Why? This movie has been hated and beaten to death. Give it some rest. There are worse movies and if I mean worse I mean worse. That kind of worse where you wish to be blind and deaf at the same time

Please, please do a ranking/discussion of the Disney *scores*! Alan Menken's scores in particular are way under appreciated and under talked about and I would love to hear your thoughts. 🙂 Excellent work as usual; you guys' passion and insights are always so engaging and I always know your video will be top notch. 👍 Where do I find friends like you guys? haha

My top three Disney renaissance soundtracks are: 1. Beauty & The Beast 2. Hunchback of Notre Dame (I like to pretend that the gargoyle song doesn’t exist 😭) 3. Hercules I also think that Beauty & the Beast is Disney’s best animated film.

Hunchback 🙌🏼

Hunchback is my #1 Disney film of all time. I don't mind the gargoyles. 'They provide much needed levity, someone for Quasimodo to talk with, and to give the audience information.

A Goofy Movie produced two of the greatest songs they've ever made. They can stand alone as 90s hits.

Lol the Hazbin mention was such a suprise. Your thoughts on it would be so fascinating. Awesome video as always!

all the gushing about Hercules reminds me a lot of the B-mask video on it.

The only answer I will accept is Robin Hood. "Robin Hood and Little John running through the forest...". and also a complete 180 to "Not in Nottingham".. Both catchy AF and easy to sing along with.

Fav to least fav music of the Disney Renaissance Era: The Hunchback of Notre Dame Beauty and the Beast Aladdin The Lion King Hercules Pocahontas Mulan Tarzan The Little Mermaid The Rescuers Down Under (My opinion seems to change over time, so the order changes, but the top 3 seem to stay the same.)

i love this video so much, i just love the renaissance, i love musicals, and i love the craft of good musicals that was so often on display in these films that i cant really discuss with anyone irl cause no one cares rip. rhank you for feeding me well lol :) also i agree, beauty and the beast is just... perfect, idk what i can say about howard ashman and how he changed the world of disney and musicals omggg

Jafar kinda sorta does have a villain song. It's called "Why Me?" and even though it ROCKS, it sadly didn't make it into the final movie. Thankfully, you can listen to it on KZread and find the odd fanmade animatic for the sequence. And yeah, I know about "Humiliate The Boy" too... but I like the other one more.

I'd love to see more of Morgan and the rest of your family. 😊 Beauty & the Beast is my number 1. The music in the opening scene still gives me goosebumps. If it wasn't for those damned gargoyles, Hunchback would be a close 2nd.

The gargoyle's song is so good! The way I interpret it is that the gargoyles are a figment of Quasi's imagination and so the song is kinda just him gushing over his crush Esmeralda the way people do when they are in love with someone.

I have the same interpretation of the Gargoyles, the song is good but atrociously placed, I reckon it should have been after Quasimodo first meets her like after Topsy Turvy or something because after Hellfire and when Paris is burning any silly song removes tension, I love every song in HoND and I damn well mean it but the placement ruins it tbh.

I completely forgot about the gargoyles in hunchback which is probably why it’s my favorite

I would have sub'd Poco for Robin Hood. So many catchy folk like melodies any day over maybe 3 good-decent songs. Still a great list and gotta agree with a lot of the points you both made!

Mark Mancina's contributions for the Lion King soundtrack is so underrated, also his soundtrack for Bad Boys is a classic

This was a good video but I was disappointed that the rest of the score didn't factor into the "soundtrack" rankings! Would love to hear more thoughts on the scores themselves. I loved your video on composers so I feel it would be a good fit!

That said I 100% agree with your assessment of #1! It's my favorite movie of all time honestly.

I’d have to say overall, hunchback, beauty and the beast, lion king, and Mulan are my favorites of the renaissance era soundtracks (emperors new groove solos. Source: just trust me bro it solos XD) hunchback is just breathtakingly spectacular and grandiose, I’m so mad that it’s the one renaissance film that I didn’t grow up with because it’s just brilliant in its score. Beauty and the beast is very very very close to one but I just don’t really listen to beauty and the beasts soundtrack as much as I listen to hunchbacks. And lion king…….i mean it speaks for itself honestly what do I even say it’s gorgeous. Hans zimmer being Hans zimmer indeed. And Mulan- wait a bit, the soldier in the mountains line is very good I love it I quote it all the time, BUT WE ALL FORGETTING BOTH THE “all of china knows you’re here. Hun leader: good.” LINE AND THE “how many men does it take to deliver a message?” LINE AND WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS SLANDER- anyways the soundtrack is good lmao

This is a HUGE undertaking, but you could watch all 62 movies by Walt Disney Animation Studios and rank them. I did that, and I'm working on a series of videos going over my ranking

I don't mind the gargoyles in Hunchback. That being said I think they were used WAY TOO MUCH. Like we didn't need Hugo blowing kisses at Djali, them trying to figure out what Esmeralda said about Frollo, "hurry we gotta stash the stiff" those things could've been cut & they wouldn't have been so overbearing

I like all the ideas: different eras, live actions, etc. I'd watch all of them! ❤ I'm sad for Mulan ranking so low for both of you, it has one of my favorite soundtracks, also the way the tonal shift is connected to the singing/non singing is brilliant - but I might have a slight bias towards it because the songs were translated in the golden age of Hungarian dub production and some parts resonate better in Hungarian than English (especially Make a Man) in my opinion... And my least favorite song of all those mentioned is Go the Distance but my favorite is I won't say I'm in Love, so I'm very conflicted about where I would rank Hercules. 🤔

30:33 the best Disney live action adaptations and the only that deserved to be made are Cinderella (because that movie was BEAUTIFULLY done and added so much to the original story without disrespecting it) and the Off-Broadway adaptation of The Hunchback of Notre Dame because THEY GOT RID OF THAT GOD AWFUL GARGOYLE SONG (and overall it plays with the gargoyles being figments of his imagination). They also made Quasimodo almost completely deaf because he lives with the bells. Overall, it gets much more material out of the book (the finale, Quasi being deaf, Frollo being the archdeacon, Phoebus being a badboy (though thank God not as a war criminal as in the book), Clopin being more of a father figure to Esmeralda, just to name a few changes). Plus, Stephen Schwartz and Alan Menken (the original lyricist and composer) wrote the new songs, so they keep the original spirit with some breathtaking melodies. The entr'acte gives me chills. Also PATRICK PAGE AS FROLLO I MEAN IT CAN'T GET ANY BETTER. and outside of Disney... Anastasia is one of the best animated-to-stage adaptations ever. It changes A LOT of the story but oh Lord does it improve it.

OKEY i literally stopped the video to go message my mom who ive been trying to educate on animated movies and shows for like 5 years now since i started studying animation in college. I made her watch beauty and the beast a few weeks ago and she liked it, not her fave but liked it (she likes almost exclusively 3d movies) but hearing you say B&tB is film magic, animation magic, which i agree 100% its my fav disney movie. AND THE AUDACITY DISNEY HAD TO BRING IT BACK AS A DEEP WEB TRASH COPY AS A LIVE ACTION (i wont even say remake cus no) AND RUIN IT. I have so many anger in me about that film... I was excited when it came out and ive never been so disappointed in my life like when i came out of the theatre.

So close with the Newsies and Hazbin Hotel connection. But the Newsies with Christian Bale is not the direct connection of Hazbin Hotel. He starred in the Broadway production and the Pantages Theater filmed performance. (I'm sure you learned that as you put his name in but just as a clarification for everyong else :3) Also "I Want" songs were a thing before The Little Mermaid but they cemented themselves in the Disney musical structure with "Part of Your World"

I was but a tiny bab first watching Pocahontas for the first time, I'm England and it was my intro to native Americans and Settler-Native relations. we get a very simplistic understanding on the settling of America and native Americans taught to us here too. probably worse because it "American" history and not considered ours

My knee jerk reaction is Hunchback but… honestly everything in Aladdin is iconic. So if we consider ALL songs in a film, Aladdin for me. But Hellfire and Bells of Notradam are peak

Also the fact that “If I Never Knew You” was cut from that movie is a tragedy

There is one song in Beauty & the Beast that I'd say is not a banger: Human Again. Great animation but an ultimately superfluous song that damages the pacing (as do basically all the special edition changes) and is just kind of mediocre to listen to. At least I know now to just watch the cinematic edition from now on and never touch the special edition again.
