Your elderly cat's thyroid hormone production is decreased by the drug methimazole. It comes in a number of formats, including pills, liquid, and even a cream that may be rubbed on your cat's ear. It is not, however, a one-time cure. Methimazole administration is a daily commitment, frequently needing twice-day dosages, and routine visits to the veterinarian are necessary to monitor your cat's thyroid levels and modify the dosage as necessary.
However, Methimazole might cause negative effects just like any other drug. These can include problems with the digestive system like nausea and diarrhea as well as liver disorders, blood cell abnormalities, and skin responses. Cats can occasionally experience severe facial deformities.
Let your vet know if your cat is experiencing side effects from methimazole as soon as possible.
