No. Rolex lives from artificial scarcity. That's their marketing schtick.

It was a takeover to protect their brand. Bucherer was already for sale, Rolex didn't want them to be owned by a wrong owner (in Rolex point of view).

Hey Watches Journey, yes I’ve heard this from Oisin and a few others as well. And I agree that was part of their decision making … but I don’t see how that was the primary concern. Rolex has an strong control over their entire AD network. They can get them to do anything they want … and if they resist, Rolex just pulls their AD status. So, any purchaser of Bucherer would be under the thumb of Rolex. I still believe the primary reason for the buyout was to instantly create a “boutique network” and enter the used watch market.

Hi@@DougsPerspective I always appreciate your answers and thoughts. I believe there are many aspects why Rolex bought them including side effects/benefits like you mentioned. But would Rolex have bought Bucherer if they were not publicly for sale (and not have the risk of a new owner they don't like), as a (hostile) takeover to enter the retail market?

WOS deserve to lose their AD status and I hope this happens.

Hi David, great question! Unfortunately, I believe those who established relationships with the “other” ADs in large markets competing against Bucherer will be hurt by losing all that goodwill they established with their original ADs.

Hey Doug how long did you wait for the Starbucks and what models did you purchase before you requested that one?
