    New manager's to do list: 1. watch all of AltEndings videos; and 2. address all the weaknesses that he is able to see but that professional coaches appear oblivious to.

    Ha...very kind. Some coaches are very smart and have reasons for seeing things, but plenty of them get basics that all of us can see wrong. Going for so long without proper corner or free kick plans is something not even the local U10s side is guilty of.

    100% spot on assessment. If there is ever a fan buy-out, we need you to be the chair with your assessment of the games and the club. I especially agree with the part on Luke. I too love the guy, but he isn't a CB. At the same time, I don't know if he could fulfil the Holding/Defensive Midfielder role all the time. Keep him as a squad player. Does open up the captaincy question

    We just need a decent appointment and it isn't hard to find them on the criteria of our needs - especially given the clubs resources in data and scouting. That we waste opportunities to appoint on the most important role in the club is the problem. Dodds shows the result of this...imagine what results a good one could deliver. Much more than I can see in my videos.

    @@altending I can clearly see some of the problems from all the way over here in Thailand. How Dodds, Proctor and Speakman can't identify the blindingly obvious problems from in front of their noses every day is incredibly disappointing and borders on amateurish given the resources at their disposal. This is not a Sunday morning pub league. The second half of last season was a really wasted opportunity and extremely dull to watch after the relative excitement of attacking football under Mowbray.

    The set-piece issue has been utterly baffling for such a long time… One of the things that brought Arsenal so close real success this season was their decision to maximise those opportunities by employing a specialist set-piece coach. We’ve somehow contrived consistently to minimise ours! With regards to Luke… I love that lad to bits, but I’ve said for years that it remains a cold, hard fact that he joined us (from Wycombe Wanderers!) as a very good third tier footballer, and that he remains… whatever position he plays! That’s a good standard, but it ain’t what we’re aiming for. The third thing I want to say is that the striker issue is a distraction. Arsenal very nearly won the league this season, playing expansive, scintillating football and scoring 91 goals in the process, and in Germany Bayern Leverkusen put together arguably the best season ever seen in a top European league, scoring 89 goals in 34 games. Their top scorers were, respectively, Saka, with 16, and Boniface, 14. So on a par with Clarke then. It’s not about who we put on the pitch but how we get the best out of what we have and, as you’ve eloquently demonstrated, neither Beale or Dodds did that… It’s not just personnel, it’s style as well.

  • @altending

    Good points. And for the record I like Luke too. His range of passing from the back is great, but it should be a worry that he remains a first choice center half, because that isn't compatible with promotion.

    @geofflaidlaw7496 Recruitment has been poor. Triantis isn't ready. Forwards not good enough, no replacement CDM. I mentioned all these in the vid as well. It is surely not in contention that Ballard is our best choice centre half and that Luke has been excellent cover but should not still be our second best centre half. He is and has performed well enough there, but the fact he is still an automatic for the team sheet at centre half speaks volumes about the lack of quality and depth in our backline, don't you think? It isn't wrong to think our ambition should be to have a back line he isn't good enough to get into. That's not the same as saying he's rubbish or blaming him for things.

    Great to see you back Alt. As you rightly said, coaching for attacking/defending corners + other points can all be improved with targeted coaching - we'd get an immediate team upgrade. This has been going on for so long, it's bordering on incompetence. I think we're also pretty rubbish at throw ins as well. On a different note - with benefit of hindsight, I wonder if Graeme Murty might have been a better choice as end of season manager. He's done really well with U21s and first team isn't that much older + he has managerial experience. Unfortunately was never going to happen as he doesn't fit the model. Cheers

    Well put together as we've come to expect from you. However, the main problem is the people picking the next head coach .We were told it would be dynamic front-foot football with the head coach being interchangeable. This was supposed to be a well-thought-out plan. There's little evidence of this. There should be some commonality. between the coaches, you would think. The only commonality between Niel, Mowbray, Beale, and Dodds is they've all criticized the model in other words the recruitment..niel didn't vocally criticize it but it was certainly a factor in him not taking the job. Mowbray was the only one who fitted the front-foot rhetoric. They were looking to replace last summer but didn't follow through, thus achieving nothing other than undermining a man who had done a remarkable job. They then expected him to repeat that without addressing the squad's deficiencies in competing in a stronger division than the previous season. You did a video pointing out his shortcomings, No argument with that. video but for me, it was the poor recruitment that had taken us as far as we could go not Mowbray. We will never know because he was sacked in a fit of petulance after he told the home truth about the poor recruitment one too many times, It was a cowardly act..He was a scapegoat for said poor recruitment. At the time I described his sacking as harsh but ok we have a well-oiled succession plan. That turned out to be pure rhetoric. All this is bad enough but add on a man whose upbringing is steeped in football claiming he didn't know the significance of the derby. A statement up there with I had a condition which meant I was unable to sweat at the time and I drove to Barney Castle to see if I could drive to London as some of the great absurd statements of recent times Unless KLD and Speakman learn from their mistakes a new head coach won't make any difference. .

  • @altending

    @altending

    Ай бұрын

    Agreed. They've said a bunch of horse shit and been found out about it too many times and their line of credit is running out. I just hope they understand how crucial it is to get this appointment right. Evidence to the contrary...Mowbray was not a planned appointment, but a desperate 'who's available' one and Beale must either have been a great liar or the board are idiots, because his football isn't anything like they claimed to want and there was no data to support him being chosen for the job. They were unprepared when they fired Mowbray. Roll on June 1st and the hope that they have learnt their lesson.

    They club only agreed when NUFC offered to pay for all the costs of the bubble. Add to that the Black Cats bar and the prices. Regardless, the whole thing was a PR disaster that they underestimated. On Luke, I don't think he was first choice centre half last season and the team scraped into the top six on the lowest points total in over ten years. I'm not sure that is a vindication of him being a promotion winning centre half. That said, he's definitely still first choice centre half, but that's my problem. We need to be stronger in this position as a team.

I don't get the grudge around it tbh just move on lol. People act like kld and speakman were happily painting the howay the lads themselves, in that case it would be unforgivable. Surely the reason it was a low top 6 tally was because we had lost our 1 goal per game striker and both our LBs were out? Not because luke was at CB, the guy who is to blame for everything apparently. We wanna play attacking football, he's the most dynamic CB at bringing the ball out in the league.

    @jonny_t0263 You miss the point. I am not blaming him. I was suggesting that your claim he is a top six centre half based on last season isn't really true as it was a ten yr low for 6th and he wasn't even main choice centre half. He has played well. He gets little or no blame from me. Suggesting that we should have at least two centre halves as good as Ballard in order to get promoted isn't blaming Luke.
