    I fish there for fun and yes, small catfish and carp are the primary species. But be VERY cautious because there are releases from Lake Las Vegas that totally change the velocity of the water and the height. I watched hikers below the weir get stranded until the water lowered. It took about a half hour!

    Where specifically did you go in lava butte? How far is the hike? The first part where you caught the green sunfish, if it easier to get to?

  • @FinallyFishing

    @FinallyFishing

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi Renee! The spot with the green sunfish is closer to the parking but has a pretty steep hill to get down and back up again. It was easier to take the closed access road (gradual slope). That's about a 3/4 mile hike. Where the road met the creek, that's the spot we fished.

    Nice video! Las Vegas Wash is actually diverted into two large pipes and flows under Lake Las Vegas and eventually flows into Lake Mead. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Las_Vegas_Wash) The water (all 3 billion gallons!) in Lake Las Vegas was/is pumped in from Lake Mead! In the 1980's there were fewer environmental regulations.

  • @FinallyFishing

    Thanks for the info Outdoor Focus. I thought the waters from the the wetlands drained into Lake Las Vegas first. Makes sense that the Duck Water area is of limits to fishing then.

    @@FinallyFishing Yup, even though I think it is awesome how the city treats Las Vegas waste water and releases into the Vegas wash (which also "cleans" the water more), I bet the developers thought it would be hard to sell expensive houses around Lake Las Vegas if the water came from run-off and sewage treatment plants :)

    I am sorry, but I'm about to rain on your parade. Due to large amounts of people going fishing, almost all waters are closed. Technically the Arizona part of Lake Mead Rec Area is still open, but will probably soon close if not already. Places like Beatty, Pahranagat and Big Bend might still be open, but I strongly advise not to travel as I think the next step would be roadblocks in and out of towns and cities. I don't have the answer in this difficult situation, maybe get a fishing game on your phone? Stay safe and wait for 'better' times.

  • @FinallyFishing

    @FinallyFishing

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi No No, and thanks for commenting. I would however, like to differ from your assessment. Firstly common bream are mostly caught in Europe, with no known specimens in Lake Mead. Common bream tend to be a bit more bulky in body build. Common bream also takes bait like worms and corn, and the school of these fish I saw, had no interest in those baits. So No, I believe these to be big gizzard shad. They can reach sizes up to 18 inches.
