I'm convinced Tarrare had Prader-Willi syndrome (inability to control insatiable hunger /thin lips and large down turned mouth /light colored hair), hyperthyroidism (constant sweating and inability to gain weight), and trimethylaminuria (liver unable to process certain chemicals so they're excreted in POTENT smelling sweat and urine. SEVERAL of said chemicals are found in meat, especially liver and eggs. Tarrare's favorite.) The unluckiest genetic dice roll ever.

I just looked at photos of adults children and babies with Prader Willi syndrome and most seem to be very overweight from a young age, even infancy. Tarrare on the other hand was quite thin.

I honestly feel bad for Tarrare. Of course the horrible things he did to the creatures he ate are inexcusable, I hope the baby going missing wasn’t actually his fault. But I can’t even imagine the kind of hell his body was putting him through, making him feel like he’s constantly starving and feeling like he needed to eat that much. Which then caused him to be chased away by others for something he couldn’t fully control

I simply want to say that I thoroughly enjoy your sense of humor and it's underdone delivery. It was an evening of enjoyment for me.

I recently heard of this really rare condition (can’t remember the. name) but u constantly feel hungry no matter how full u are, you’ll literally eat till u throw up then repeat the process. I think he had that along with hyperthyroidism and possibly other conditions to add to it. What’s unusual to me is how big his mouth & throat were.. Swallowing a WHOLE apple?!!? Wtf?!?! That is crazy af!!!

Also, I highly doubt Tarrare ate the child. When he ate other animals, there was evidence left behind. If he couldn’t consume the fur or bones of a cat, how would he have been able to consume a toddler without leaving evidence behind, or doing it fast enough that the child wouldn’t cry out/someone wouldn’t catch him?

My sister's husband used to work at a 'all you can eat' seafood buffet. Two guys came in and ate 300 dollars worth of product. The buffet no longer offers all you can eat.

I read about Tararre as 16 year old, and 15 years later, it _still_ makes my entire lower body just clench up. :')

These men most likely had a combination of a nutrient deficiency, hypothalamic dysfunction and Prader-Willi syndrome. Extremely rare, but possible.

@@bwdoggrooming4482 not always. It leads to obesity because of the intake of calories and a sedentary lifestyle from poor muscle tone. The "foods" these men were eating are not nutrient dense enough for that, plus they were active. The other conditions I'm assuming they had cause weight loss as well (for example hyperthyroid disease).

Prader-willi won't cause your body to morph into one giant stomach and bowel. I think it was just a one time genetic defect.

@@WobblesandBean that's why I said there are comorbidities. If the autopsy is correct, and his throat, stomach, skin and liver are enlarged, he could have a connective tissue disorder as well. It's obvious this guy didn't win the genetic lottery.

given the constant sweat and hot skin it seems he just had an incredibly high metabolic rate. Burning calories almost instantly and producing a lot of heat. Hence the hunger for fuel to keep this up.

no way it's just a "high metabolic rate" I'm pretty sure he just had extreme malabsorption, which explains why he was so hungry due to his malnutrition. in terms of volume he might have been full, but his body was still starving and trying to hang on to any possible nutrients because anything he ate would be gone out the other end very soon. hyperactive thyroids do burn extra calories but not to the extent of being able to eat that much and seeing no weight gain. A higher metabolism might make someone's bmr go from 1600 to 1800 or something. it's literally impossible to burn the amount he had on a daily basis, most professional athletes don't even burn 8-10k calories on days with heavy training sessions.

I'm in the USA but really appreciated the laugh from the "Eels up inside ya" reference. I loved "the Mighty Boosh!" Cheers

There is a kid in the US with a condition that might have been the same Tarare had. His body is not able to store fat, so his body looks like that of a kid that hasn't eaten in months, but he eats around 10 000 calories a day and still suffers from constant hunger because our bodys judge hunger based on fat storage and how full your stomach is. And if one of those is very low our bodies would usually go under a constant state of extreme hunger.

About the golden fork: Thinking from Tararre's perspective, he probably specifically remembered the golden fork because, as an object made of gold, he likely tried to retrieve it after having eaten it because of its value. Having never found the golden fork, he only assumed it was still inside him. Him remembering it so specifically was probably from a sense of regret.

He probably just didn’t realize he passed it. It was likely surrounded by other decal material which also protected his intestines from perforation. When dogs eat razor blades and the owner refuses to pay for surgery out next step is having the dog consume a LOT of bread in the hopes to encase the razor blades so they either pass or can be vomited back up without perforation.

It’s so bizarre that around the same historical timeframe, there were multiple cases of individuals with the same condition involving an insatiable need to eat anything and everything. And no relatively modern cases that truly compare. Makes you wonder what was behind it. Providing you don’t conclude that these cases were extremely exaggerated, which is very possible.

The "food" spectrum would point in Pica direction, but this condition TMK is nearly an all-female affliction, and not dependent on the bodily sensation of hunger, and instead coming from the domain of the likes of OCD (not that this makes it easy to treat), or what once was called "hysteria". Pica centers TMK majorly on the ingestion of unpalatable and indigestible materials (hair, nails, cutlery, excrement, jewelry - hence the name pica = magpie), whereas T's and D's condition targeted food with high nutritional value, which seemed to literally evaporate. If this was due to malabsorption (which IMO would likely have killed both patients in their infancy) or a high metabolic turnover due to hormonal changes around puberty (but which pathophysological correlate could be the reason for this, and which organ system is the most plausible "killer"?!? concentrations and isomers of releasing hormones from the hypothalamic/ hypophyseal complex and/ or density/ functionality of their receptors, end organs like thyreoid or adrenal glands, guts, liver, testes, defects in the temperature regulation system, amygdala are only what spontaneously crosses my mind...), or a completely different mechanism, must stay a secret until another unfortunate person and their environment is affected. If anybody has an idea what this condition could be, please enlighten me!!!
