@@kettnercreative can you show a video of how to use the tape in, tape out and the foot switch in a mixing console?
Inserts can also be used as an audio output Jack to record to an interface or tape machine by using the 1/2 click method (pushing a T/S instrument cable 1/2 click into the insert Jack, and then into the interface) I find this to be a great way of recording because it’s pre-fader, and pure un colored audio.

So I can use these inserts as outputs right? Can you please send me a link with the right type of cables? Thanks a lot!!!
Thanks for making videos like these! Very informative and educational! 😊
Made it so clear and obvious. Thanks man!
Amazing video - I have good comprehension of inserts now, after trying to find a decent resource for ages!
Really love the clarity of your videos! Very few people explain these things thoroughly and you do that amazingly, thank you! You're also the reason why I bought the Mackie Profx10v3! Great mixer! Two years in however I'm still baffled with how to use FX SEND! In particular I am confused on how to connect a (stereo out) effect pedal such as a reverb or delay to the board (say for my voice) and how to get the right 'blend' out? The user manual is super cryptic about it. Thank you in advance! 🙏
Thank you so much for sharing. I learn a lot from your videos and I enjoy your presentation style.
couldn't have been clearer!! Thanks and congratulations on such quality content.
Great video, very clearly explained. Thanks!
This is super handy, thank you! My mixer doesn't have an insert, but my dbx 286s does. This will take less cables and messing with AUX in and out to work now.
Thank you for making this kind of informative videos please make more videos on Mackie profx 10v3 ❤😊
Thanks for your Dedication
This was super helpful, thanks a bunch!
Great tutorial
Super tutorial! :)
Great video Thank you 🙏🏾
Thank you :) That was helpfull, and answered my question
I was not aware that the signal leaves and comes back through the same "insert" point. I thought the signal left and had to be returned to a separate channel. Thank you for sharing!
Excellent
loud & Clear..thx
very informative for a noob like myself. Thank you
Fantastic
Great vid! This is the first one I watched that made sense! Question: using the mixer you are using for this demo, how would you get the compressor to be more like a "send" rather than an insert? Would love to use a reverb and be able to send any channel to the reverb using the FX send. I have a Mackie ProFX16v3. Similar to the mixer you demo'd with slightly more inputs but that's about it. Thank you again!
Great content, clear and straightforward, thanks much. How would you wire this to a patch bay?
Thank you
Very useful info , dude . Thanks .
If I want to use my outboard effects box to all channels on the mixer do I use an insert cable in the effects send jack?
I'm digging your instructional videos and learning a lot. The only topic I would love to see covered is the Foot Switch. Some mixers have them and I have no idea what they are for and how they are used. I assume its for a stomp pedal, but does it then go to each individual channel and add that to the whole mix or is it routable?

Good idea, I’ll make a video on it

PEDALS MOVE THE EFFECTS ,UP AND DOWN TO EACH SOUND BEING USED ,DEPENDING ON WHAT THE UNIT HAS.REVERB DISTORTION ETC. THE FOOT SWITCH IS USED TO CHANGE EFFECTS BY FOOT INSTEAD OF YOU BENDING DOWN AND MOVING THE PEDAL BY HAND
Thanks for the video tutorial! The way you have set for this video, is it possible to route the output to a second external unit? So 2 external effects on channel 1.

Thanks.
What is the difference between connecting outboard gear via insert and connecting via line in? My setup: Mic to tube preamp via XLR Preamp to comp XLR channel 1 Compressor to eq via XLR channel 1 Eq to UMC404HD interface via XLR channel 1 Interface to Mac I just am confused on the difference. I also have insert jacks on the back of my interface for each channel. What is the difference in using them, what could they be used for in my situation, and would you change anything? Thanks for your informative video!!

I see no one has yet replied. I think the answer really depends on your musical aims, and without knowing that, it's difficult to offer any suggestions.
Có thể insert nhiều chanel vào 1 kênh xử lý không?
When I connect an external reverb unit via INSERT does it override the onboard reverb/effects that my mixer (Yamaha MG166CX) has. And how do I control the external reverb unit's parameters? Do I turn the EFFECT knob on my mixer to 0?

DONT USE THE REVERB ON YOUR MIXER , ITS TOO MUCH ON TOP OF EFFECTS , YOU ALWAYS WANT ONLY ONE CLEAR EFFECT YOU CONTROL BECAUSE YOU WILL DISTORT YOUR SOUND BADLY ,AND IT WILL OVERPOWER THE SOUND TOO MUCH
Please explain how to use stereo channels.
Great video. When would you use an outboard compressor, for live shows or just home recording?
@kettnercreative
9 ай бұрын
Both. It's very common to use an outboard compressor on drums and vocals in a live environment.

I do it for home recording ,but you can do bot!!!!h but remember!!!! live guitarists use their pedals,,,,,,,for effects ,reverb ,distortion ,their own sound and effects, and screw up the levels and sounds your trying to compress ,, just use it on drums and things that are not using pedals!
Hi, I have a Digital MPA, I want to run inserts to my FMR rnc1773, however the inserts on the back on both units says tip=in , Ring =Out. not sure what kind of cables to use for this setup. please help with the connection on these 2 units! thanks!

one click in insert is tip in=input , push all the way in is 2 clicks on insert entrance =output. its tip ring sleeve wiring you need to know look up his video he ex[plains it ...one tip only with two females out should work , I think

They’re good for the $$. Not the best mix you can get, but they’re great value.
Explain the reverb. Thank you
So, is the mnemonic "red, ring, right, return"? ("right" because if you're splitting stereo to mono, red is usually the original "right" channel?) 😄
@JuanUys

BTW, I'd also like to see a video on putting a stereo instrument (e.g. synth) through a stereo outboard FX unit (like reverb), e.g. either using 2 mono mixer channels and their inserts, or a stereo mixer channel with aux or inserts on two other mono channels, especially for the case where you only want the effect on one channel (I'm aware FX send tend to apply the FX to all channels or channel groups). (I've not seen inserts on stereo mixer channels). Thanks for the informative video!
Can you use this cable to connect a keyboard 🎹 to a stereo channel
@mandolinic
3 ай бұрын
Yes - it's the same cable. Plug the red mono jack in the right channel input, and the black (or grey, or white) jack into the left input.
aren't the I/O's of Golden Age balanced?
Are the inserts pre or post preamp?
@kettnercreative
9 ай бұрын
They are typically the first thing post-preamp. I've heard of some mixers where the insert is post EQ, but I've never seen it before.

@@kettnercreative Thanks
I don't think you explained whether the signal travels from the mixer through the tip or the ring. (Obviously, it returns through the ring or the tip).
@luisjustiniano4028

I think tip is input
Generally I’ve stayed away from using inserts because they’re unbalanced connections, is that weird of me?
@kettnercreative

It’s worth considering, for sure. But 9/10 times it’s no problem.
HEY BUD , they have a lot of questions here you should go back and start teaching them ,,,there good questions and you ex[plain lovely, you should start doing that.
Thank you
