What Are You Waiting For?

Father Josiah Trenham
Our Newest Lecture Series:
Demonology: Understanding & Winning the Spiritual Battle
The study of the Church’s demonology is a part of basic catechism and Christian instruction. The Scriptures are replete with teaching on the dark powers. Additionally, it is impossible to appreciate the magnitude of the saving deeds of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, without understanding how He, and He alone, has conquered Satan and destroyed his works. Lastly, Christians are called to fight and win in the spiritual war, and for this reason, it is essential that believers understand their enemies and their tactics. Toward this end, Father Josiah presents in these lectures in-depth studies of the Scriptures, Divine Services, and pedagogy of great saints and teachers on the subject of Satan and spiritual battle.
Lecture titles include:
Lecture #1 Jesus and Satan
Lecture #2 Demonology in the Baptismal Rite and the Divine Liturgy
Lecture #3 Gaining Mastery of Satan: The Life of St. Anthony the Great
Lecture #4 How to Win the Spiritual Battle according to St. John of the Ladder
Lecture #5 Engaging the Unseen Warfare: Fr. Lorenzo Scupoli and St. Nicodemos of the Holy Mountain
Lecture #6 C. S. Lewis’ Screwtape Letters and Demonic Warfare in the 21st Century Falling West

Thank you SO very much Father...for all you ministry to His Church and Bride. I read R&S as a Reformed PCA/Elder & CREC inquirer, & many podcast (Chrismated H-Sat 2014) before This excellent one. Your Already...then Not-Yet Waiting is excellent...Well Done! YET...I kept waiting for you to lay out Rm 8:18-25 for us! ;-) This passage became daily/memorized & dear to my grief/yearning since my dear wife Debbie of 47-yrs reposed 11/17/2022 (5 yrs HS/College sweetheart! 8-Kids/20-grands!) I love how the Apostle begins with our sufferings With the Creation...then to Us -- groaning/yearning..."for the Adoption, the Res of the Body! But then to your point, and our Hope wrap-up: "But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance!" How wonderful is that...for Your reflection!!! Maybe a quick Addendum is in order here!? Bless and Keep you thriving in His tender mercies Father.

Thank you Father. While listening it occured to me that there is also a parallel with Creation - just as Christ created the world and invited us to fulfil it by bringing the world beyond Eden under dominion, so too He created a new Way, inviting us to embody it. Would you agree?

Much respect for your teachings. When I listened to this, a few night ago, I made a note. There is something called the "Mandela effect". And it is changing bible verses. The Lion laying down with the Lamb, as you say at 9.15 minutes, has been changed to the Wolf. I am so glad to hear you use the original version. It confirms, for me, that those of us who are older, remember that version. ❤

Hello, father! Miguel here from Portugal. God bless you and keep you. I was just listening to your exposition on the rapture and I was left with this doubt: satan was bound and thrown into the bottomless pit for a thousand years after Jesus conquered death on the cross. Satan couldn't deceive the nations during that time. So, are we currently in those one thousand years with satan released and under his deceit now?

I think it appears more splintered from the outside than you would experience inside a local church. For example, I have a Greek church near me that I visited several times before becoming a catechumen. They host a greek festival every year and the greek people there do seem to embrace their cultural background. However, they say the Lord’s prayer in about 7 or more languages, and not being greek myself I did feel very welcome there. Hope that helps! You should see what churches are in your local area

Allegories and parable are timeless in time called vanities looking and waiting for whats in man asleep to Spirit flesh thinks dead. ”We will take a simple little verse and show you why it is not addressed to the natural man, Ecclesiastes 3:15: “That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been; and God seeks what has been driven away.” The “natural man” cannot grasp that, for to him reality is based only on the evidence of the senses. The man of reason could justify the verse’s end, saying if it has any meaning then the writer must mean recurrence. The sun comes every day and the moon completes its cycle and the seasons come and go. If we took a picture of the universe today, the scientists can compute how long it will take to return to this point in the picture. So the intellectual man could justify the verse; but that is not what is meant, for it is addressed not to the man of reason or the man of sense, but to the man of Imagination. What is it all about? “That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been, and God seeks what has been driven away.”

@@nullclass0813 I am no scholar but yes and yes. I believe the Eastern Orthodox Church is “The True and Original Body of Jesus Christ” which the Father sent the Holy Spirit to fill the Jewish followers of Christ in the upper room as Jesus told them to wait for so they could preach the gospel in different tongues (languages) on the day of Pentecost to their non believing Jews as written in the book Acts chapter 2. It is the Church complete with all the gifts given by the Holy Spirit, which has continued on in for the last 2000 years and will last forever. I know this is hard to believe, as it was for me and many outsiders and skeptics but if you ask God and study history you will eventually come to this knowledge and certainty. Glory be to God for He never left us nor has forsaken us. He is faithful and true! And the gates of Hell have not or ever will prevail against it! Amen 🙏
