What are you doing eBay!

What is eBay doing!? We seem to be having glitches and problems galore on eBay at the moment. I also was condensing some of my shelves and checking the inventory SKU's and have a large amount of listings that are no longer even listed. Has this happened to you? Have your listings vanished? Are you also having any weird glitches on eBay lately? Share them below if you are. Stay around also and check out what sold as I pack my orders today. Thank you for watching!

Repeat Buyers: we have noticed that when a buyer purchases more then 1 item at the same time, the eBay software will show Repeat Buyer, even if this was the first day they have purchased from us.

Mel. A good rule of thumb is to go through all your listings if it's over 6 months. If it's not sold by that 8 months. Because after 8 months eBay has a policy of this thing and getting rid of all listings that are older than 8 months. So I was told when I asked eBay about my listings going away that's why you should go and do the restock of everything that's older than 6 months. I hope this helps you.

Hi Mel, editing old listings and making some tweaks does help boost and get them back in eBay’s search results, it’s good practice to do this regularly

Most business do a yearly inventory stock count but to keep track of inventory they do a cycle count. Like you said. 1 shelve a day, business will count what is on the shelve and make sure the count is right. Doing 1 shelve a day or a week could really help your business.

What works for me is downloading the eBay Orders Report and setting the time frame to a year prior. Import that into a google spreadsheet and then do your stocktake off your phone rather than lugging the inventory around. Also backing up all photos on an external hard drive in folders based on SKUS or dates will save countless hours of double handling, hope that helps

Wonderful to see you back in your warehouse. It's always interesting to see what's been selling. It's fascinating how some titles sell well for some sellers and not for others. I'm going to swim against the flow here and say that I'm not a fan of big discounts or taking 50% offers regardless of how I sourced the stock. Having been in bricks and mortar business, I experienced first hand how having a fire sale approach can damage the expectation of return customers. This business model had been adopted by the previous owner when sales were declining. I would never expect to pay anything like full price again if a seller accepted my offer of 50% of the asking price. I'd prefer to price more reasonably, at least then if I did accept a lowball offer the percentage wouldn't be as great. I totally understand the urge to aim for the stars with unusual or rare items when pricing. I also understand that your bundle of magazines might have remained on the shelf indefinitely however, I would prefer to cull a bundle of stock that cost me nothing to acquire than sell myself short in terms of offers I'll accept on higher end items. As a seller, I'm also not a fan of ongoing/permanent coupons and sales as it makes me feel that the seller is overpriced. As consumers we know not to shop at certain retailers for big ticket items (unless forced to eg. fridge dies) this week because in a couple of weeks they'll be on sale again. I get that many of those retailers are very successful but they also have considerably less competition than we do as secondhand booksellers on ebay. As a consumer, yes I've availed myself of coupons and offers on ebay, and indeed in your shop, but only because it worked out that way. I only bought books I wanted and would have bought them anyway. Just one perspective and people need to do it their way of course. As long as our bottom line is good, we'll do what works best for us. Some time back, I moved to a listing date SKU system. I think Technsports showed us this? I find this method really useful for stocktaking and try to do a shelf or two a week to keep things up to date. Might be useful info for someone.

22:24 Hey Mel, full time art book seller on ebay here from Germany. Yeah, we had the same slow loading time on the active listings pages here about 7 to 10 days ago. Lasted for two days but only for shop owners. Annoyed me to no end 😂 Also the „darker“ fotography books you mentioned (I call them sexy books) sell well. I got extremely lucky yesterday browsing my newest box full of books from one of my storages. Found a rare and highly sought-after sexy book that will realistically sell for 2500€. Will try to prep it soon for auction. so, fotography art books are true bolos. Stay warm there, sweetling 🤙💖

You're right about the "glitches" on eBay right now Mel. My wife is experiencing one right now on her account where whenever she does a store "refresh" eBay is wanting to charge her for "insertion fees" at .30 cents a listing. It's crazy! She shouldn't be charged anything just to refresh her store. We have brought the issue to eBay for business (on Facebook) . They have sent a ticket to their tech people but also told us they have no idea how long it will take to fix this problem.

I know it would be a lot of re-organizing, but perhaps you would be better off sorting the books by size (Including the grouped ones) and using sorted sku numbers. Paperbacks VS Standard hardbacks. This works well for a different seller, but they sell Jeans that condense way easier. But, I thought I'd suggest it. Your channel is great!

I've heard other people say items do just drop off after being listed without activity for a long time. You might just make a habit of ending the listing of a certain number of your oldest listings each week. Then relist them using sell similar making sure to revise them somewhat by updating the description, price, or other characteristics. Won't take much time, supposedly it is considered a new listing by their algorithm and saves you a lot of issues and time in the long run.

😊 Hey Mel, I don’t know if you have list perfectly or vendoo in Australia, but I think it might be something that would benefit you. I have list perfectly and when I do inventory and there’s listings that are missing off of eBay…. those listings are kept in list perfectly for me so I don’t have to retake those photos. The last time I checked inventory, I had 23 items that weren’t listed anymore and fortunately all 23 were in list perfectly so I just had to relist them through there without having to take new photos. Especially since you have a lot more items in your store than I do, this may be something that will benefit you in the long run. The price that you pay for that will be worth it compared to the amount of time it’s gonna take you to have to photograph and relist those.

Whenever you have someone cancel or not pay, you need to take that listing and do a sell similar. The original listing will no longer be listed, but when you sell similar it will create a brand new listing. Also you need to go through your listings and anything that has been listed for 7 months or more, end them and do a sell similar. You have to be careful not to go over your monthly free listing count. If you do this I guarantee a lot of your old listings will sell. Also it will give you a chance to see if there is anything you need to change or update on those listings. Anything that is over 6 months old will get pushed down in the rankings and eventually disappear. Databases only have so much room. New listings take priority over old.

hi mel I have a small store but I have to do a stock take twice a year and I ALWAYs find items that are not listed. I break my stocktake down into 1 shelf at a time and do as many shelves as works into my day. My sku has shelf and rack on it so I do a search in my inventory just for that particular shelf and and make sure that I have everything listed that is on that shelf. It does work and helps me to keep things up to date. Plus I also do find books listed in the inventory using that sku search that have already sold they still appear in my stock. I know that is another ebay glitch, as its happened a couple of times a year where my sold items stay live in my store and I never know its happened until I sell the item and its not there. That's often when I do my stock take and lo and behold I find all sorts of errors and in all truthfulness most of them are ebay glitches and not my errors

I am on a buying freeze until I complete a full stocktake of 5000 plus items. Spent Sunday doing my clothing tubs and already have enough stock for my 30/day. Think I'll be able to keep my store stocked for a few months. Downloaded a fresh spreadsheet of listings and marking them off as I go so got a bit of a system 🏃‍♂️ running. Pain in the bum but also a money, space and time saver not having to source for a while.

Make sure that you date the shelves that you went through that way you know the last time you checked them. Try to do one shelf a day and you will get through them quickly. Fresh eyes on your Inventory and you will sell a lot more and create more room for fresh books. Good luck hope it increases SALES!!

Yep I had the vanishing listings a few months back. I only have about 700 listings and maybe 200 of those are books. A few times I’d view my shop and think - that doesn’t look like enough books - or - why are my book sales so sad. Did a stocktake and about a third had disappeared ! Frustrating when you put all that effort in and they weren’t even in my ended listings anymore so had to re-do them from scratch. Grrr. Just another thing to keep an eye on. I can’t imagine the huge job it would be for sellers with thousands of listings.

Hi Mel, been doing the same over the weekend.... consolidating ... finding 'extra' listings?? go figure. Get yourself a small cheap Laser Printer at Officeworks ... around $139 for a Brother. They are handy to have around plus the sample Toner that you get with them lasts a while also (well mine did).

Mel. I’ve been watching you for around a year & you inspire me. Question…do you think books and magazines go for more in Australia than the US? I watched where you got $50 for those magazines (I get them free too) and I was astounded by that. I authentically want to know. Some of the books you sell for big $ that I have listed have comps at a fraction of the cost of what you get. I look forward to your perspective. 😊

I think we have different markets and we have different competition. In Australian the main platform is eBay. We don’t really compete with Amazon here yet.

Hey 👋 lol Idk if this will help you guys at all but Rasputins music is moving locations in my area and CD’s are selling for 50cents at their old location in Concord, CA, US. I was thinking you or Tom could contact them and maybe see if you can buy bulk or lots full if you contacted them. Not sure what they’ll say though to be honest. Considering the CDs are so cheap it might help balance out the shipping costs. Found a bunch of PlayStation games for 50 cents. I was stoked lol

We list on two places, and bigger items we use fb marketplace... items we don't want to ship because it's too expensive! Have a great week 😀! Joe Bee 🐝 from 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 Canada! 😊 Sai hi to Thom! K

If you keep a jug of vinegar in the shop, it'll help with the odor in the trash can. Just pour it in the can, let it soak a bit & then dump it outside & turn it upside-down to dry out for when you return.

I’ve had this issue for over a year now. I pulled down a box looking for an item and noticed a few items that I was blown away hasn’t sold. So I looked them up in my inventory and they weren’t there. No listings. So over the last year I’ve found about 100 listings were gone

I go through my stuff and do inventory all the time and find stuff missing that i've listed.. Some times I think when I do end and resell similar I accidently delete the item without listing it. Other times the items disappear and I remember listing then a while back. I have to go and relist it again. Ebay I think Ebay's database is losing date due to age. It could be why their site is so glitchy at time too, Ebay glitches has been a normal thing for me for the past year or 2.

@@backfromburnout I've had so many items gone missing from my listings over time that I got used to doing that. Also I find that the value of my listings doesn't seem to go up as quickly as it should. Last year I was wondering why so many items weren't selling and then checked them to find them missing. I have my videogames, dvds all up to date ..... books could take a while though and I know there is many books missing from my listings because they keep shrinking and they are not selling as quickly as i'd like. By the way, since I now have access to a place where I can get books for 3 for $1 for all books at this place i'm not looking for books to help me build big bundles of books. I'm looking forward to seeing your future video on bundling books. It might give me some ideas. My problem with selling books is the high shipping prices on items that are thinker then DVD. Bundling lots of books together might sell lots of books for me. In that cheap book store i've found some really good books including one that had $75 CND value one time. Now I just need to learn what books that are wroth getting here that I can bundle.

$1 each I think the mags were. Some will be worth more than others. Some of these will sell individually and some will be bundled. I’ll need to individually comp each one of these ones as some are more collectible then others.
