    It’s so accurate the kind of form the other mother chose to take in being spider like. She took her TIME laying that trap for coraline even before she arrived at the pink palace. Then she sat back and waited for her to be lured in and didn’t give herself away immediately. Brilliant! So many hidden gems in this movie, and symbolic things. Love it 👌👌👌

    don’t know if someone else has already pointed this out, but the “welcome home” cake has a huge implication. when it comes to graphology, if the letter O in a word is written with a double loop, it means the person is lying with whatever word the double looped O is written with. the word “welcome” is written with a single loop, meaning that coraline is welcome, but the word “home” is written with a double loop, meaning she is not home. i was amazed when i first learned that.

    If you thought the movie was creepy, the book (written by Neil Gaiman) the movie is based on is even more unnerving. Towards the end, it's implied that the corridor Coraline travels through was a part of something alive and far older than the Other Mother.

  • @drizma
    @drizma Жыл бұрын

    You're actually completely right, this was too scary for children. The original editor for the book (which was apparently even scarier than the movie) thought it might be, so he read it to his daughter. She said it wasn't too scary, so they went ahead and published it. It wasn't until years alter when she told him the book terrified her, she just didn't want him to think she was a coward. Also, at the end of the book, the key fall into the Other Mother's hand. Remember at the start of the movie, when she released the doll into what looked like space? I'm pretty sure that was the bottom of the well, from which (like Wybie said) you could see stars shining.

    Here is a theory I found and loved. The other mother makes everything out of the sand used in the intro...when she made the coraline doll. BUT the more sand she uses the less control she has over them. Which explains why whybe and the other father helped coraline. Even when the other father was attacking her in the garden he kept apologizing and saying, "mother is making me". She needs the child souls to have these powers which is why she was desperate for coraline in the end. she was already weak when she first met coraline. Another theory was the reason the cat can talk and do so much is because he is actually whybe's great grandfather. aka grandmas' father. He found out what happened to his other daughter (the missing sister) and was changed into a cat (i forgot how) so he could protect any children who would live in the Pink House. Thats why the beldam does not like cats. p.s they say the mushrooms around the well symbolize magic meaning it is another opening to the other world...in the end the beldam gets what she wants.

    I love this movie so much. I love that in the real world, the people are the ones in color while the world around them is full and gray but in the Other world the world is colorful and the people are gray. Because in reality, it's the people who make things worth experiencing. It's the people who make things good and colorful. But the Other mother couldn't make the people colorful because they were just her pawns. They were extensions of herself so she couldn't breathe nonexistent life into them. Later, Coraline and her family and their neighbors made the garden colorful and lively because they were finally doing something together and breathing life into the garden. This movie has amazing symbolism and it makes my heart happy 🥰

    I don't think that the Beldam actually got the key back, since her hand that was separated was trying to stop Coraline from throwing the key back in the well. Then instead of trying to drag Coraline into the well she tried dragging her back to the house. The cat could vanish into thin air because, like he said, he's been going to the other world for a while, and the Beldam tries and fails to keep him out. He's a cat so he has superior senses, and knows where all the secret nooks and entrances between worlds are.

    One of the things I love most about this movie is that the other mother is suppose to represent a predator she spends all this time creating all this good will with the children she has brought into the other world and when she sees the moment is right she ask them to do something that they would have immediately said no to at the beginning and in this case she ask the children to let her sow buttons into their eyes

    Coraline's situation becomes even sadder when you consider that the family's financial troubles were made worse by *the accident.* Coraline's mother curiously sports a neck brace, which is an indication that she is recovering from something--likely, an expensive car accident on shoddy insurance. The accident itself, getting a replacement car (or fixing the old one), and the cash needed for a lengthy recovery process (medication, physical therapy, more) probably indebted them, which is why they were so strapped for cash throughout the film. It's also more than enough reason for having such a foul mood. She's probably in pain, but does not have the luxury to relax and heal. Completing their book was literally a matter of life and death for them, if they wanted to get out of debt and survive. But one may ask, "why did they choose to move, when they are on such a budget?" I think that was a last resort. I mean, look at the miserable, filthy, and broken state of the place at the start of things... They likely sold their old house, including most of the things in it, for a cheaper empty shell of a once fabulous mansion-turned-apartment-complex. It's big, but is as much of a fixer-upper as can be. It's a miracle that things turned out well for them by the end, because I don't know how long they could've lasted there.

    I remember watching this. I was 6 or so and I wasn't afraid at all! XD I found everything cute. Specially the button eyed dolls which should've been a hint of my Lalaloopsy dolls obsession as a preteen. Grew over it, but I still find button eyes to be adorable. I think I was also super distracted by the unique animation to be too scared which is an early hint of my future love for all things animated. Though this one was a very cleverly done stop-motion!

    The garden in the real world is the other mother and in the dream world its coraline also the other fathers song was a warning for her but she didnt understand it The song said Shes a peach shes a doll shes a pal of mine (the other father is on her side) Shes cute as a button in the eyes of everyone who laid their eye on her (always being watched) Also there is a theory wybie was sent to coraline by his grandmother in order to save him from the other mother 😅

    There are theories that the well is a secondary portal. Since it's said to be so deep that if you look into it, you'll see the nights sky. And in the other world it's only painted as night time. And the cat phasing to the other world is saying that there is still a place to go to.

    I’m sure it’s been mentioned in other comments but the garden looked like the Beldam at the end. Theories abound that Coraline never left, due to the cat disappearing again at the end - and that she never went home but slept there.

    Ela foi embora, o gato pode desaparecer em ambos, qual o sentido dele só conseguir entrar, e não conseguir sair?

    Great movie. I was scared of this movie as a kid because of the button eyes. It reminded me of the La la loopsy dolls. After I watched it years later, I realized that it was not scary, just funny 👍👍👍😱😱😱🤣🤣🤣

    Coraline 3D and Monster House is my sons' favorite movies. He is 11 watched it young. We still had the 3D glasses when he saw it on DVD. So that's probably why he enjoyed it so young.
