What DOWNTOWN PORTLAND OREGON Looks Like Today | Walking Portland

#Portland #PDX #DowntownPortland
I decided to drive to Portland, Oregon, 3 hours south of Seattle, to do some relaxing, eating and walking. I walked from Pearl District to Old Town, to the Saturday Market by the Willamette River, to Downtown Portland and back to Pearl District.
Portland is currently in Phase 1 of Covid-19 Stay Home Order. Some businesses are boarded up - most likely due to fear of looting and vandalism from protests. This is Portland on Saturday June 27, 2020.

I started going down to Portland regularly around 2004. It was a beautiful, charming city filled with nice hotels, stores, and restaurants but it has really deteriorated since then. The events of the last year have only accelerated these trends. It looks worse than New York in the 1970s. I doubt a Rudi Giuliani could resurrect it. But then, people and their leaders have to WANT improvement instead of decay. That might be the root of the problem right there. You can't have civilization where people don't value it.

I live here, I miss the old Portland, I no longer feel safe a lot of the time due to the junkies who live super close to schools and downtown. Tents everywhere, trash everywhere, I have seen people rocking in their tents from drugs and shouting and screaming. Recently graduated high school, we found needles all over or school lawn. Elementary and High schools are falling apart, ceiling tiles breaking and water leaking, lead in our pipes. It is sad how much money people pay for the lack of safety and prosperity we receive in our city. I have sympathy for people truly down on their luck in our city, however, the vast majority of homeless people I see are drug users downtown with no chance of ever getting off the street. I am truly saddened by how we are handling the homeless crisis. We need responsible people to help weed out the bad and the good homeless. It is a very difficult task, but it needs to be done because living like this is sad and to say the least, I no longer want to live here anymore until something is done about it.

that's because the kommunist rioters have taken over, and the police do nothing there. i live in vancouver, wa, just across the bridge. we don't put up with that bullshit here. we're even sending our cops and deputies to pdx to save their sorry asses at our own expense. "mutual aid," ffs... there was a truly peaceful protest here in vancouver, and all was fine, cuz those kommies know not to bring their bullshit here. ppl from beaverton, hillsboro, tigard, etc, absolutely know not to go to downtown portland during this crap. it started with the bicycle protests in the 90's, and those bolsheviks have gotten worse and worse. so the rest of us just don't go there.

Maxwell Arnold Yes, they are human. But I just didn’t want trouble. There are few corners(forgot the street names), they love to hang out. There were few of them usually. As I approached the intersection and look to my left for incoming traffic, they stood still in corner to my right. But as soon as the traffic clears and I start to turn right, they’ll jump onto street, in front of my car, to pretend to try to crosswalk. If I’m not careful, I’ll hit them, or they’ll hit my car. It happened to my brother and I many times but we managed to stop in time. When you accidentally hit them, all of them surrounded the car asking for money. It has happened to my friend. He warned me about it. I hope my story make sense. This happened some 30 years ago. Like I said I don’t want trouble.

I used to visit NW Portland every year. No longer. I stopped going when the mayor backed antifa criminals over law abiding taxpayers. I hated seeing the filth and vandalism that comes with ultra liberal policies. I did not like the stench of urine and human waste common in some of the parks. I didn't feel confident that the police would protect me if I needed them. No more Portland, no more Seattle for me. From Seattle to Los Angeles, it appears that the Democrat politicians that rule cities prefer losers, vandals, criminals, anarchists, and insurgents over law abiding taxpayers who love living in the United States.
