Solution: In the future we are hoping to have 3D printing advanced enough to make food, which means a lot more choices. Probably not much flavor though, so pack some spices and sauces.

Vegan food all the way. If things like hemp are grown then every part of the plant can be used. It has high protein and fibre. You can make fabric and rope etc from it and also medicine. Things like mushrooms would be good too as they can obviously be eaten but also you can make mushroom leather which requires non of the harsh chemicals or animal suffering associated with animal leathers.

i can't help but feel that in 10 years or so there will be a story about how everyone died (on mars or on the way to) This is pioneering and one thing that history kinda swept under the rug is how often pioneers died horrible horrible deaths.

ศรีราชา! In Sriracha. People put the sauce in every meal. Being dip for fry, as stir fry mixture, even noodle soup or spicy salad is included!

I remember something about using a liquid lining to protect a ship from radiation, so in theory, Soylent could pull double duty as sustenance and shielding.

I think making a farm on the space ship would be ore efficient. There are hydroponic systems that can grow crops really fast and insects are a cheap and efficient form of protein that can easily be produced.

On the ISS right now there is a life support system that constantly recycles itself. (Things like water, urine, and sweat are reused for drinking water and oxygen) Mars One will be using a similar life support system on it's ship, the habitats on Mars however, rely on mostly Martian ice.

Depends on the food, things float and expire extremely fast. So it has to be long lasting and also not too crumbly etc. (Foods that last long and are crumbly could only be eaten once they land on Mars because they will have gravity)
