    I am interested in all of these topics, and I am wondering if someone in college can get courses in all of them instead of specializing, so I could get a well rounded not necessarily specialized knowledge in them.

  • @RelearnMath

    @RelearnMath

    Majd Zayyad Yes in college you can take courses in all of them. Just keep in mind that jobs tend to be specialized, let's say the company you want to work for is looking for an RF engineer. Is the company going to hire someone who knows a little about everything or someone who only took the RF classes and thus has more "experience" in the field. Even though all these emphasis fall under the EE umbrella some are very different from others.

    Good overview. Have been working as an EE for over 20 years, I can honestly say there has never been a time when I've regretted my choice of majors. I've worked in Controls as well as Digital for most of my career, but recently I've begun to work in Power related applications. It is an interesting time to be an EE. To all the students out there, I know, undergrad schooling is not easy, but the knowledge you gain will serve you all of your life.

Engineering is just super difficult and it's really frustrating when you're not innately skilled at it and you don't truly love it. I close the control loop with an error amplifier diddle box of variable resistors and capacitors. I run a square wave 100% load. I turn the knobs until the system is critically damped. That is my loop compensation. I disable protection and overload until failure. I improve the part causing primary failure and repeat, repeat, repeat, until it can live with a giant overload. Then I replace the protection. I invoice for mega bucks. I invested in MSFT in 1994, GOOG in 2004, and AMZN in 2011. If you want to get rich, you must act like EE is more like poker than physics.

    Hello, I'm currently a student who's majoring in electrical engineering. I'll be done in around a year or two. My primary concern for electrical engineering is job prospects available to fresh engineers with limited/no experience. Although far from being reputable sources I'm a little apprehensive towards the future as I've read a considerable amount of posts online regarding outsourcing entry level positions to h1b's and general difficulty of finding entry level positions as an electrical engineer (particularly with little work experience). It would of course be helpful to attend job fairs and apply for internships but I've procrastinated in doing so as I'm timid in marketing myself towards companies while still just being a student with very little hands on experience outside of building some basic circuits like wave rectifiers in labs. If nothing else I'd like to hear your point of view because I tend to get mixed messages (i.e. EE is either great or declining). I'm not so much enamored with my pay stub but job stability and the comfort of knowing my skills will be in demand is important to me.

    I am currently going to Southern Maine Community College majoring in engineering. Once I graduate I will attend University of Southern Maine, which is one of two schools in the state that have electrical engineering programs. They offer a concentration in computer science also. My question to you is, what is more in demand between the two? I ask this because I am going to be 50 yrs old when I graduate. I know I am so much older and may have to deal with the realization that I may not be employable because of my age. I also know that many who graduate from the schools here leave Maine to explore opportunities for higher paying jobs. I on the other hand want to stay here. Any advice you can share will be so greatly appreciated.

    I am studying an Electrical Engineering degree and it is mostly centred around the field of power, there is another degree on Electronic Engineering that's more focused on the controls and digital areas (at least that's how it works in my country, I'm not sure if that is universal)

    Hi there, I am a senior in EE and my area of interest is renewable energy, power systems and analog circuitry design. However, as for now it seems that the only good position I can think of is the consulting or electrical designer. Should I agree on that or try to find something more suitable to my passion?

    +Vitali Siumbeli if you know your passion then you should look for positions that match what you described, there are many many positions available related to your passion. For example if you are interested in power systems, there are a ton of positions, are you interested in cars? Well you can work for power system of a car, in planes? Well the same...in the power grid? Well there are also many positions...now that you know your interest look for where you want to apply those interests.
