The shallowness of his description of Kim Jong Un would rule him out as a CIA agent. That said, the CIA would probably be interested in what he learnt during his trip. Even if they didn't contact him directly, I'd wager that his electronic communications would be monitored to collect any information he might tell friends/family about his experiences.

marya_ If you think Kim Jong Un is straight up mental, you should brush up on your history of American/Korean relations. The way he is running his country is, in fact, very logical. Check Noam Chomsky on this topic, for example. John Oliver also did a good piece on this. It's no good burning the diplomatic bridge here! Most countries in the world scoff at human rights, on a sidenote... Are they all loons? Not at all - being a "living god" at the helm of a nation is just as much a figment of human imagination as "human rights". Where you were reared is all that makes the difference in which fiction you prefer. I believe Rodman when he quotes Jong Un as saying: "I don't want a war". We should focus on that. He's not crazy, but he's hanging onto his power by a thread. So he's being ruthless, and international smack talk is part of the routine. Let's not forget, in the 50's we bombed the Koreans literally back to the stone age. And revelled in it on the 5 o'clock news. We might have forgotten; they have not.

I admire Dennis Rodman for doing this, as well as for treating Kim Jong Un with the compassionate grace that stems from one human soul to another and that comes without judgment or predisposition.

I grew up hating him.....in my defense I was like 6 when he kicked the camera guy in the nuts and I thought that was all there was to him. But he has depth and charisma and patience and sincerity. I'm ....a fan.

Of course Colbert was just going to sit there and make fun of the man for doing something few others dare to: Using his power to spread peace and friendship instead of conflict. This was really disappointing.

I think Dennis is actually doing the correct thing here, the only reason he is close to Kim is because he is one of the few american people who isn't gonna try to "convince" him or talk about all the human rights and stuff like that, pretty sure if that were the case they wouldnt be close. He wasn't dragged into it, and he was never innocent. He had blood on his hands even as a small child, having his carers and nannies killed for not entertaining him enough. Kenji Fujimoto once dared to try and help Kim Jong-Un with a kite when Kim was a child, while the terrified nannies were crying and begging him to not go over to him, because they knew that if Kenji didn't get the kite to fly well, Kim wouldn't let him live. Luckily, the kite flew, and they remained friends to this day. But others weren't so lucky, especially those who appeared frightened in his presence. Other than that, I agree. It is a family business, and it's not easy to change it, even for the dictator. He would lose his power and luxury lifestyle in three weeks if he let go of his tight control of the population.

Its funny how the approach of being angry and fighting everything and never forgiving doesnt work but Dennis's way does.

I thought that video was great. Awesome interview!! My finger was gravitating towards the subscribe button, but the suddenley after the video ends I hear you say ... "Wow!! What a cliff hanger!!". My finger then flenched to the side of the phone in and emergency like fashion to hit the sleep button to stop the video as soon as possible!!!! Cut out the cheese please!!

Legit respect for Dennis Rodman and his genuine ambassadorial skills.

The power of sports...Rodman doing something diplomats should have done...I'm sure he was debriefed by CIA but we'll never know

Jesus Christ, Colbert was so condescending and could have taken advantage of this opportunity to get some true insight on the topic. But instead he just tried to make Rodman who is just being a genuinely, innocent person look like a fool

@kris wilkinson That's just ridiculous. It's just a generalization that states the obvious, but has no real world application. That's like saying, "Nobody wants to be poor." Does the statement justify the acts of someone who goes out and robs people at gunpoint?

Oh boy...

This is the first time I've been disappointed in Stephen Colbert. He was patronising, dismissive and missed a great opportunity. Communication is how we change the world, regardless of who we're talking too.

This NBA legend has a good heart.

Rodman is mainly the greatest rebounder ever in the NBA which takes a lot of athleticism and thirst. Also member of one of the best teams possibly ever existed, playing next to Jordan, Pippen and Tony Kukoc

Just because our government has done bad things does not mean we cannot point out when others do it. Nor does it make it right. We should point out both and condemn both.

That's the thing. North Korea usually tricks outsiders by only showing them the capital Pyongyang which is the wealthiest city in the country. Pyongyang's residents are mostly consisted of party officials and their family living way better thant the average condition of North Koreans. Some foreigners seeing this are misled to thinking "Hey, this isn't so bad after all. Maybe western media were portraying it the wrong way." However, where you get out of Pyongyang and go to countryside, you will probably meet a medieval time capsule.

Lowkey didn’t like how much Stephen tried to make Dennis seem like a trash human being but he was just being real and kept his composure which I’m glad he did. He quickly had a response for everything Stephen said and you could tell he didn’t like that

for what it's worth, Joe Rogan recently had a guest on who knows Rodman very well and he said the truth is Rodman, for better or worse, is very naive when it comes to human beings getting along, it's not an act, but genuinely believes he can have a positive effect even if it's not clear exactly how.

Maybe we need a little naivety. Keeping Un Locked away with his brutal nobility and worshipers is bound to push him farther into a mad dictator mindset no matter how evil (or as Rodman claims, decent) he is right now.

He isn't naive. He has first hand experience in both countries, which makes him one of the only ppl in the world of his kind. He's speaking from an informed, first hand basis standpoint. We, the spectators, don't believe his simple take on it because it doesn't match the complex take we've been told by people that also don't have his first hand experience.

Literally everyone who's met some of the worst dictators in history have said they were nice guys. Mugabe, Hitler, Gadaffi, they're all sociopathic, egotistical and charismatic. North Korea pathologically lie to its people and someone as naive as Rodman would be prone to their manipulation.

This video has aged very well. He knew that we and North Korea will be talking about peace agreements one day, and it just happened yesterday.

Those reflections make it look like his eyes are buggged haha

sometimes resolving issues takes baby steps and most people don't consider him smart but dennis already has that knowledge

Every time I see pictures of them together I can't wrap my head around how bizarre that relationship is... and I'm sure Dennis knows Kim is a lunatic but he knows the Koreans see all his public appearances and Dennis doesn't want to ruin their relationship so he doesn't talk him down

Looks like Dennis wasn't the one who was high after all.
