@Brian Oconnell A lot of the "hollywood" moments in the movie actually technically are true, just exaggerated. There are some lies in the movie though like the one about the team "being the only de-segregated school in their district." There were a few different de-segregated schools in fact, but a lot of it is true. Either way, what do you expect from Disney and Hollywood?

However their combined school had an enrollment of >6000, playing against the rest of us who had enrollments of 2000 or less. They were never underdogs. I went to Hayfield Highschool in the late 70's (it's the first high school the Titans play in the movie). My family moved to south Alexandria in 74, just a few yrs after TC won state. The rivalry between TC and Hayfield was so fierce that by 1974 varsity games between the schools had been moved to Saturday afternoons as a way to curb all the fights that broke out between the students. The tipping point was a really bad riot that happened around 72-73.

@@Perejil1319 There was a violent gang war between Hayfield and TC Williams that started around 71-72 and lasted until 74. There's a pic in the Hayfield 72-73 yearbook of this one guy wearing a fez cap that says "torture TC" on it. There were a series of incidents which caused the violence to escalate to the point where some of the Hayfield students who were black belts (he was one of them) in karate organized a defense. Around 76-77 some of my older friends told me the stories. Around 72 they beat one of my older friends to within an inch of his life because he mouthed off to them. He had one two many beers that night and should have kept his mouth shut when they started harassing him. In another incident, a girl who attended Hayfield who was a umth degree black belt (her father owned a legendary Karate Dojo) kicked the ever living crap out of a couple of TC Williams guys who were harassing her and her boyfriend (I wonder how her boyfriend felt about that LOL).Another older friend of mine was there the night of the infamous street battle that took place around 1972 behind Hayfield Highschool. He said after a Fri night game, a couple of vans pulled up on Old Telegraph Rd behind Hayfield and about 20+TC Williams guys piled out. On the upper end of Telegraph there were about the same number of Hayfield guys. Both sides had baseball bats, metal pipes, chains etc. but no firearms (it was a different time back then). WITHOUT SAYING A WORD, both sides started walking towards each other. He wasn't with either group so he hid under a parked truck. He said as they got to within feet of each other, he could hear the sound of chains swinging and when both sides converged, the sickening sound of bats, chains and pipes hitting and dropping bodies all over the street as utter mayhem broke out. Within minutes the street was covered with blood and bodies laying everywhere. The police showed up as did multiple ambulances. That was the last straw with having Fri night football games between Hayfield and TC - ALL games between them were moved to Saturday afternoons. In 1974-75 I was told by my older friends that if a van ever pulls up at night and they ask what high school you're from DO NOT say Hayfield because it's TC Williams rowdies looking to roll you. By 77 that rivalry was completely dead.
