The drop in communication has been absolutely abysmal. If they aren’t in a clan, 65% of the time, they won’t talk, and a 10% chance it’s useless clutter noise or racial slurs. As a tanker, my guys and I are often going in blind because we have no idea what’s on the field, and where. It sucks

True, rarely do I get a good squad or even a commander. But scrolling through the players tonight it was a lot of brand new players, a decent amount of intermediate players around 30 to 50 rank, and not many vets. The casual C.O.D. players will leave soon and the new guys will learn. The vets aren't helping matters by being impatient and yelling at the guys learning. Not all vets do that, but I see it way more than the rare "follow me and I'll teach you."

This message has been approved by a guy who tried Hell let loose multiple times after being on Post Scriptum/Squad44 for years. Gotta say I couldn't get in to it and then saw the light in Squad44 again, this is where the future of ww2 milsims is at, not in hll unfortunately. I encounter people on the daily now sharing these resembling opinions.

This game was never as good as SQUAD in terms of communication, discipline, certain mechanics and so on...For example in order to place rally point in squad (OP in HLL) you as a squad leader need to be surrounded by 3 of your squadmates and in order to place a FOB in squad (GARRISON in HLL) you as a squad leader need to have logistic vehicle on your position, minimum of 500 construction supplies (that can only be brought in by truck or helicopter, no such thing as supply drop from sky every 20 sec or support role droping it) and before you can place the FOB you need to place down the radio and have one squadmate near you + supplying the front constantly during the match is huge thing, with construction and ammo brought by trucks or helicopters and stored inside the FOBs so players can rearm, vehicles can rearm-repair and so you can keep the momentum in building the FOBs deeper inside the territory. Meaning : game SQUAD is forcing team cohesion by its conception, its essence...and that is what HLL lacks IMO.

Every once in a while I get a game that has some people talking, but the games that don’t are substantially higher. I remember when just about every game had people talking but now if I play like 5 games maybe 2 have people talking. Even switched servers several times to see if it was just the server I was playing on, but it seems like a game wide issue.

I had one game with a squad that communicated, where the leader gave orders. We carried the team in defending and attacking, but it was not enough. Most players are useless, there are no roles or objectives played.

For me, it was the fact that people wouldn't stop complaining over the coms. I love running tank crews and I can't properly provide targets and commands to my gunner and driver. It got so bad that I just switched over to the gunner seat and gave up command to someone else. I don't like hogging the gunner seat because that's the funnest seat in a tank. But I can't drive well because of the extremely awkward controls

I wrent back to HLL after about a three months break and while seeing some of the effects you note but have also had some excellent games and by persisting in talking to people has the effect of opening people up to behaving properly

I agree with you, the drop off in mic usage has been pretty sad. Dumped a ton of hours into the game recently after a little layoff and it's one of the glaring things I noticed. Still, fun games with great communication do exist just not very frequent

I remember buying the game back in December to play with some friends and from the outset I could instantly tell by the feel of the game it catered to a more "casual" player base. From the complete lack of weapon sway, no inertia, stamina bar, and last but not least the stat screen. I remember back in my BF3 days I used to be a complete stat wh0re and I'd obsess over the tiniest minutia and HLL totally fulfills that kind of player mindset (which I totally still have btw). HLL also has a fundamental problem in it's game mechanics that stem from the other mechanics I listed earlier, the player has too much control over their character and most of the time, if skilled enough, can solo through entire enemy squads with little to no issue. The ADS speed is almost instant, theres no bullet deviation, and zero suppression. None of the mechanics that would allow a larger group of players to overmatch a lone adversary. These are issues Squad has sought to address with their Infantry Combat Overhaul update that really put a massive stop to a lot of the run and gunning you would see previously, Squad lobbies used to be way more like R6S lobbies with people Q&E lean spamming, drop shotting...you name it. HLL would benefit a lot from some sort of infantry overhaul because the infantry combat overall basically plays like a Source Engine shooter from 10 years ago (See Day of Infamy, an amazing WWII FPS based off of another shooter called Insurgency, the predecessor to Insurgency: Sandstorm). Infantry mechanics do not facilitate the need for teamwork and or communication. Im just as capable of fighting the enemy alone with my fully upgraded rifleman kit or whatever class has the best gun/scope

i agree. I've probably put in more hours in HLL the past few years than any other game in the last 15 years and it's just gone downhill lately. I almost exclusively play squad lead which is so much fun when everyone communicates and you have a good commander. lately, no one talks, no one listens, including the other squad leads and commander.

I'm the rare kind who would actually like to see both games succeed. The problem with HLL is that there's been just too many new people and a lot of the veterans got bored from lack of content. T17 hasn't done much with the game. PS is just too milsim for most people. I wish they would dial it back a little bit to make the game more accessible but I know the loyal fanbase are more into the realism. In a perfect world we would have 2 great games to play.

I'm a younger player and I thought people weren't gonna take me serious - so I chose not to use my mic. But i definitely see the problem, I'm also a new player and having a hard time learning the general game. When i load up HLL I still have lots of fun and i think the game is awesome.

I bought this game. Booted it up and jumped into the game. I had no idea what I was supposed to do, where to go, who to follow and what my role is. It's just so confusing for new players. I just gave up and haven't touched the game in 2 months. Total playtime is 59 minutes.

Switched from HLL to Post Scriptum 2 years a ago and after Offworld Industries bought it I switched to Squad last year. Anyone looking for team and squad cohesion enforcing game, the Squad is it where its at, everything else utter garbage for people looking this sort of experience.

Squad has a similar problem in every Global Escalation server. I like the equipment and factions that the mod adds, but it feels like most people want to ogle at their suppressor and run around like an idiot. Never any reviving or habs its miserable.

I have 700 hours in HLL and I almost never play it anymore. I like team based WWII shooters, so Squad 44 is always going to win out. It's all I play now. Before anyone says BUT THE SERVERS YOU PLAY ARE BAD No. I played competitive HLL a lot, on a ton of servers. Even the BEST HLL communication game falls short of the worst Squad 44 game. That being said, if you're a casual HLL player, do not come to Squad 44. We don't want you unless you're trying to get more serious.

I tried HLL ages ago, and I have a lot of experience with similar shooters, and even then I could not get into HLL. The number one reason? The community is shit, and I'm not talking about the new players. Old players are extremely unfriendly, they refuse to teach anything, if you make one mistake they just try to fuck with you. I watched the online guides to learn the game cuz no one actually would teach. I'd try to joke around, learn from other players, nothing. Thats why new players dont know shit, because old players REFUSE to teach them

Same here. Bought the game at 40 dollars full price like an idiot and came in thinking it'd be like a more modernized version of Forgotten Hope 2 with smoother gameplay and significantly better graphics. Ended up going right back to Forgotten Hope 2 afterwards due to noticing how totally fucking braindead most of the people who played were. Barely ANY communication with anyone on the team causing constant avoidable losses game-wise and round-wise, squads being locked left-and-right only leaving ones with people who had literally no idea what they were doing and had been playing for only half an hour, really fucking salty vets who would scorn and try to kick you out if you dared fuck up on their watch - Genuinely unpleasant to the point where I literally just gave up and stopped playing after only 7 hours in-game, and this was even before the Team17 acquisition when the game was still apparently pretty good! This is not to even mention some of the personal qualms I've had with the general feeling of the game, from really mediocre gun sounds, somewhat goofy animations (the "sprint" that feels like it barely makes your character go into a light jog while still apparently making him run at full-pelt?), and the questionably long-winded leveling system that takes literally hundreds of hours to complete if you're not grinding it, but I won't go on considering some seem to not give much bother to that stuff. Hopefully it will at some point get to a stage where people will actually know what they're doing and can communicate effectively with eachother, but I'm not holding my breath considering the somewhat rocky road that Team17 has set the game on since its acquisition, and how fucking long that prospect is probably going to take due to how rather casual-oriented and accessible the game is (not a bad thing i suppose but we see right here how far that's gotten the game).

I used to love this game, but now not so much. My favorite thing was running the sniper role with another person and doing recon for tanks and stuff by marking things on the map. Super satisfying talking with like a tank crew and spotting enemy vehicles for them and seeing them roll up and blow it up knowing I helped. It was awesome, but now I usually see people locking one mans in the sniper role and trying to be like a lone wolf idiot not doing any recon or anything. It’s sad.
