Teachings from lectures and discussions on Gender, Critical Race Theory, Liberation Theology, Feminism, Black Lives Matter, Whiteness, and many other topics. The religion of academia is alive and well at BYU. This is what is being taught at Brigham Young University. We are the biggest BYU fans, sports, academics, all of it. But what is happening at BYU is tragic. The professors have conflated the words of the prophets with Critical Social Justice and a radical leftist worldview. The purpose of this episode is awareness.
And BTW, this is only a very small slice of what is going on there.

I don't see that teaching racial equality and the lasting problems that are interwoven into the systems our society depends on is against our doctrine. The book of Mormon doesn't refute this. It doesn't align with your political views. But there are member who also don't share your political views.

As a new-ish member of the Church, I just don’t understand why we aren’t more “of one mind” when it comes to political ideology and the factors that contribute to it. I guarantee you that every single one of the people in this video votes Democrat and calls himself/herself a liberal or a progressive (not the same thing, but still Left). I, on the other hand, become more politically conservative the more I know about the restored gospel. Someone please help me understand this divide. How can we know the same restored truths and yet go in completely different directions, politically?

The wheat and the tares must be allowed to grow together for a time. If you pluck out the tares too early, you'll destroy the wheat as well. This is a pattern that is true individually in our lives (sometimes we just aren't ready for certain commandments so God gives us time to develop) as well as institutionally. There are certainly problems with conservatism as well. Idolizing the state and political leaders (seeking a "king") has been a problem on the right as well as on the left, and conservatives have historically gone back and forth on issues such as wars and supporting corporatism. I think that right now, the sins of the left are more obvious and flagrant, but ultimately, I think as members of the Church, we all should be moving in the direction of promoting freedom, rather than thinking in terms of a specific political party or ideology. Also it's true that the political left does have lots of good goals that we align with in the Church (caring for the poor, being good stewards of the earth, seeking equality), we just disagree on the means of achieving those goals (through a voluntary Zion society versus a coercive government institution). Personally, I've found much more truth in what I guess we would call "libertarianism" today, at least as far as it is a political ideology. The progressives and the conservatives each have their merits and their downfalls. I think ideally we would have a minimal government to maintain peace and freedom, and all other social goals would be achieved through voluntary social arrangements, such as the family, local communities, and the Church.

@bkgoulding That's a really great question you have. I think it all boils down to individual agency and that fact that just because someone has received the truth doesn't mean they will live in harmony with the truth. Remember that one third of heaven rebelled against Heavenly Father. These were our brothers and sisters we knew and loved. It must have truly broken our hearts to have seen them rebel and fall away. Here on earth, remember parable of the ten virgins directly references the members of the church in the latter days. Ten were wise, and ten were foolish. Half of the members of the church will not be prepared for an event or process we will witness in coming days. My heart aches for them as well. The best thing we can do for them is to be an example of following Christ by following His chosen servants.

Greg I can’t thank you enough for exposing this cancer that has sprung up in the church. I began to notice this in lds young adults as much as 25 years ago. What was then along the fringes has now infected even these BYU professors. Sunday I met personally with my stake president to be sure he was aware of this. I think as rank and file members we should contact our ward/stake leaders and even headquarters to let them know of this problem and offering our support at distinguishing it. God bless you Greg! Since satan doesn’t have a body, the best thing to discern a situation or a person is how he/she acts, speaks and thinks. It is not how we feel, it is how we know Him and His teaching. Jesus taught us that the fruit of the Spirit is Love, Joy, Peace, Patient, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-control. @@FromG2eminor it's only divisive because people don't like to acknowledge inequality, it's inherently uncomfortable. Complaining that justice is uncomfortable isnt a reasonable excuse. You're not expected to think less of anyone, just level the playing field through equity. To say that prophets have said social justice isn't of God would be inaccurate, it's thoroughly addressed in the New and Old Testament and Book of Mormon, we just use different terms and frameworks today. The only difference is it focuses on issues specific to those contexts. The law of Moses addresses contemporary social justice issues of the time extensively. There are thousands of years worth of historical and prophetic precedent for this. People are inherently equal in value but examples like the laborers in the vineyard or Christ's healing of the blind man, demonstrate that equity is a necessity to counter injustices. Both of these directly address the discomfort of people who were opposed to the social justice of the time. Social justice has always been an uncomfortable process, it's been divisive at times as for some people as well, but you can't say that it's not a priority, it always has been because it's worthwhile. I don't mean any of this to be personally disparaging towards you, but as someone familiar with most of what they're talking about, it just seems like you're not understanding what they're addressing in its context

Back in the early 90's, BYU had an email server that was open to the general public. They hosted an email list called MORMON-L, which I joined -- assuming, incorrectly, that something with that name from that organization would be an uplifting experience. One of the first messages I got had a subject line of: "How feminism could have saved the Nephites." I did a little research into the list history, and this conversation had been going on for a while, with two camps (pro and con). Being young, dumb, and stupid, I replied with something decidedly CON, and used GenConf quotes and scriptures to back up my points. Bottom line, I said, it was probably those kinds of things that destroyed them. I broke three cardinal rules when debating with the anti-mormon zoobies: 1) I disagreed with them, 2) I quoted actual scriptures, and 3) I quoted General Authorities. After a couple of weeks posting several emails a day in this debate, three well dressed men (30's, give or take), came to my office, and asked the receptionist to call me to the front. She did; I came (no clue who they were). We went outside and they (literally!!!!) threatened my life if I did not stop my posts. No veiled threats (like "something could happen to you"), but a direct threat ("If you keep this up, we WILL hunt you down and kill you!). I then broke a fourth cardinal rule with debating anti-mormon zoobies: I ignored their threats. Instead, I went back to my desk and told the whole list what just happened, and described the three men, as well as the driver of the car waiting for them. I called the police and gave them the license plate of the car. If there is anyone out there who believes this anti rhetoric at BYU is something brand new, let me tell you, it is not. It was already well entrenched by the mid 1990's.

Jesus Christ came the first time as a lamb to free us from both sin (on conditions of repentance) and death. Those were always the most important things from which we need to be saved. He will come again as a lion to free us from both tyranny and persecution---but not the perverted sense of oppression that the Marxists preach. His way is not one of political collectivism, but of free will and moral agency. His way is not one of groupthink and race/class/sex/etc warfare, but one of uniting as individuals around what's true-and-right. His way is not one of pride and enmity and division and contention, but one of humility and charity and unity and peace.

Yes, we do need to establish Zion. The sifting between the two great churches has already begun to divide the tares from the wheat. If I understand correctly, intense persecution will come, but the wicked will ultimately be repulsed and then begin to war amongst themselves. As the wicked cleanse each other from the Earth, even by fire, there will be peace again here in Utah. And we can establish Zion amongst us. Or something like that. Critical theories, from which CRT is derived, is not a legitimate field of study. It is a political framework whose only motivating principle is control. The entire underpinning of the CRT framework is to call everything racist until it is controlled by CRT theoreticians, who are the only enlightened ones that can truly understand racism. I seem to recall something like this in Russia’s Bolshevik Revolution, In China’s “Cultural” Revolution. It is Marxism 3.0, replacing class as the mechanism of oppression with race, or gender, or sexuality. CRT = Criticize until you control

There is a portion that worry me though. had a conversation a few days ago with other students about social media and big tech control. All of them had no problem and even encouraged Government and big tech to be MORE involved in their personal lives when it comes to decision making. No problems with subliminal messaging or anything. And they had no qualms with CRT. Interestingly in my observations the young people that haven’t had to go through much personal testimony searching or any “faith crisis,” or simply some critical thinking have been easily manipulated by the mainstream culture. The more students that ask questions of…”why?” the better. That is in regards to education, cultural, and religious areas. Several young men I know that have always been trained by LDS culture to “turn the other cheek” and “be nice….always” are so afraid of offending people or standing up for their own convictions that when they read something like “how to be an anti-racist” and have a (self-affirming) well spoken professor tell that that it is connected to the gospel…that fully aligns with everything they have been taught already by LDS culture….lucifer is either wiping his brow after having worked extremely hard to get the infiltration into Christian culture he has…..or he is kicking back and laughing at how mind numbingly easy it is has been.

That first question is one I've been asking myself as I've started to become more involved in politics as a young adult. I think activism, when promoting moral causes (like liberty, equal treatment and opportunity, righteousness, etc.) is a good thing that we can (or even should) be involved in as Christians. But at the same time, there are varying scriptural accounts on the topic. Captain Moroni was an activist and military leader, but the people of Alma were told to be submissive. Joshua led the Israelites to conquer the land, but Christ didn't lead the Zealots to overthrow the Romans. I get really frustrated sometimes at the mild-seeming response of the Church to the scary events going on in the world, including blatant and unapologetic tyranny. But I'm trying to trust that there's something I'm not seeing from the Lord's perspective. And even if the Church isn't acting institutionally, I don't think that excuses me from acting when I can to push back against bad policy or culture. What do you think?

I watched this videeo all the way throughand here and I still would defend the school, the leaders, the church and the ability for these 5-6 academics to voice their opinions...even if it does hover around CRT. I have 3 kids going there now (2 on missions that are deferred) I am a minority (brown guy) member who graduated from BYU Provo in the 90's with a business degree and I believe that these clips should be kept in context. 1-specific courses (which I never took in my management curericulum path), 2-clips within a lecture which can be taken out of context (which is a tactic done in politics and media), 3-some speakers are visiting lecturers who have very different religous and/or political views. Just because BYU is a mostly-white school doesn't mean that it is full on racist. (They are weird though and sometimes arrogant in the bubble of Provo, don't get me wrong on that. LOL!) And just because "the world" has a very different view, does not mean that we can't have dialogue and lectures that aim to understand what is going on out there. I walked those sidewalks and halls buildings in the 1990's listening to Pubic Enemy, X-clan and KRS 1 on my headphones, but I didn't sense that the predominant color of people on campus was "out to get me" or "holding me back". (I must say that PE, X-Clan and KRS 1 had an even more radical message back then compared to what CRT does even now...but the music is great. I'm just amazed that yt hasn't sensored them because of their race content.) BYU is a unique and special place to go to school. I now teach at a university in the Midwest and I am grateful to send my kids to a place where CRT issues in classrooms are the disputed topic compared to mine (with rape, school shootings, mass-drunkeness and student/police riots). My concerns about BYU students are STILL centered around their ability to keep the commandments and their covenants with God, and repent from their sins when they fall or are prideful. I've been thinking about this situation.... Which both saddens me and makes me a little nauseated. First of all, I firmly believe that if Jesus Christ wanted the world to be involved with CRT, He would have brought it forth through His prophets. It amazes me that these teachers of our children, are seeking to influence them away from the true gospel. They want these kids to share their testimony. I suppose a testimony can come from anything one believes in. But when it comes to the church, and church schools, one should be seeking to build their and others testimony on truth. To seek the truth about Christ. Secondly, I believe that the way CRT was brought about, and is being taught, is Satan's counterfeit to the gospel. There may be a truth or two in the book this comes from, but it's purpose is to gradually lead people away from the love of God. Third, speaking of that, I don't know why people don't see that just living the first two commandments would bring us to treating EVERYONE as God's children. No one would be labeled, belittled, or segregated. Seems pretty simple to me. All their "wordiness" of these instructors, takes away from the simpleness. I just had to put this out there. Maybe someone else has already said this. If so, thank you. Thank you all for standing up for Christ.

When I was 7, a family friend spoke derogatorily of colored people. I didn't even know racism excited because my parents befriended blacks with love and respect. I grabbed a sheet of paper and held it against this woman's arm and told her she wasn't white, that she was a tan color. Is it possible that Pharisees of our day have degrees instead of political clout, and haughty language instead of expensive headdresses and clothing.... The real danger here is that the Pharisees preached a Messiah that would demand justice and freedom from their political oppression. So much so that when the Messiah came, he was not even recognized, and his apostles were rejected.... If Gen Z is looking for a Jesus that promises freedom from racial oppression instead of freedom from their own sins, they risk missing Him when he is present, they risk rejecting his disciples. Of course Jesus wants racial equity, that is so apparent it does not even really need to be mentioned, but He does not promise it in this life, He promises us freedom from THE oppressor... this thought has already been taught on your channel but it hit me real hard today. Let's pray these kids have parents and leaders that are more influential than these teachers.
