could only muster 10min of high level-play w/o Boeser, it was great ending but took way to long to get. Wasn't unexpected though, an unexperienced team needs to go through a loss like that. That's why I never had them exiting Rd2.

I am a long-time Canucks' fan. Fair game assessment. I do believe the better team won as you can't expect to win games/series when you generate as few shots and converted powerplays as the Canucks. At the same time, my hope in the team has been rekindled by their never-give-up attitude/play this year and some of the up-and-coming young players. I hope that somehow we can build on this success by adding a few more contributing forwards with the heart of a lion- like JT Miller. I have trust in the management and coaching staff to make sound decisions for the team based on the limited team salary cap space available. My biggest beef is the overpaid self-proclaimed superstars, who demand big salaries and then do not largely show up in the big-time games (ie. Petterson) as that is my definition of a true superstar. I believe some of the overpaid egos are hurting the team and the league as a whole as the Playoffs certainly establish that it takes a cohesive team of warriors to go all the way to the cup. Yes, I am talking to you Toronto and Edmonton.

Canucks are back in the Playoffs, they can build on this if they make smart additions and trades. Tocchet’s style of coaching tends to burn players out over a long season leaving little left for the Playoffs. Hughes kind of disappeared offensively in this series and nobody can seem to figure out why. He wasn't getting punished like he was against Nashville. Pettersson has to be better too. During the bubble run, both those guys were absolute money.. you have to think that maybe they were hurt. With a 3rd string goalie, barely getting 20 shots per game, they had no business being in a Round 2 Game 7. Silovs is absolutely the playoff MVP for Vancouver, and he's got a bright future and is likely the defacto backup now. If they can learn to play 60 minute hockey games, they'll be deadly in years to come. So far this core has seen two 2nd round Game 7s against teams that are contenders, still 5 more Round 2 wins since 2020 than the Leafs have in over 20 years.

If the Oilers can come back from 30th in the League in November to West Coast Finals in May? I think anything is possible with team.

People forget that the Oilers were the best team in the league in every category since January 1st.

I think they were mentally exhausted from defending the 2 best players in the world. The core players who aren't leaving in FA, got valuable experience. It was a great season.

Walking in to these playoffs pretty well with no demko, pettersson pretty well absent, and no boeser for game 7. We beat the odds

As a Panthers fan, I was rooting for Carolina and Vancouver... I want for this year to be ours, and thought Carolina and Vancouver would be easier opponents than all others in the East and West.... Let's go Panthers!!! 💪

Zadorov chasing Kane into the corner when he doesn't even have the puck was extra stupid. Game 7 is not the time to settle scores. Too bad now we've got just one Canadian team left to cheer for. *My nightmare scenario a Florida / Dallas final* I'd rather have a colonoscopy.

The reason they lost was the fact they just didnt adjust to what Edmonton was doing. They got pressured then they would just get out numbered and end up in a puck battle because they arent moving their feet. That along with the fact they would just dump and change 90% of the time without first establishing offensive pressure killed all their offense for the first 2 periods if not more. They just didnt play like their season was on the line. I almost feel like they got to focused on quick shifts to save their legs for mcdavid when they needed to lay it all on the line and just get aggressive on offense. This was a game the canucks could have easily won thanks to silovs playing outstanding but they just didnt get it going when they needed to.
