@Scout887 I agree with you. Balance is key. Giving in to urges and impulses whenever they show up, without any self-control, is destructive, though. It creates a false sense of satisfaction. I am convinced that the "emptiness" is a product of the lack of self-sacrifice, self-discipline and responsibility. The reason this is sorely lacking in today's society, is because those things are difficult, and uncomfortable. People need to choose between comfort and fulfillment; and one is easier than the other... at first.

@@Scout887 To be fair, whether or not you're tired of restraint is probably the last thing that should matter. I'm sure a smoker or alcoholic gets tired of their attempts to quit their habit extremely quickly, and that tiredness is directly counter to what's better for them. It's counter to what they want, even. People should feel compelled to pursue what is best for them and what they want for their lives even when the road is hard and even when they grow tired of trying.

I’m currently working on myself, I’m understanding it’s a life long journey. I’m coming to realize pleasure doesn’t bring happiness. Sacrifice, doing the hard things (especially when you don’t feel like doing it), being patient, and saying no is so crucial to genuine happiness. I’m now sober and the only thing that took me away from alcohol is going on a journey. Finding something that’s more important than immediate gratification. We all have dragons and demons. Slaying it once isn’t enough. Be bold, be brave, take the world head on, find out who you really are. Take the person you can become and live it out. The light is on the other side of darkness.

There are 3 groups of goals involved in the power process. Group 1, goals that can be attained with minimal effort. 2, goals that can be attained only with extreme effort. 3, goals that cannot be attained no matter how much effort is put forth. The power process is the act of working towards goals in the second group. The more goals there are in group 3(climate crisis, government/economy, etc.) the more the individual is frustrated. A similar phenomenon occurs when too many goals are in group 1.

Honestly we are often missing a connection with our self and we are always trying to fill “a void” with “stuff” when really sitting with that space, that is a part of us, is what we are lacking connection with. A deeper unacknowledged piece of ourselves that yearns to be felt and heard and just sat with for a time, every now and then. Sometimes we need us also…. We don’t always need others sometimes we just need ourselves.

  • @MariamYasserArt

Something that helps me is, whenever I feel this need for something I need to stop, food for example (I struggle with unhealthy food habits). Whenever I feel like eating more than needed or so, I try to stop for a sec, try to identify my emotions, am I hungry, am I sad, am I nervous? Will eating this thing help this emotion or am I just going for food because I'm so used to this easy solution. What else can I do to fix this instead of food? I won't tell myself go eat a carrot I instead. Because that ain't happening. I convince myself to do something as fun. I find that the hardest part is the first pause and thinking of why I feel this need right now. Because that is the part I always forget about. But once I recognize my current mood, my current emotion it is easier to find alternative solutions other than the habit I need to stop God Bless you!

I let go of everything. No home. No relationships. No vehicle. The only time o feel anything like emptiness, now, is when I look to closely at the rest of humanity. I'm trying very hard to have something akin to faith in us all. But I always have the feeling that there is a chance of us destroying ourselves or possibly moving on from our current situation. The scary thing that keeps me up is that we will keep repeating the same cycle that we seem to be locked in now.
