2022/23 was the year of many seasons, thanks in large part to the World Cup in November and December. So much has happened, it is easy to forget.
A Premier League that looked like it was heading to North London, a Bundesliga that looked like it wasn’t heading to Bavaria, and a Serie A that finally made its way to the south.
But that is not all. Seb Stafford-Bloor recounts the biggest events of the last 11 months. Illustrated by Marco Bevilacqua.

The story of the season is Luton Town gaining promotion to the EPL after such a rollercoaster ride where they had dropped out of the football league and then climbed up all the leagues to make it to the top flight of course Luton were actually one of original 22 teams that were involved in the breakaway from the football league to set up the EPL but they were relegated in 1992 a season before the EPL started so they never actually got to play in it until the end of this season so its been a real rollercoaster for them the past 30 or so years and you could make a film about it

It must feel wild to know that, 30 years later, there's still founding members of the Premier League who have yet to play in it
@MartinParnham

The two teams that went down with Luton in 1992 were Notts County and West Ham (who finished bottom). Notts have just got promotion back to the fourth tier after being in non-league (and as a result have regained their status as the oldest Football League club) and West Ham have just won a European trophy. Shows you how fortunes can contrast. It was a good season for all 3. I would guess that Notts County were involved in that breakaway too?

2022-23 season is an inflection point in football history. Excited to see what lies ahead.
This season will be known as one of the most bonkers Premier League seasons ever, even if City won predictably. Forest and Chelsea's transfer market lunacy, Leicester going down, Spurs, Chelsea, Leeds and Southampton all sacking two managers. Newcastle putting up 5 in 20 minutes against Spurs. Haaland breaking football, Arsenal breaking the hearts of all their fans. West Ham somehow winning a European trophy while fighting relegation most of the year. Fulham challenging for Europe. Aston Villa, Newcastle and Brighton all finishing in the European places. Everything Nathan Jones said was comedy gold even if Southampton stunk

this season was genuinely unique and long, it had so many memories and stories, ronaldo and messi depart europe, haaland machinery, messi world cup, morocco underdog story, same with union berlin and newcastle, none of my favourite teams actually won anything (except maybe liverpool's community shield, if you count that) but i enjoyed every bit of this yet another season of football

Also with Bale, he had his late stoppage time of extra time game-tying goal in the best MLS Cup Final of all time, where LAFC beat Philadelphia on penalties after a 3-3 draw
