Cody, i am Egyptian from Canada, 1) Never show to much that your interested in the item, show them that you dont mind leting it go. 2) Negotiate the price you want only and go lower to have a margin of negotiation. 3) If he resist about your offer show him the money your offering. 4) If he keep resisting to much. Say thank you and leave right away telling them that you will try to find it somewhere else at your price and that you dont mind if you dont find it Most of the time they either wont let you leave the shop or they will let you leave and come to pick you up outside not to loos the sale

As an Egyptian a hint is to tell them that another shop sells them for a cheaper price and also pretend ur leaving prices go down quick that way

Okay for most things you got good prices , except for the lantern it almost costs from 60-80 LE and of course the papers 400 is just too much it by max costs 30 pounds each

Tip: don't convert to dollars. Spend Egyptian pounds like an Egyptian. Saved my friends and I a lot of money. haha the man selling the papyrus tho, he totally ripped y'all off :D great video by the way, brought back good memories.

I am a girl and we buy scarfs at this range of prices.. and this area is very cheap even for Egyptians&take in consederation the high hiring prices at these places&the collapsing of the Egyptian pound against the dollar(1 dollar =16,...pounds) . All these reasons make the prices very satisfying

Nefertiti Elizondo to be honest they could’ve bought these thing for almost half the price and especially for the papyrus both of them should’ve been sold for max 50 EGP... so just be careful because people in Egypt try to get the max from tourists so if you know an Egyptian friend you better take him with you to these shops

You actually got ok prices, whenever I buy souvenirs from any country I visit they are priced like 5 times the actual price and they don't even allow for bargaining, so I think that was pretty fair.

It depends on the place. In some places here the prices are final and nonnegotiable, while in other places specially local ones it's known that people try to negotiate too much before purchasing that's why he may offer higher price at the beginning.

That drawing you got 2 for 400 one actually costs maximum 50 Egyptian pounds

I bought one outside the Mohammad Ali mosque for 8 LE which was about $1.15 at the time. But it didn't have glow in the dark paint. I would pay $3-5 max for it depending on how much I liked it. Partly because the shop he is in has more overhead than a street seller. At the current exchange rate, that would be like 50 to 80 LE. The exchange rate was like 7.15 LE to $1. Now it's like 16 LE to $1.

My friend barters like you. We actually have had shop owner's friends chase us because they feel my friend got too good of a price. After watching your vid it made me realize we could get hurt over $3. We leave in a month for Egypt. Our shopping experience includes Turkey, Jordan and Israel. Oh, and don't wear shorts, correct?

Yeah you still got ripped off, those papyrus sheets go for 15 egp, I mean you did better then most tourists but don't feel too good about it. They can go SIGNIFICANTLY lower then they seem

@@mightykimo trust me dude, I'm Egyptian. I was there this summer and managed to get the same shit he got for 15 egp each, the glow in the dark with the same size. They just set the price so high because he's a tourist. You saw how he said he couldn't go any lower at first...before he dramatically decreased his price. They can go significantly lower but they don't because people assume they're getting a bargain when in actuality they are paying more then triple the standard cost to get these.

He got a perfect deal for as a tourist but really if he brought an Egyptian friend with him he might give him a more better deals really my advice to any visitor that gonna buy some thing from Egypt is to say the price that he wanna buy and pretend to leave so the seller will call him back and agree really do that always
