    Best estimate of the asteroid’s weight is 34 billion tons, not “trillions”. Big difference. Asteroid was probably 7 kilometers in diameter, to produce the size of the crater that exists.

    @jakubw.2779

    2 жыл бұрын

    Nah, not really. Definitely not from chixhulub impact. The object which would create Such a humongous crater would have to be at least 10-20 bigger than the chixhulub asteroid. If something THIS big would hit Earth in a reasonable period of time (where the crater wouldn't be completely covered by tectonic activity) i doubt there would be life on Earth today. That thing would literally pierce through the Earth's crust and would destabilize entire planet (one of the theories says that's exactly how Mars lost 20% of its mass and "died" of course the object that killed Mars was way bigger, but still). Energy released by this impact would have reshaped almost entire landscape and ejecta thrown away would change the Earth into unhabitable barren desert. Life would probably eventually find a way but definitely not in the shape we know and definitely thousands if not millions of years later.

    What caused it to be so precise with its aim and so fast to be able to travel the world several times before you even make a big meal. Just curious.

    It wasnt precise at all. It's just gravity stuff that caused the collision And speed? Space doesn't have any air resistance, so anything in motion in space just gains velocity

    @@sanjaygogoi958 On Mars there is 0.1 oxygen meaning we won't survive for 2 mins because there is a thin layer of atmosphere so oxygen can easily escape into space. But Mars is the most habitable planet in our solar system except for Earth. Mars used to be like Earth until something happened which made it turned out this way. Scientists now are trying to discover what happened by using the rover perseverance.
