    Thanks. Don’t even know that can be done wrong with valves clearance check. Only stuff mistake could take place. I faced the similar problem. On new 2020. After 6k km I found TWO valve seals on one of the exhaust valve. One of course was totally broken. And another one was damaged badly. Just small fault on the factory found accidentally with oil change. Found small spring from broken valve seal on oil magnet. Don’t know what it could lead to

    Doing it though can be easily done wrong if you aren't accustomed to that engine as you have to change valve buckets I assume that he changed the valve buckets and they was too tight possibly in fairness you would rather them tighter then loose cause you could drop a valve although that's a bad fuck up in my opinion

  • @Davidkxf

    @Davidkxf

    @@jt.961 You don't have to remove the buckets, the shims fit on top of the buckets. On the inlet side directly under the cam lobe and on the exhaust valve under the rocker arm. You don't even need to remove the camshaft or the balance shaft.

  • @jt.961

    @@Davidkxf I know that to check them but to change the shims you'd have to remove the cam otherwise you have the pressure of the cam love pushing down onto the shim... From that I assumed that they chacked it changed the buckets and then put it all back to get her didn't run it up and check again after installation this causing the issue of the rocker snapping due to being obsenely tight

    Thats bad luck. I see that there are a lot of comments that are saying that the LC4 engine is not so reliable... it depends how you maintain it though. If you follow the maintenance program of KTM 10k service intervals then yes the engine wont last much... i have the 2016 model and I do service every 3k and I now have 19k with this bike with zero problems with 1 upgrade (I changed the timing chain tensioner with a manual one ) and its chiptuned since day 1 running 75 HP

    The 2019 and later models with the balancer shaft top end does not have the rocker issues! They screwed it up. My engine blew at 1700 miles warranty voided. So I had to pay. Now at 3650 miles the cam shaft is knackered. I believe it’s oil starvation issues. KTM don’t want to know! Your KTM dealer demonstrated complete incompetence. Why would you have to pay for their mistakes? So it should’ve been free! The mobility\breakdown service is included with your warranty. They weren’t doing you any favours!

    Yeah, as expected, they screwed up the service, big time... Was the bike still under warranty when this happened? Anyway the +2 year warranty extension is pretty cheap, I'm getting it for my 701 SM just to be on the safe side. :D I can understand your attachment, these bikes are really hard to beat in the fun department! The other day, I was amazed again how good the stock tires and suspension is on a faster track.

    came across your site as I started looking at the 690 and nice to see the difference between the enduro and smc r which you have been able to give me, disappointed to hear all these issues you are having seems to be a big issue with customer support on quite a few platforms airing this , so if it does go again by the roadside what will you get is the question?

    It’s a really tough question because no other bike imo covers all my needs as well as this one. Probably would just get an exc and covert it to supermoto. For me having fun is the most important. The excs are even more fun than SMCR but lack a few other upsides.

    Would you recommend the bike ? at the moment im doing my license and for me the 690 SMCR is the only bike i really really like, there are a few bikes that look good but i honestly only want the 690. SMCR or nothing. I want to buy a 2022-2021 model but at the moment im reading a lot of motor problems ... is that true ? I mean in your case it was something different, that was "just" a failure from the mechanic

    I think the quality of KTMs has becomes much worse in the last few years. I hear different problems from different riders on all sorts of KTM bikes. The good thing is that they usually cover all costs but it is annoying. I would still recommend buying the SMCR because it is an AMAZING bike and there is nothing like it tbh.. :D hope this helps. Oh and if you don’t like it you can always sell it for almost the same price you bought it..

    Don't worry about it, i have a 2016 with almost 70.000 km, no issues at all, but i've taken good care of it and changed oil every 7-8000km which is under the milage that ktm recommends. And if you buy a 2022 you will have warranty aswell for 2 years, in some countries you can extend that too. The LC4 engines in these bikes are pretty much bulletproof if you take care of it, especially the newer ones

    Definitely an error from them. It does sound like their partially admitting it. I have a 2010 and would never let anyone else do basic maintenance for incidents like this. Often times the dealer will not admit it and they will tell you, you have a lemon bike. insane.

    Honestly I like the idea behind 690, but I hate KTM. After owning 2 unreliable Italian bikes I would not trade my Yamaha for anything other than a another Japanese bike. I have friends whose 701 Husqvarnas have blown and it's a expensive bike and even more expensive to fix, if not under warranty. I would really like that Yamaha made a same type of street superMoto using the CP2 engine (MT07, tenere). Or Suzuki updated their DRZ. Honda had the FMX but It was air-cooled... Also the 620-690 KTM lc4 engine is known for having shit ton of problems and blowing up easily, compared to other 700cc street engines.

    Pretty good summary of options. I wish the LC4 was more reliable too but for now we gotta make that choice. For me the riding experience is unmatched so I will ignore the troubles whenever I can. Oh and one last option is to covert an EXC into a supermoto. Those are very reliable but costly to maintain since they are competition bikes..
