The problem is our government is not investing enough in Defense spending. It should be at least 2 percent of our GDP because right now we are only using 1 percent which is 290 billion and 2 percent would be 580 billion pesos. We would be be able to buy submarines, air and missile defense system and MRF immediately if we increase the budget of National Defense.

even if we eliminate corruption and inefficiencies its not going to be enough to fund the minimum defense requirements of the country. Throw in tax increases, cuts in social services and entitlements (ex. SSS, Phil health, education, irrigation, heath services) and even pay cuts across the board. Even then it still wont matter, China is just too f*ckin big, hence the need to beg the US for protection.

In reference to middle power, the Philippines, specially our leaders and politicians, and the rest of the Filipino population, are oblivious and don't understand nor comprehend, nor do they have the ambition and aspiration to think big and reach for the top or even in becoming a middle power and beyond. The state of mind of Filipinos particularly our leaders and politicians have not shown any such grandeur in their ambition and aspiration for the country. Their mindset is parochial at best and are pang baranggay lang only. Filipinos have never reach critical stage to cultivate a sense of Nationalism to aspire and be ambitious as far as wanting to be a great and powerful nation. We have not yet graduated away from that pang baranggay lang mentality and formulate our aspiration and ambitions to become a great player and influence in our part of the world. That should be changed and maybe this bullying of china will just become the catalyst that will galvanized our leaders and the Fi!ipino people and usher in a new era and propel the Philippines to be a great and powerful nation.

The name of the game is to become self reliant. There are low hanging fruits that the government can use as leverage i.e start the program of self reliance. Philippines announced later this year that an Australian company Austal will build 40 coast guard vessels. Philippines is capable to build warship or naval vessels at it's Hanjin Shipbuilding in Subic . Second Philippines can produce it's own surface to air, surface to surface missiles and drones. Make the Philippines as Israel in the SCS.

Austal will get the 40 patrol boats. @@okamsug

Troops, we lacked the equipment and weapons but we didn't lack experience as Filipinos soldier was trained through EDCA, foreign exercises and exchange, and mostly wars. Antayin lang natin ng konti because right now, based on what I’m hearing from the news, they might be potentially cooking something that might be the solution to the problems we face. You are the experts, you might be noticing it. Let them cook. They are onto something. That’s defense. But in terms of infra though, they must replace Jaime Bautista and Manny Bonoan because they’re slow. They’re not getting things done. I mean it has been 2 years and we cannot feel the change that should have been felt already in terms of transportation. Di pa matapos tapos ang LRT 1 extension(I’m not calling it Cavite Extension kasi nga di naman umabot sa Cavite). Pres should replace these guys in charge of the infra. Hirap magcommute dong.

I wish they considered colors that are more conducive to rest and relaxation. Blue is just too jarring (just how blue light keeps you awake). I wish the designs considered the effects of color and ambiance for mood and incorporated more of the vibe of Filipino culture and art-the rooms feel very western. But I guess they had a meager budget.

SOLUTION: Since the Philippines is basically poor, corrupt and factionalized…its only option is to cling to the US. Pia Wurtzbach pretty much summed it up at the Miss Universe pageant in 2015. In addition, the Philippines does not really need its own army, since it is so dependent on the US for defense, JUST USE THE US MILITARY BY GRANTING AMERICA A FREE LEASE ON MANY LANDS ALONG THE WESTERN COASTS FROM BATANES TO SULU. End of story. The Philippines is not a middle power… IT HAS NO MILITARY POWER….WE CAN’T EVEN DEFEND OUR FISHERMEN LET ALONE UPHOLD OUR RIGHT ACCORDING TO THE UN. I'm so sick of hearing the word "disinformation", or "misinformation". from people who assumes that their narrative & opinion is the absolute truth. There would have been no wars, debates, or lawsuits if the truth is as simple as what one side believes

The United Nations 180 plus countries should not be allowed to use the title job I.D president. who adopts the presidential form of government or is described as an independent democratic and republican state. Republic way back in 509 B.C. way back in Roman times was always associated with polytheism, paganism, or non-Christians and rulers should be non-Christians too. Catholic and Protestant Christians are always associated and cannot be detached from a monarchial form of government started out in the Middle Ages. It just happens that the Republic and Catholic and Protestant Christians were merged by the United States of America after World War 2 at the same time partnered with a presidential form of government headed or ruled by the president. Nationalism and Liberalism in 1960 in the Philippines never existed in a presidential form of government after World War 2 but existed in a monarchial form of government particularly in Europe. Republic is a war loot price dividend distribution award trophy to the United States of America, Great Britain, Russia, France, and China after World War 2 against Italy Germany, and Japan. Republic is simply an iconic home, a house, and a fortress castle property of Rome transferred to the U.S.A. after the war.

No. I strongly disagree. I don’t think the Philippines is nowhere even near a "middle power" when it comes to military strength. It needs to seriously increase its percentage of military spending to achieve such title. For one thing, it has one of the weakest militaries in ASEAN.

Problem is we don’t want liberty as much we want a big government to produce problem solving. We must Decrease funding of social programs, cash gifts, indoctrination, etc. look how Argentina’s new President is doing it. Then and only then can our nation focus on being capable of defending itself.

I agree it's too far to consider Philippines. Our military is still low tech compared to others. The weapons disposed on Ukraine are consider trash for the US and NATO and Philippines still buys them. Philippines can't even harness even half the potential of there resources. This self proclaimed expert didn't even know how the 1st world works there. Cant even see the whole picture off the world only seeing Philippines as if it's the center of there world.

The Philippines should surrender the job title I.D president and vice president to the United States of America after World War 2 for North America has a veto power to use or not to use nukes to enemies.

The idea that the Philippines can be considered a middle power is simply laughable. Its so-called 'power' is mainly reliant on a service-based economy and the money sent back by overseas workers. The country is even unable to guarantee its own people's food security, which is a clear indication of its limitations. It is absurd to believe that the Philippines holds any significant influence in the region - its recent international attention is solely due to the Chinese Communist Party's encroachment on its territorial waters. So, can we honestly call the Philippines a middle power? Let's face reality and abandon this middle power label. It's time to stop fooling ourselves, 34:08. A middle power “has sufficient strength and authority to stand on its own without the need of help from others." What on earth is the gentleman thinking?

A cohesive national consciousness is necessary in order for us to even contemplate our place in this world. Things I hope for the Philippines: 1) a strong naval force 2) Philippines viewed as key to China’s security rather than a threat 3) a respected neutral state at the nexus of the Indo Pacific
