I really like Simon Jordan. He’s seen it all and clearly doesn’t filter his opinions to suit anyone’s agenda. He’s completely honest.

Great insight. Managers are bottom of the pecking order in most clubs nowadays. Terrible.

Players are commodities now, a marquee player is as much of an investment as stadium naming rights, kit & sponsorship deals, so at some clubs, as Pochettino said, managers no longer manage, they are simply first team coaches, non super managers(Wenger, Pep, Klopp, Ancelotti, Mourinho, Capello etc) don't have the pull nor leverage, so can be disposable if troubling to some of the club's key "assets", the expensive players.

I would have enjoyed it more if Roman THE EMPIRE Abramovich and the Manchester City owners had been the guest speakers. They know how to runna football club.

I disagree with his last point. Good ownership is defined by good recruitment. We've seen countless examples of chequebook clubs who've imploded in the mega-money era post Abramovich.

Simon is an entertaining guy...but all of his ideas, his notions of a FC, are very much stuck in the 80's. I think there's a reason he's a pundit and not an owner or even tasked by an owner to help run the club. He imagines a world where players have no leverage, where there's not a global marketplace for all talent, where players sign indentured servant contracts and the manager is his overseer....it's all very 1989...
