What Golf Has Taught Me: Gary Player
As we turn the page from the #The150thOpen and look ahead to the next 150 years of the game, Gary Player took some time to reflect on what the sport has meant to him and what he believes makes golf so especially tough.

You have touched our hearts every time we hear your messages, and appreciate you as a Goodwill ambassador. God Bless you sir.
Gary, you're so incredibly talented, intelligent and interesting. More importantly, inspirational. Thank you.
Nothng to add, thank you, Sir!
Gary I honestly believe you would have surpassed Jack's record of Majors if you were born in America, you had much more to deal with, travel, adversity etc and yet you still were able to win 9 Majors! What an incredible achievement.
The world renowned psychiatrist, Dr. M. Scott Peck, was an elite amateur tennis player but as he aged over-use injuries caught up with him. Doctor's told him to stop and that golf would be a helpful sport for his injury problems. He took up the game. So enamored with it that he wrote a book "Golf and the Spirit" which I read. His "framing" words in the first pages were that golf was unlike other sports, that we can all agree are metaphors for life: preparation, setting goals, overcoming setbacks, etc. etc. He said golf is different: "Golf is not a metaphor for life. Gold IS life." And he explained why in that book. An interesting perspective from a man that many, to this day, refer to as "The conscience of humanity." Interesting perspective from a man trained in the psychology of humanity and then reflecting on his humanity and his psychology/emotions as he learned the game. My 1970's college golf coach was not a big man - about 5' 9" but he was a "Little All-American" at line-backer in college; he was a pilot; he was a nationally ranked Golden-gloves boxer. A good man and NOT one to mess with. He also played golf, became a scratch player and also designed a few courses several of which I played and liked very much. I felt his "tenacious spirit" in the design of the most recent I played last year. He thought that golf was THE TOUGHEST sport of all that he had played.
Gary the Great.
"If" governs life in general.
I wish this single 73 year old man could start playing golf again but this couch potato may hurt myself . It would be nice to meet you, but I know that will never happen. Your the best One of the top 5 golfers of All-Time!!

Change your life! Go to the gym! Start slowly walking more and playing more golf. You could still meet Gary Player if you wanted! You don't have to believe these things you tell yourself. You could still have another 27 years of amazing life left! Live it!! The more you move around the better you will feel!

@@qbb01 Thanks for the pep talk, I have Arthritis in both knees and my neck. I do try to take a 30 minute walk everyday weather permitting. I spend most of my days recording and editing all of the birds and squirrels that visit my bird feeders and make music videos and put them on YT

@@gregoryeditor6500 I'm sorry to hear that! At least you're making the most of what you can.. read up on fasting as it can have profound impacts on arthritis pain at all ages. Things like fish oil help too! Both are very anti-inflammatory.
