Its interesting how having proper funds and time to care about your daily habits can cause you to deviate so much from what is so culturally American. American habits are the habits of people with low funds and lacking free time, but with an abundance of materials. Naturally, the people will gravitate to the cheapest and quickest options available. Being given the blessing to deviate from that can make you seem almost alien to the average viewer.

Uh, MSG is actually pretty bad for you. Well, it's OK in very small amounts but.. That amount is smaller than what most people think. I used to eat a chef Salad from a place that was absolutely (strangely) delicious... It was ice berg lettuce and cheap dressing! But I and my co-workers couldn't get enough of it. After awhile I realized that I was getting headaches after eating it. Then I realized that even the lettuce in the salad tasted delicious without any dressing.... Things clicked and I realized that they were washing the lettuce in water absolutely FULL of MSG. Headaches from MSG are very common.

For a while gluten free was a health craze even when people didn’t have medical conditions where they needed to be gluten free for. Here in Canada, ketchup flavour Doritos are mind boggling. They're like this tomato-ey umami experience with a little zing and some sweetness. Instead of using a cheese/dairy seasoning base, they use nutritional yeast and tomato powder, along with MSG and the usual list of unpronounceables. I remember them growing up, but they got discontinued at some point. A few years ago, Frito-Lay brought them back as a limited time "Throwback" and have been doing so every summer. My mouth is watering just describing them, and I haven't had any in months.

It's embedded advertising. He likely has a Doritos "brand ambassadorship" -- which does not legally have to be disclosed. They pay you monthly and all you have to do is make sure their product shows up in the background somewhere, or that you mention how you use it regularly... He says his assistant is the one "keeping it stocked" -- but I guarantee you Doritos has a guy who comes in every week and stocks it for them.. I've seen on other mechanical 'garage channels where they work on cars, they have a fridge that is stocked every week with mt dew. And they are always joking about how it is always full; (because that gives them a reason to talk about it)-- but a few times, they showed the guy restocking it on camera; It's literally just a convivence store guy who goes around stocking stores, and he stops by your place on a regular schedule, just like a store. This is marketing 101; It's worth for these companies to give you a free supply of their stuff, because every time it pops up in your videos, it's like a free ad for them, and the viewers don't even realize that it has purposely been placed there. But I never imagined that he would make a video about it like this. It's a little too on the nose and he should be disclosing that it's an ad-- but I bet he won't, because it's a "brand ambassadorship like I said. smh.

We used to have Doritos here in Indonesia. But last year, the company that brought all of the Frito-Lay brands such as Lays and Doritos, Indofood , decided to stop using Lays and Doritos brandings because the usage of their license had expired. and they created a new name for those crisps. Now, Lays is called Chitato Lite and Doritos is called Maxicorn. But they're all pretty much the same. Thanks, dear MSG

Johnny, I don't know if you tried them in Tijuana, but if you love Doritos, you should try "Dorilocos". They are usually sold as street food here in Mexico, and are made by opening a Doritos bag and stacking it as much as possible with peanuts, grated carrots, grated jicama, cucumber, hot sauce and lemon. You will still enjoy Doritos but all the vegetables add a great flavor and gets you into eating healthy food to somehow "neutralize" all the junk you are eating in the Doritos.

In Switzerland we have a popular seasoning called "Aromat" which is pretty much just concentrated Monosodium Glutomate. Some people don't like cooking with it, but that's usually just because aromat makes it a bit too easy, and it can overpower more subtle tastes, but hell if it makes a plain potato taste really good ill use it, and it sure does.

At 14:50 Johnny says that, "Some brilliant corporation invented a substance that tricks my brain." But at 8:21 he had already explained to us that it was Japanese chemist Kikunae Ikeda who figured out how to distill pure glutamtate into MSG. At 15:22 he bemoans how, "Corporate America dupes me by hijacking my physiology." Yet at 14:22 he was talks about Ikeda's work (intended for the exact same purpose) was intended to "allow these farmers to elevate their meals." It's fascinating to observe the constant, mindless demonizaton of "corporations" in contemporary American content. Corporations bad, people good. When Ikeda creates MSG to market to poor Japanese farmers, he's just an angel try to "elevate their meals." How wonderful! When it's corporation making your Doritos taste good, they're "hijacking your physiology." It's almost like he doesn't realize that corporations are groups of....... people? Working together?

Ugh, I actually just went and bought some Dorritos for the first time in YEARS because of this video. Now I remember why I stopped eating them... They taste horrible. Sun Chips are so much better tasting. MSG is in soooo much stuff. I used to work in an office building with a small restaurant on the main floor. All my coworkers raved about their chief salad. It was simple, cheap iceberg lettuce etc. I tried it one day, and it was AMAZING. I started getting it regularly. Then I realized that I was getting headaches a few hours after EVERY time I had it. Then I really started paying attention to the flavor of the salad without any dressing. It was strangely salty and umami. The light flipped on and I realized that they were washing the lettuce in water full of MSG. I never ate that salad again.. Told all my coworkers about the headaches and all of them realized that the same thing happened to them. .... It was apparently a ton of MSG. I'm not joking when I said that the lettuce was "salty".. But it was different then table salt of course. MSG Is great in small doses... But a lot places that use it go way over board like that place.

@@crybllrd I think you've been eating Doritos with chop sticks too long. The BEST part of eating Doritos is getting to lick your fingers at the end. All that concentrated cheese powder in it's purest form.

This feels like the most elaborate, thoroughly-thought out ad for Doritos, and I'm all here for it. 🤣

Thanks for the info and the laugh - I haven't had any kind of bagged chips in over a decade, but I remember sharing Johnny's adoration of doritos for breakfast - so much so that I have to make a point of never buying them because opening a bag = eating the bag = feeling awful but wanting more lol. It truly is a perfect example of how brilliant food science is at pushing our buttons.

@@Tpoleful you're so right about that - I honestly feel that some processed foods and fast foods have the potential to be somewhat addictive to at least some of us. I know I have to stay away from that stuff almost completely because of it.

I think you should try a mexican dish called Chilaquiles. They dont have to be super spicy and they are basically the original doritos (spicy sauce and deep fried tortilla). With some protein like chicken or a beef stake on top. Natural MSG.

Was literally eating Doritos when I came across this one! Guacamole and Salsa ones. In Australia we don't get the delicious MSG in anything thats made and sold here :( There is imported stuff that you can find it in, but its a very small list.

It's 8am and Johnny has no idea what video he will post next. Beads of sweat begin to appear under his hipster beanie. He sighs deeply as he tears open his morning bag of doritos... 'What could the next video be?' he wonders, lost in a hazy of indecision and angst... then, as he reaches his bamboo chopsticks into the chip bag, a ray of sunlight from his window hits the orange triangle... a message from the heavens. Suddenly, Johnny knows exactly what to do. He texts his team: "This will be the biggest story we've ever told." Then, he blows on the dorito chip, sending orange dust everywhere... and when the dust clears, Johnny is gone.
