@Hank Sheffer i knew there was something else hiding! Thank you for you're service. Navy doesn't run without Swabbies. Maybe we can get a Hanks navy tales special episode? That would be delightful! You must have many to tell? Rich history the name USS Chicago in the navy steeped in history hard earned by men of the like we don't see anymore.

Cause of death= head fell off night while studying the stars. Then he wondered aimlessly around the canyons looking for his head till he finally lay down and gave up the ghost. Now he forever wanders the universe forever looking for his head, that when found will probably fit quite nicely on Orion shoulder, and when Orion becomes complete it will be time for TRICK or Treat:)

The most common translation from Spanish is stream. For example, in Northern NM near Taos there is a town called Arroyo Seco or dry stream. However, as the other posters have noted, it usually refers to a wash or similar feature. Vaya con Dios amigo.

Missing skulls or skulls found a long ways from the rest of a skeleton, seem to be a recurring element in stories about the Superstition Mountains. I think that the people who make these videos should do some research and explain to us whether, in general, outside of the Superstition Mountains, it is unusual, or not so unusual, to find skeletons without skulls, several years after the death. Not knowing anything about the subject myself, I would guess that it is unusual.

@Hank Sheffer I remember hearing once that you can tell what ripped a corpse apart by which pieces got dragged off. A skull is a relatively large critter's work. But but when corpses get dismembered by a group and dispersed? Well any predator/scavenger who can drag off a leg or arm...

This reminded me of this: "When Francisco Vasquez de Coronado reached this area in 1540 seeking the legendary “Seven Golden Cities of Cibola," the local Indians told him that the mountain held much gold, although they refused to help the Spaniard explore it. They feared the “Thunder God”, who was said to dwell there and who would destroy them if they dared to trespass upon his sacred ground. When the Spaniards tried to explore the mountain on their own, they discovered that men began to vanish mysteriously. It was said that if one of them strayed more than a few feet from his companions, he was never seen alive again. The bodies of the men who were found were mutilated and with their heads cut off. The terrified survivors refused to return to the mountain and so Coronado dubbed the collection of peaks, Monte Superstition, which explains the origin of the infamous name."
