The mental aspect is a huge part of this sport. When I was a freshman in HS, if someone was ranked over me, I told myself it would be okay if I lost bc he’s better than me. By senior year, everyone okay losing to me bc I was ranked #1 and better than the rest. Glad you guys made this a short. It’s an important topic that’s difficult to coach, but when you see this stuff, you got to call it out. I don’t think it bothered KD very much but if it got in his head just 0.1%, well that was the difference in this match IMO. But mark my words right now. Screenshot this and I’m asking Flo to archive this comment bc I truly believe he never looses to him again and goes on a 2-3 year winning streak. 🙏🏼

I agree with you. What adjustments do you see dake making? I see Dakes game against Sidikov being promising. I think the small adjustments sidikov will make are not going to be as effective as the adjustments dake will be able to make. What do you think

@@Rob_2002_NCAA_Champion I think Dake stays away from the chest wrap. He can Dake Bomb 98% of the World, but when he locked it up Sidikov, it was defended so well by him dropping to the ankles. I think KD outpaces him and doesn’t let him in on the legs. Sure Sidikov could still get to his legs, but he’s going to have to sprawl like he used to do in NCAAs. Get in short offense and at least fight for a stale mate. That chest wrap got him in trouble and I don’t think we see that position anymore. What adjustments do you think make the outcome different?

@@GuyFromSC Dake's situation calls for the strategic acumen akin to Gene Mills' 'funk' style; unpredictable and off-tempo to disrupt Sidakov's rhythm. When we reference Mills, we're delving into the technical reservoir that only the most astute mat enthusiasts would recognize, his ability to scramble and create scoring opportunities from any position. Dake could benefit from integrating such unconventional approaches. Moreover, the application of the 'Gable grip' in tie-ups, named after the legendary Dan Gable, could provide Dake with the control necessary to prevent Sidakov from capitalizing on his leg attacks. Avoiding the chest wrap is prudent, but Dake's adaptability might be enhanced by channeling the likes of Chris Campbell's fluidity and underhook wizardry. In addition, the use of a 'Dake Bomb' could be timed with the precision reminiscent of John Smith's ankle pick - not overused, but executed with a sniper's precision. By marrying the ingenuity of Mills' scrambles with the foundational control of a Gable grip and the explosive opportunism of a Smith, Dake could craft a winning formula nuanced enough to satiate the purists of the sport and complex enough to confound Sidakov.

That match was really tight. It could have gone either way so many times. There are a million things that could have gone differently and when you get second they all consume you, but the best thing to do is just let that stuff go, and continue to sharpen yourself up. No single factor determines the outcome of a match.

Yeah, when he gets to that head outside position on a leg and turns it into a crackdown, I don't care who you think you are, he is scoring on you. That's why I knew that Dake's chest wrap wasn't going to be an issue for him, especially given what Sidakov did in the 2021 Tokyo finals match to Kadimagomedov whose chest wrap is even more versatile and sophisticated than Dake's is.

@@frankiecal3186 He only beat him by a few points because of a judges call that was very dubious and could have went the other way, as in no points, given that Dake didn't fully expose Sidakov's back to the ground not once during the scrambling sequence in the second period. So the real score should have been 10-3 for Sidakov. The only way Dake can possibly be more succesful against Sidakov is if he attacks him more, something which he alluded to in his post match interview, but I seriously doubt that will work out for him since Sidakov proved that he is better at handfighting and has more stamina in their match.
