I had a similar conversation with a friend about this a couple of months ago. I think you nailed it. I also think that the loss of her old songwriting partners like her ex and Space Cowboy, ect didn't help. When she has to write the songs herself she just re-writes the songs she liked as a kid. On her own she just seems like someone who watched The Blonde Ambition Tour VHS way too many times in her life.

yeah, she has the vocal talent but needs to have great producers behind her to come up with the songs and melodies. the production on the fame monster is brilliant, those are some tasty synth jams with a powerhouse vocalist on top of them.. after that, the music got watered down and i lost interest

I think what happened was a combination of things. More competition propped up in the pop music landscape, Gaga herself wasn't really as interested in being a mainstream success anymore, and she shifted her focus more to her acting career. Nice job with the video as always.

I'm a Gaga fan and I don't mean this in any bad way, but you're absolutely correct! I also think that all of her early iconic ideas, concepts and passion came because she had a huge desire to be famous, so much so that she dedicated her first two albums to the Fame. She had to really fight in the beginning, great ideas are born out of necessity & stress. Now she's surrounded by a "team" of ass kissers, I cringed so much when I watched her Netflix documentary and every min someone from her team kept on telling her how gorgeous and amazing she is. Not to mention that she said herself that her producers & record label told her in what direction to go music wise for her first three albums. Chromatica might have charted, but it is by far my least liked Gaga album, the instrumentals are so basic, each song sounds like a remix. No catchy melodies or unique synths (remember how unique her synths were in Just Dance, Poker Face, Born This Way, Mosnter, etc.?).

The truth is.. her early success had a lot less to do with her own originality than people would like to believe, and more to do with the people who were behind her who are no longer there! Now she's just one part of an incomplete puzzle 🧩, she knows it, and that will likely never change until she finds people to back her, and guide her in an even better direction..!

For me its like- does she actually love avant garde high fashion? does she still have interesting photographers she likes? doesnt she have an ear for good music? doesnt she have the talent to sit beside a producer and play an active role in crafting a new and interesting sound thats still Gaga? Hell, she could learn to produce entirely herself if she gave it the time and energy. My theory is a spiritual affliction. Everytime I see her she seems tired, frayed, insecure. I think she feels like she has to do this stuff to stay relevant and be a good person. I think the asskissers is a great point also. I love her to death and fame monster is on my walls and in ears to this day, what she did from Fame to Artpop is just legendary and fk all of the "madonna clone" shi I honestly dont understand how people still run with that when she did WAY MORE outside of being inspired by Madonna among many others. Ysan Roche is an accomplished fashion model and business owner who wanted to change the industry by creating a brand and being completely independent from the vampiric music industry. Gaga is a product, completely owned and tied to a 3/60 deal which means the companies get half of every movie or fashion line she makes. It was not that bad, her vocals were on point even though it wasn’t her style. At least she knew how to properly sing the genre.

The last time I saw her was with Metallica at the grammys. I thought she was on fire there. Her vocals fit really good with rock music.

She’s still relevant, but music is kind of a dying art. She stopped putting out eccentric art after being so harshly critiqued in 2013. Excited for her in Joker 2 and her future in acting

I think about Gaga every second of every day.

She skyrocketed into idolization within the first 2 years of her career. There were so many things changing in music, fashion, internet, technology, etc. so this combination of factors helped propel her to stardom, but also backfire when trends changed quicker. I remember many people didn't take her seriously, calling her a gimmick, etc. so I'm sure it got to her to _not_ be taken seriously once she was already everywhere.

She's evolved to an Award Winning Actress though, she just super talented i think that she just cant stick to just making music.

I am not a pop music expert, but it seems to me that as a vocalist and interpreter of the Great American Songbook, Lady Gaga is extraordinary. Let others compose; she will go down as one of the finest performers of her era.

am I crazy or what bc I really dont hear any similarities between Express Yourself and BTW... and also wasnt EY a ripoff? also Lady Gaga is still huge, she still garners more monthly listeners on spotify like for example Beyonce who's touring right now. her album Chromatica didn't sell as well since it was released during the pandemic and she closed her official store and focused on fundraising for COVID relief, but it has sold more than her 2016 album so... anyways globally, Lady Gaga is still huge, specially here in asia. i just dont know whats the issue with american ppl's obsession with racist artists right now lol. I think she just needs a better management... like didn't her song Bloody Mary from 2011 chart this year? Idk why they didn't push it as a single. she was always so strong... she said being who she truly was, was all that it's about instead of being a celebrity. apparantly she lied everything she said. she literally said she would stay the way she was untill she would die. she literally said she didn't care about the money and fame, but to care about her true fans.

I believe that Chromatica is one of her best projects, but its aesthetics are derivative of the hyperpop style that's in vogue.

I think its normal for her popularity to decrease. Britney, Christina, Katy and Gaga have had their ups and downs. Eventually they get tired/bored of doing music when they reach HUGE success. Which leads to putting music aside. It sucks for the fans, but I hope the the four of them are inspired to create new music 🎶 Gaga and all of them have put their stamps in Pop music, and Pop culture ❤

I think most pop stars don't really have enough about them to genuinely reinvent themselves more than a couple of times, without it coming across as inauthentic and turning the public off. Katy Perry took over from Gaga as being the pop girl of the moment, but after two album cycles, her success also began to dwindle. I also think that with Gaga, she tried to ride two horses of being a 'credible' singer-songwriter, as well as striving for pop icon status and somehow came up short on both. Her biggest hits like Poker Face and Bad Romance aren't anything particularly innovative. That sound has been around in Europe since the 90s and is perceived as being disposable pop, and certainly not the kind of music that's associated with a serious artist. As for being an icon, that's something the general public bestows on a celebrity IF they are considered worthy. The record company obviously spent a lot of money on Gaga in the beginning so she had a huge amount of hype. But after the initial burst of coverage, there just wasn't a huge amount of interest in her as a person outside of her fan-base. To most people, Gaga is a pop singer from the early 2010s, which is very different to being a pop culture icon.

She literally won an oscar in 2018, and had a number 1 hit in 2020

for a star is born you mean ? well that movie was extremely bad. her character handled being freinds with a famous singer unnaturally well... many scenes were extremely weak and especially the first time she went on stage singing Shallow with Bradley, they had not rehersed the song ONCE in the story. it was literally impossible for them to perform this song together but for some reason they knew exactly what to do, lol.

Gaga had a #1 (Shallow) hit in 2018, and another #1 hit in 2020 (Rain On Me). She also had a big viral hit in 2022 (Bloody Mary). And as much as so-called fans hate on these songs, both Million Reasons and Stupid Love were top 5 hits. I think the narrative of her fading is overblown. She has simply switched most of her focus away from music onto other endeavors like jazz, movies, and make-up. You don't have to like it but she isn't your monkey that has to cater to your entertainment for the rest of her life.

I feel like she's a victim of the same thing that befalls many artists/bands that suddenly blow up. Their first two, maybe three albums are seen as the most amazing thing out at the moment. Then suddenly everyone turns on them or just gets bored. Like you said, sometimes they try to reinvent themselves afterward and it usually just... doesn't work out. Sure, there will always be the diehard fans left behind, but the diehard fans aren't how you get or keep your huge success from before. I think humanity as a whole just has a very short attention span and constantly wants the new exciting thing rather than sitting around to wait for new music from someone they claim they love. ...meanwhile i just keep listening to the same shit I've been listening to since middle and high school. Lol oops.

@@DancingwithGhosts Kylie Minogue did have three Top 40 hits on the "Billboard" Hot 100 chart in the late 1980s. The biggest one by far was a cover of the 1960s Little Eva song "The Loco-Motion." The version of "The Loco-Motion" that Kylie put on the Hot 100 made it all the way to #3.

It´s time to Gaga go pop weird and alternative again and make excellent bangers with purpose! I´m tired of the GAGa "actress" and the "try hard" to be recognized as a serious artist. Ok, Born This Way was definitely a successful album, with very few bad songs on the album. I don't know how old you are to call things that aren't for you or that you don't get "cringe" but it's time to grow up ! Other than that it was a really good video, it expressed very well the frustration that a lot of Lady Gaga fans have been feeling in the past 8/9 years. Sometimes it feels like she changes her mind way quicker than her career can afford. After the ARTPOP fiasco, she fully rebranded herself, with Cheek To Cheek, Joanne and A Star Is Born, as a former popstar who makes the music she likes and doesn't care if it works on the charts or not. But then after that somewhat critically successful yet commercially mitigated era she dropped Chromatica, a full-on mainstream pop album with a lot of commercial potential if well promoted/marketed. There were many great songs in this album and I could totally see Babylon, 911 and Sour Candy working well on the charts. Chromatica could have been another Born This Way, even another The Fame Monster if done well. But not only was Chromatica released in very difficult time for the music industry, she also flatout IGNORED the album after it was released. I get that with the heavy political landscape at the time (COVID, BLM & re-elections coming up) promoting your pop album would have made her look very bad. But I can't help but feel like it was so weird as a Lady Gaga stan because we literally waited years for this album, and it was a good album, it really was. But she acted like it never existed, never promoted it and went back to work on her acting career, changing her mind yet again in the span of a few months. All I know today as a Lady Gaga stan who used to be obsessed with her from Just Dance to G.U.Y, is that she's not the popstar she used to be, nor does she really want it. She tried to resurrect her superstardom in 2020 but the whole world was dealing with something greater at that time, and I wouldn't be surprised that she took this failure as a sign that it wasn't her destiny to became a heavyhitter again. I also believe that the trajectory Lady Gaga's career has taken has demonstrated something greater than just "pop music is dying" or "Lady Gaga is the last popstar". I think people just don't want to get involved in music as much as they used to. We don't crave the gasping at a videoclip or gossiping about rivalry between two popgirls as much as we did in the early 2010s. Internet and social media has massively raised awareness on environmental, societal and political issues, and that's for the better. Now, we sort of look down upon talking about Ariana Grande's homewrecking accusations or Dua Lipa's next sample album. We know that there are much bigger issues right now that need our attention.

Out of all the post Madonna female pop superstars Lady Gaga was the most disappointing one. Having said that i love Gaga , she started so greatly, she reached that iconic status with the signature looks so difficult to get in pop culture. I think you're not on the same thoughts as the pop fans in general. Gaga's three first records (The Fame, The Fame Monster and Born This Way) are considered highly successful and iconic, Artpop is considered and underrated masterpiece, the ASIB soundtrack was another great success. I don't know what y'all expect from her, all her albums have been successful and gave a lot of conversation between pop fans. Just because you don't like it or find it quite meh doesn't mean it had no impact. Born This Way is memorable af and so is Artpop. The impact is undeniable.

But i really enjoyed her performance, i didn`t get any unrealistic/bad acting vibes at all and thought she was great? It`s not like i`m a Gaga fanatic either, i remember her music and liked some of it. But as a pop personality i just felt she was a subpar Madonna copy and some of her bizarre fashion choices way too try hard. But in Gucci i thought she was great, i even kinda wanted to hate her and her performance but was surprised by her and the movie in general.

When Gaga first showed up music was a high popularity MTV still played music American Idol was still a thing on FOX and popular but the landscape for music changed people moved to streaming and stopped buying anything physical and you didn't see your favorite musicians on TV much anymore because MTV moved away from music. Lady Gaga has become a award winning actress she became what Madonna wanted to be. She moved on from her music career maybe she was burnt out maybe she's not who knows she may release another album someday but due to covid shutting down tours and her priorities moving onto acting.

@@SkyExplosion Madonna became the Pop Icon that gaga never got to be.. Her Peak is nowhere near Madonna's peak or longevity. and clearly gaga's forte is mimicing other italian women, Madonna, Gucci, etc. she is def an actress

I feel like the more she released stuff and became famous for it, the more she became aware of how she comes accross. It seems even a little too calculated whereas before it felt so spontaneous, so visceral of her. She even had a good sense of humour to her. The more her career became political and humanitarian, the more boring it got. It became less creativity and experimentation driven and became more activism, social service driven. Lady Gaga was "weird" because she broke rules and wanted to expand the limits of what a popstar could be like. Before, she was fighting to stay outside the box whereas now she sits comfortably inside it.

Great video. I don’t even like lady gaga but thought it was an entertaining watch.

I'll always love lady gaga. I feel awful about how she must've felt, and to be under that much pressure to top yourself. Literally competing with herself. I love that she found acting and hope to see her continue on for many years. And who knows, maybe she will make another album like "fame." I do want to know, what music does she TRULY want to make? I would be curious to see her make an album of the genre she really wants to perform. Remember what Pink did, she was not at all interested in R&B, but it was what got her out there. She was lucky to end up such a success making the music she really wanted to make, and she blew up. Do u think she would have such a great career if she stayed R&B? Probably not. Gaga is so talented and i dont see her fading from music, unless its by choice. Dont give up on your music gaga!! I cant wait for u to have your true comeback!! ❤

I know she is still successful and talented and I will always love her but she (her music and visuals) are so boring now. She used to put out hits after hits, a bunch of iconic music videos from a single album, she was the biggest popstar on Earth, she was so damn iconic, her concepts, visuals, her music... she was untouchable. Nothing can top The Fame / The Fame Monster era.

You obviously too also must have had 3 teenage sisters in the year 2009 😂😂😂

My wife and I were big Lady Gaga fans before Born This Way. Since then we don't even care. We still listen to her early stuff, but not very often. She could turn her career around by going back to her early sound, but I don't see it happening.

The reason why gaga is not big as she used to be is because she was never original... She stole ideas from people, and it just seemed like a big collage of basically artistry all put together and someone acting it out... that is not artistic and that is not a way of showing any kind of "Art Pop" especially when it's done and poorly and almost seems like something filmed for Saturday Night Live performance. I even think that she likes to make up certain things at a given time such as a claim to have gone through bullying in her teens and then suffering from Fibromyalgia, and then, claiming to be bisexual to only say in front of an episode on RuPaul's drag race to say that she is a straight woman with the LGBT alliance which is perfect but why do you have to lie about your identity and other things? It makes no sense and it just seems like this is somebody that has suffered from trying to get attention from people. I think that whenever Madonna posed with her, I believe it was in 2018 or 2017. It was basically for publicity purposes, because Madonna knows that gaga is a fake and was an industry plant and one of the first industry plants at the time. Gaga is still sort of relevant today mostly because of some of her gay fans but even that is something that many people can see is that a lot of her artistry in the early early 2010s was basically homage and a sloppy homage to Madonna and other artists.. She never came across as authentic in any of her music and it's why, after artpop, she knew that it was definitely not original, and she was not meant to be an artist. she can sing and she can do anything, but I think that if she would've came out first with an album like Joanne, her career would probably be a little bit better and her authenticity would be a little more sincere. Because whatever she was doing prior to her album Joanne she was basically copying and making mockery and trying to be relevant during those times of The Fame Monster, Born this Way and Artpop. Nothing was ever original.

Darling she can’t even sing. Every vocal teacher can hear that she has a musical voice with a very basic technique that you use at musicals and which literally everyone can learn in 3 months - just as Reese Whiterspoon did for the Movie walk the line. Even that is a complete exaggeration and just basic. Her entire career was fabricated with stolen content and a concept Ysan Roche created on how to build the female David Bowie in 2007. There is a lot more on how they tried to silence her and other artists to the point that they almost died

Rain On Me was not the lead single, that was Stupid Love (a #5 hit). Also your chart data is wrong considering Chromatica had sold over a million units (equivalent) in the US alone as of January 2022. Hell it sold 205k PURE SALES ONLY in the first week in the US. Especially the first two albums [The Fame(MONSTER) EP ]that Set the modern/2000s era tone and articulated ,showcasing a global theatre on “pop culture “ in real time collectively in sync with her actual career (a star born). Literally formulated a stage name“L.GAGA” as a vessel to channel the beauty and brutality of fame , the rise and fall , the light and the dark. The contrast of a stars fame . It’s shows the average person who chases ” it “as the “American dream” knowing little or nothing about “it” but only the glory $ide 📸. I truly believe Her message was loud and clear. A tribute to the ‘fame” , a tribute the culture a tribute to the stars and a tribute to the “ART” in “POP”- culture. The powerful grip and illusion that“The Fame” has. “its” a very powerful unconscious conscious, unpredictable entity that evolves in stages with each individual star’s cycle. She out grew the era because she accomplished her goal and message. B.T.W was the true anticipated release because it’s a whole different POV of the character L.G in her “art pop culture “story. It’s like novels being released with a spin keeping you ALMOST full never quite there making you want more as we watch a character and real person grow thru the cycle . example: “fame and Fortune “. It’s never seems to be enough. This is my interpretation . Hear me out: Firstly, you're just a Madonna fan in disguise, obviously. Secondly, even you can't compare Gaga and Madonna in an apple-to-apple way. The landscape of music consumption within the last 10 years has vastly changed compared to the 20 years between the 80s to 00s. The artist has to promote their music through TV shows, radio, etc up until 10s. So, Gaga came at the edge of that era. Then why was Taylor Swift able to pull it off? Well, Gaga had changed her trajectory of career cause she has countless talents to offer, so why should stick to one scope? She has the power still, but she doesn't want to. To be successful in music is not her one and only projection for her 15-year career into the scene. So, let's not compare her impact with Madonna or other mainstream singers cause their approach was different. Even in the acting scene, she continues to make an impact and inspires other artists beyond the music industry. Thirdly, do you suggest she be extravagant and keep the aesthetic for her entire career? C'mon, that's lame. That would not work either. She became huge because she broke the rules. What's the point of being weird while the other main pop girls are trying the same way nowadays? In conclusion, you're video would be more relevant if you added "music" in the subject cause she is still huge as an artist - just look at the numbers of the Joker trailer itself. Not to mention her A Star Is Born era.

She won the Tricon AND artist of the year award (plus more) in 2020. And let's not forget the rap/trap dominance during those years also. NO pop stars were that big during those years. Dua Lipa was probably the biggest and she never reached even ARTPOP's level of success. Stop being a hater. This is clearly not an unbiased review of Gaga's career.
