I appreciate the carbon dating process and find it very interesting. We should be very careful when describing what we are dating. Is it the revealed word of Allah via Uthman’s recension? Or is it an Arabic document of another origin? To ascribe a later narrative onto the early documents is to derive potentially misleading or exaggerated interpretations of the 7th century data.

Radio carbon dating is not a good method to date any historic manuscript because the carbon dating only explaining the dead of the animal or plan that manuscript made off. So, it is not the time the manuscript is written. Most cases the manuscript material is stored for years before it is use for writing on it.

Hello professor, I have been wondering if you could get Zishan Ghaffar as a guest, his work in interpreting the results of historical critical method from a theological point of view for Muslims is very important and insightful, his engagement with revisionists is also very important imo so having him talk about these subjects would be really appreciated

According to Mark Durie, in his book “The Quran and its biblical reflexes”, some of the Saana manuscript fragments date from as early as 433. Now - has Mark Durie lost all of his marbles claiming that the Quran fragments pre-date Muhammad 200 years? Of course, the parchment can be much older than the process of writing - but in that case we can not rely on dating much.

It would be nice just to be given the dates of all the manuscripts. It is good to explain why we need to be cautious but it would be nice to list all the dates in a simple way.

A lot of the stories in the Quran were written decades before 630 AD.

For an "expert" on this topic...he sure does not remember the precise dating range of the manuscripts in question...which is very peculiar to me 👀🧐🤔

Dr Sidky, you wrote a refutation of Dr Jay Smith's materials. He in return wrote a refutation on your refutation of his. I don't see you talking about it.

Dr Smith is not an academician but more appropriately described as an apologist for the Christian faith and a polemicist against Islam. Neither of those things preclude him from being correct in his opinions and perspectives. Investigate and see who is most likely correct. Don’t be lazy and prop up or tear down an idea based on degrees. Respect your own mind and do the work.

@H K Phooey From the IQSA website “Hythem combines expertise in the sciences with a specialization in Qurʾānic manuscripts and reading traditions. He holds an M.S. in applied mathematics and Ph.D. in biomolecular engineering from the University of Notre Dame. Hythem’s dual background allows him to bring together traditional philology and mathematical analysis to study the dynamics and evolution of the Qurʾān in early Islam. He has worked on the stemmatics of Qurʾānic manuscripts, reconstruction of regional oral traditions, and continues to investigate applications of stylometry to the Qurʾān.” Man I really don’t think that this is the equivalent of Jay Smith’s PhD in “Christian apologetics and polemics” lmao.

@hkphooey2123 Hythem is acknowledged by Quranic scholars, Jay Smith isn't. When was the last time IQSA invited Smith to present in their conference? Don't be an idiot.
