Ford says you should use 91 premium as a minimum by the way for the 2.0 eco boost. Not 87. Actually they say it’s recommended to use 95 octane lol. Info taken from fords official specsheet.

As someone who has lived in both Colorado and Wyoming, when you come from a lower elevation state with an older car (not computer controlled) engine knock was a big issue. We used to adjust the timing a little bit to help it out but more importantly we would go with higher octane gas because that was about the only way to control knock. Even then, if you drove up to the mountains or if you floored it to pass someone, engines would knock even with higher octane gas. For people who complain about computers controlling our engines and how we can't fix them ourselves, if you are an old goat like me that drove carbureted non-computerized vehicles in a high elevation state, computers are a miracle. As an added bonus, it is a fantastic thing that we can buy a scanner for under a hundred bucks, plug it into a port and get detailed info about any problems your car is having.

Enjoyed the video. As a maverick owner with 4,800 miles on it, I’d like to see a video about changing brakes. I know you’re not there yet but when you do (and if you do it yourself) a video would be great. I’ve the the hybrid too!

If the maverick is anything like my wife’s Prius. At 250,000 miles the orriginal brakes will only be 50% worn down. Brakes should Pat longer than the engine.

Hey stud. Appreciate your videos on this truck. I have one just like yours only an area 51. Question? What did you learn about your CV joint boot that was leaking oil? Have a great trip and keep me posted when you get a chance.

I did try 91 for fun & didn't notice a difference. Yeah the hybrid doesn't have the hardware to take advantage of the higher octane. However, would be cool to see mpg on gas without ethanol vs with standard ethanol. Great vid again!

You should definitely see better mpg if you can buy non-ethanol gas. I'd think it would be good for a couple of mpg or so.

I will probably run 89 in my hybrid Mav. I currently run 89 in my suv because anything lower and it will ping when it's hot out.

Love the info! Do you have a link to what was used for the DIY intake? Looks clean

Intake was a 3inch 90 degree PVC from home depot and the air filter was a universal cone bought at autozone

is it worth installing a cold air intake on the hybrid? and if so is there a increase of mpg

Not so much an increase in MPG but definitely an increase in intake noise
