What did the Colosseum REALLY look like? Ancient Rome in 3D, virtual reconstruction
Explore the Colosseum as it looked like in ancient Rome, with help of virtual reconstruction! This is a one more step forward of our "Rome in 3D" project, and our goal is to create the most accurate and detailed 3D reconstruction of Eterral City as it was in ancient times.
The Colosseum and the ajacent monuments of ancient Rome will be available soon as VR application, which we're planning to release this year.

Around what year would this video be? Like first, second, third century AD??

@@schuringleon3207 first of all IV century AD, and some objects from Augustus time. Then we will spread the project onto other periods of the roman history.

Indeed yes. I have taught Roman History for 27 years in three countries. These videos make Rome live again. In my heart she has never died.

I think so, in this way we may have material for every monument we can see from you, and also select videos we would like to see, so yeah, but in any way you are doing such an amazing job, anything you will do, it will be appreciated by us anyway :-)

I like short videos too.
that city must have look so damn impressive to all visitors
What they accomplished back then was extraordinary.
Amazing! Have seen/walked around it many times so great to see how it was originally.
I wish they did total reconstruction of Colosseum so it looked as when it was new.

@@wilhelmottodusseldorfbecause we need stuff to be fixable quickly to keep making money construction companies need to make money not only from new buildings but also from repairs, if they make something that will last centuries without needing to be fixed that’s no good business

@@jrviade85you have the right point, wrong reasoning. It’s because it would take several lifetimes to do a complete and proper restoration, which is obviously not profitable to someone who will be dead before they can see it finished.

@@tallcedars2310what gives you that idea? Italy is at the wealthiest point it’s been probably since the Roman’s and there’s not even talk of restoring it
Dudes in togas and sandals were pretty skilled craftsmen
It's absolutely extraordinary, and yes, I'm very much interested in your vídeos, all of them, they are fantastic !
You did a great job!
Thanks for this most beautiful and impressive time travel, another superb video! 😍😍👍👍
Fascinating. Superbly done, thank you 👍
Excellent work!
Amazing, spetacular!!
Amazing!!!
Coloseum in the time of the roman empire was called the flavian ampitheater. It was only relatively recently that it was called the coloseum. It was named that after the colossal statue of nero on the site of the domus auera the area where the ampitheater stands today.
Im excited for this to be turned into an application. I cant wait. Really!

Awesome video! Can you do a view of the under the stage and how to get to the seats? Basically a layout :) Please?
i really want to see a 3d model of the Domus Aurea, with your talent it must be glorious to see.
Wow amazing
Wow! Bellissimo!
Maravilhoso!!!🏆 Incrível!!!🥇 Obrigado por este ótimo vídeo!!! ⚔🏛❤🏛⚔
Should make this a social application where one can walk and fly thru and talk to ppl. Or a COD style free for all area
Very good.
Thank you. It angers me that succeeding generations stole stone from the Colosseum to build whatever forgotten PoS buildings. We have been deprived of a truly great piece of engineering. Still, enough remains that we get a good idea.
Awesome 👍
i love all your videos!!! apparently the colosseum outside was painted red or had red parts but is not fully published yet. It would be amazing if they discovered the paint and you make a video on it!!!

If I recall what I read correctly the red "paint" was some sort of mineral and the main reason their structures have lasted so long
It would be really cool if this 3D virtual city could be populated by people
Mind = Blown
I love this music...
Will you ever publish a model of this to explore?
WOW
Fantástico
when will it be available for the walkthrough?
1:25 the last sight of many men
what are the three smaller doors on the long sides of the arena for, who is coming out of there?
You should make a VR App. I would pay instantly to download it, to see these beautiful remakes on my Oculus Quest 2.

@@historyin3d I'd love it too! I LOVE Ancient civilizations so much. I find myself walking around/exploring games in such worlds, more than I'm playing! I don't have an Oculus Quest though. I have PSVR. I guess getting a PlayStation version wouldn't be an option? :-)
how many meters was the colosseum in length and wide?
The great is Rome!
As a time traveler I can confirm this is correct.
How did they make that roof without steel.
What is the giant bronze statue?
💪👊
keren
And I wonder where all the beautiful statues disappeared to ?
How do you know that the buildings of lesser importance would have had those architectural characteristics? I'm not talking about the famous ones but those reproduced in the images where the architecture is never repetitive.

@@historyin3d To what extent can minor building be found in books, and where starts a certain necessary 'filling in of the gaps'? I love your videos, but maybe you can make an explanatory video, to take away certain doubts or to educate us on what was real and what is fiction. Sometimes I just don't know what I am looking at in that respect.

Colosseum should restore original condition.
Its great CGI work but the dramatic music is so distracting.
Shouldn't there be canvas on the roofing of the Colosseum?

Is it true that Elton John played to Caesar here? My uncle told me but he did drink a lot
Things like this look more beautiful then ugly man modern buildings.
Maybe they should completely rebuild the Colosseum and then let the bad politicians fight tigers. That would be an incentive.
