In my pinchasing days, before a league started I once set every machine have only the 5, 7, and 10 pins in cups. There were usually no pins on the lanes when the machines were turned on and while some would just throw a first practice ball with no pins, many would cycle them, expecting there to become a full rack. There was endless groaning when the machines only spotted those pins. Yes, there were expletives....

I lived right next door when I was 10 years old working as a ashtray and plastic score card cleaner at Continental Lanes in Roseville Michigan in the 60's. I ended up migrating to doing mechanic work by hanging behind the lanes with the mechanics. The 82-30 is where I cut my mechanical teeth. My job originally was to free the incessant ball return jams. I moved up the ranks to eventually clearing Blackouts and sweep jams. I did this for 3 years, including doing the mopping of the lanes and running the oil machines. It was the best part of my life looking back. No one cared about insurance or a kid literally climbing all over the machines. My so called graduation was cleaning all the contacts and relays in the "brain" and testing it. One note, the scariest things about these machines was when a pin would get jammed in the Pin Pickup ring and fire out the back like a missile. They would actually crack the block wall from the impact. We had 54 Lanes and kept pretty busy.

@@Joethepro181 About 30 years ago, I worked at a 52 lane center that had 14 30's and 38 70's. There had to be about 40 years of nicotine on them. I didn't have the talent to remove them, so I just wiped them down with a rag and degreaser. The mgr was impressed.... I put myself through college working there. I still think of pinchasing at a center, but I already have a career and a great p/t job. So I'll just keep bowling LOL.

What-how does the sweep drop ? I'm a brunswick guy fascinated by amf. Too much electrical going on with amf versus the A2.

There’s a sensor in front of the masking unit post that sends a beam across the lane, when the beam is broken it cycles… the cycle timing is also based on the ball speed(If there’s a really slow ball then it won’t cycle as fast)
