What Do Bond Fans Really Want?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Though silence can be deafening, the Bond silence can be downright disturbing! In this video I explore the question about what Bond fans want from products, experiences, and information and solicit a typical Bond fan to discuss the answers!

My 007 Wishlist 1. Stop making James Bond an overemotional wreck. 2. Stop making James Bond old and past his prime. 3. Stop having every James Bond story connected with all his previous films. 4. Stop making James Bond sexless. He is unashamedly the archetypal lady killer and emphasizes the sexual fantasy that appeals with both sexes. 5. Bond is a man of high class and sophistication in luxury things. All to add to the fantasy appeal. 6. James Bond is a stoic and masculine hero, that goes through great pain and turmoil to save the day. 7. Don't make James Bond political. He is Fleming's 'blunt instrument' of the crown and writers must not use Bond to pander or to serve any modern political or social causes.

Back to simplicity. The Sean Connery/ Roger Moore days of where every movie was it's own story and didn't have the pressure of following up on a story. The Goldfingers, Man with the Golden Gun, They Spy Who Loved Me. One movie on its own. Maybe the franchise has put too much pressure on itself to deliver a big big story. Like a Harry Potter series per say. I find myself watching the Moores, Bosnians and Connerys during my lunch breaks. That's my heart on my sleeve. In a 007 sense. Love the channel ❤❤

The Connery films [bar Goldfinger] have a story arc with him battling Spectre and eventually meeting Blofeld. But back then, if you didn't see it at the cinema, it wouldn't be on TV for years so you'd be cautious about sterilisation [outside trilogies like Star Wars] while now with Streaming/home media it's easy to keep up-the MCU would be unimaginable even in the early 2000's and even series like Mission Impossible have become more serialized over time.

Argylle flopping didn't do 'Caville for Bond' any favours either. I'd imagine a Bond set in the 60's would be more like the Fleming novels/more recent Horowitz books and be fairly serious to avoid the Austin Powers comparisons.

Fingers crossed they make the jump with a toy line, but I fear they either won’t out of fear of tarnishing the image of “Bond = Luxury” and a Luxury brand doesn’t make cheap toys. It’s the only thing I can think of. Even when the marketing machine was in full swing for Die Another Day, we never got a 3.75in scale GI Joe figs, accessories or anything. Fingers crossed with the growing popularity of smaller ReAction Figs and the very popular 1:12 scale figs we see across so many brands that James Bond can jump into that market and thrive. Especially with a full back catalog of films and characters we would all need to start shopping for a new display case as well 😂 Great video as always David

I know it was meant to be an affectionate parody, but I think Austin Powers did a lot of damage to Bond with general audiences. It made Eon distance themselves from the 'camp' comedy that had been a vital part of the films going back to Dr No, and it also made it difficult for a full blooded version of Blofeld (or Blofeld substitute), hence Christoph Waltz' semi-conscious performance.

Love this video. Well done. Enjoyed it. I am all over for a first edition box set of Ian Fleming books with the original covers. And, I also love the idea of James Bond toys. Being a LEGO fan, it would be fun to have a figurine of Sean Connery ... with the LEGO hair, and then without the LEGO hair. Don't take me wrong here. Just want to sound a bit cheeky. Sean Connery and Timothy Dalton are my favourite Bond actors. My least favourite is Daniel Craig (he just doesn't 'has' it). As for current Bond products that I'm not agreeable with, these are the DB5 (yes, I know) and the Omega watches (yes, I know). Sorry gentlemen, but here is why. The DB5 undoubtedly looked fabulous in 'Goldfinger'. According to the book (Chapter 7 - Thoughts in a DB3) the choice between an Aston Martin and a Jaguar 3.4 (my guess is this must have been an early XK120) . The truth is that the DB5 in the original movie (1964) is way behind the then E-type. The DB5 had a live axle, whereas the Jag. has all-round independent suspension. Why the producers keep on hammering out the DB5 in the Daniel Craig movies is beyond me. Please go for he AM V8 from the 'Living Daylights' (looks fabulous in the Johnny E. movie by the way). Next is that watch. James Bond is a Rolex man. As was Ian Fleming. Omega is nowhere to be seen in the books. Noting against Omega. Good watches. But not James Bond. in the book 'Live and Let Die' (that is the second book in the series after ' Casino Royal'), Ian Fleming refers to Rolex (Chapter 19 - Valley of Shadows). And in the first films, as you surely know, it is all Rolex right up until Timothy Dalton's 'Licence to Kill' Apologies for my wicked - weird off - comments about DB5 and Omega, but that doesn't mean any less appreciation for the wonderful channel you created. Your videos taken on location at the 'Thunderball' house, and swimming near 'GoldenEye' house were superb. Massively loved it. Thank you for those, As well as a big thank you for making this current video. Greetings from Singapore. Bart

Thanks for another great video! 1) I’m hopeful for December 2025, Goldeneye’s thirteenth anniversary. Amazon might be banking on that film having more weight with the “normies,” especially the fortysomethings for whom that film was their 007 entry point as teenagers. 2) My guess is that Amazon’s analytics 📊 regarding what they can realistically sell via their website, especially via Amazon Prime, and when they can sell it will determine what types of merchandise we get and when. I can’t see Amazon buying 007 and not trying to sell plenty of 007-related products. 3) We’ll probably see more activity when the new video game releases. More people might desire 007 video games above most other merchandise. People with fond memories of the Goldeneye game as well as younger fans who’ve grown up playing more online than with physical toys might be more likely to buy new games and save their money elsewhere. 4) Lego 007 playsets and Creator kits would be pretty cool if they don’t exist already. Thanks again!

If the producers can't figure out a way to make Bond relevant, then they'll just be admitting that they're out of ideas. Plus, we'd be throwing away 60+ years of Bond being set in the present, and being a snapshot of that era of filmmaking. I would like to see a 4K set with decent HDR and all with new Atmos mixes that do away with all of the added sound effects on the recent 5.1 mixes. If these were added due to issues of separating audio stems we now have AI that can do the separation, a la Peter Jackson's recent Get Back series

Bond movies seem to suffer from "series syndrome." Movies today seem to have multiple sequels to draw the audience back to see the whole story. Bond doesn't need that. Make good movies and, trust me, we fans will come back every time.

I've been a fan of the series since if age of 4. My dad got me into the films, the first two I saw were For your eyes only, A view to a kill and I was hooked. To this day Roger is my favorite Bond.I will admit I wasn't a fan of some of Connery's films that often get too much praise FRWL and Thunderball as they were slow burns. I much enjoyed Timothy Dalton, Lazenby, the first two Brosnan outings. I would rather try to forget the bulk of Craig as they don't much seem like Bond films with the exception of Skyfall, his second being Casino Royale, rest of this tenure is a downer. What I would like to see, is a return to the more classic story, over the top villain, with a slight campiness and amusing double entendres or one liners and amazing practicle effects/ stunts that doesn't fully rely on explosions or CGI, and for the love of all things holy, no woke agenda like what we saw in NTTD, god that film was a floater. Pretty females equal to Bond not ditzy, but not smarter than either this isn't Marvel. Chris Hemsworth would do a good job and takes the series back to a more Moore like film experience. My top 10 Bond films. 10. Skyfall 9. The living daylights 8. Tomorrow never dies 7. Octopussy 6. Goldfinger 5. On her Majesty's secret service 4. The spy who Loved me 3. Licence to kill 2. For your eyes only 1. A view to a kill

How about a mini statuesque of Blofeld different faces of Blofeld from actors who played Blofeld. Or James Bond bookmarks? So you can put your bookmarks in your favourite Bond books. And at the top of each bookmark each one is in 3D. 😎😏 How about that David?

Given Bond is a series that can go from 'Die Another Day' to 'Casino Royale' it can cover different tones and styles and at the end of the day your not going to be able to please everyone. You also have to attract a 2020's general audience [which is why I don't think they'd go back to the 'Bond formula' which has been retired for 20+ years now]. Roger Moore's films [bar 'For Your Eyes Only'] are generally far removed from the Fleming novels yet both have big fan bases.

@EthanKnight97 said it best on this comment section, but I’ll say this: I want James Bond to have fun being James Bond again. Casino Royale was the last time he did that. Stop being “influenced” by other franchises and get back to your own identity. Embrace, within reason, the fantasy element of Bond again. He needs to lighten up.

The 007 franchise has survived for more than 60 years for one reason - Don't mess with the formula. Beautiful women, cars, locations, action, guns, intrigue and a suave and stylish Bond. Mess with the formula (like they have been doing) and it'll all fall apart.

It's hard to get a consensus as Calvin Dyson for example is one of the biggest Bond fans around but isn't keen on Henry Cavile for Bond despite him being a fan favourite and when he did a video on a 'period Bond' he said the idea didn't enthuse him. There is also people who want 'accurate Fleming adaptions' but most of Fleming has been mined already so it might feel like treading old ground [and there's the radio series for that].

I like Daniel as an actor. I like that he did most of the stunts. But when I am feeling bad after a JB movie, there is something wrong. And I felt worse and worse, after each new Bond. This did not happen with any other Bond (Connery & Co). Heed that, when people are running out of of ideas and wonder how to catch the audience, they will fall back to children and children in danger, to create tension. And exactly this is what happened with JB‘s last movie. If you doubt my words, take a serious look at the Thriller genre and what happens to many formerly successful authors…

Bond needs to go back to Rolex. In the books its a rolex, in the early films its a rolex. He wears a damn rolex! Fleming wore a Rolex. Someone pointed this out to me and i never noticed but once they moved to Omega, there are multiple shots in the film showing off the watch and it feels incredibly forced. Awful stuff.

The whole scene at Blofeld’s party in NTTD. The tone was perfect - that’s what I want. Bond was cool, every character was cool. There was no cringe inducing wokisms, Bond wasn’t shown as too old or out of date. The whole thing was fun, without being campy nonsense. Do that.

Tell you what I want a back to basic, fun adventure, Casino Royale and Skyfall were awesome, don't dislike the Craig era could have been better and the attempts to string it together into one story weren't well done and dragged it down. a film like Goldeneye would be absolutely perfect don't want bond to have a narrative ark extending beyond one film just one great adventure good villians, great set pieces, great looking woman whether they're villans, hero's or damsels in distress. would like them to keep Ralph Finnes, Ben Wishaw and Naomie Harris in their current roles. would love to see Ana De Armas again. it's not complicated, just a cool hero, great set pieces decent enough story, exotic location bang bang bang, bond finishes in the middle of a tropical ocean hiding from rescuers because he'd rather have a shag too much to ask?
