What Happened To Grime Music? | Is UK Drill on Top?

Ойын-сауық

Yizzy ft JME Grime Reaction. This is the type of grime music I was first introduced to. Iv'e seen many comments sayings Grime is dead. If it is, whats the cause? What happened with jdzmedia? Iv'e been out of the loop for a while. But looking upfront, it seems like drill really took over. Fill me in pleae. Thanks for watching.

I listened to grime because it got me gassed. I gradually made the switch to drill after 67-lets lurk came out simply because drill got me more gassed than grime but i can still appreciate and will always have love for grime music

The UK drill scene has been blowing up recently because of humanities natural obsession with death and 'gang culture'. Yes some artists are sick and can write/flow well but you gotta admit that drill in general, US or UK is popularised because of the violent content and artists are idolised by how G they are or how many crimes they are affiliated with. Like I say, I'm not saying this is the WHOLE reason but it definitely plays a big part

Because the younger generation are not fully knowledgable about GRIME, and its wide spectrum, they often label Neo GRIME songs as Drill. For example "M1llionz - B1llionz" and "Ruff Sqwad ft Wiley - Together" are sonically the same genre, but because this newer generation are unaware of the different types of GRIME they will call "M1llionz - B1llionz" a Drill song as it doesn't sound like Skepta - Shutdown... the only GRIME song they recognise. It's very sad... because GRIME is a British culture that goes beyond a beat, one that should be admired with pride.

i dont think JME ever left tbh he just releases whenever. The whole chorus and videos are an homage to Grime, pretty much all the videos are references. Yizzy doesnt have the best reputation in the scene tbh as well so was surprised to see the reaction. Appreciate it regardless always good to see you

The way you reacted is what grime still does to me these days. Grime isn't dead. Jme has a album called Grime MC that has some amazing tunes on it like the song "this one" or "pricks" try "P Money x Silencer ft. Chip, D Double E, Dizzee Rascal - Stuttering" absolute grime banger released in october this year. Chip's Stormzy disses have been Bangers also. A Scottish Grime mc Shogun's "[Far North Freestyle] SERIES 2: EPISODE 5" or his "ONE TAKE #FNF" are fire Loads more also too many to mention.

But Grime seems to have taken a bit of a nosedive due to the popularity of drill and how pop smoke took the sound over to the states which has gave artists like Central Cee Fredo Headie One Abra Cadabra and Tion Wayne much more of a platform to become much more mainstream. Drill is the sound right now and especially when artists like Skepta, Stormzy and Dave have adopted the drill sound recently it’s promoted it even more

@@TooBluntTV well, pop smoke was gaining mainstream attention before he died but ultimately his death was the catalyst in what made him as popular and renowned as he is today and his posthumous album shoot for the stars aim for the moon being very well critically acclaimed helped further the attention of this “new” drill sound (to the rest of the world) so Uk drill has thrived since because people are aware of that sound now and enjoy it and Uk hip hop has always struggled to make it overseas as Us hip hop fans are typically very stubborn. Songs like Body (which has a combined 136 million views on KZread), Keisha Becky and I dunno by tion Wayne (probably the hottest artist out right now of the Uk), On Deck by Abra Cadabra, Only You Freestyle by Headie One (which had drake on it doing a Uk accent) Loading and Obsessed with you by Central Cee and so many others have millions of plays on KZread and I think Tiktok being such a factor for trendy music right now it’s been promoted even more. This is easily the most mainstream and commercial Uk rap has ever been and Grime started as an evolution of garage as particularly an underground genre and now as the Uk drill sound has become mainstream because of Pop it’s an accessible and easy sound for Uk artists to do regardless of whether they were traditionally doing grime. People like Skepta, Dave, Stormzy traditionally “grime” artists are all over this sound now with Skepta being featured on a remix by “Welcome to the party” by pop smoke and on Kid Cudi's album “show out” which also had a pop smoke feature and arguably Daves biggest song yet is Clash with Stormzy which is on a drill beat. So although traditionalists might disagree UK rap is in a really healthy place now. I used to watch you in like 2015 as a twelve-year-old and we are long removed from the Chip and Buzgzy Malone beefs and the Skepta vs Devilman rap battles. This is just what Uk hip hop is now

forget Yizzy bro, his whole image is a big facade created by his management, he's no where near the levels of the best MCs when you listen to him enough and his songs all have the same thing. he does nothing for the grime scene. if i were you id just stick to listening to the OGs cos the new gen of grime MCs are bang average compared to the originals, although theres a couple MCs that are aight i guess
