Most people in England live in cities. I'm sure we can agree though is one diet children should never be feed is that of the BBC news and propaganda.

Totally agree, the handful we did as a part of "Design & Technology" were fun and the food tasted great. I haven't made a Victoria sponge that has tasted like that since sadly... If your kids ever make something they love at school you should get them to save the recipe cause I didn't save it and my school was demolished a little over 10 years ago... So I'm not likely to see that recipe again.

I remember a friend who eats only unhealthy processed foods, be it take aways, KFC, ready meals and canned foods. She wasn't even visibly obese or too overweight, just average, and is from a low income household too. It's such an incredibly unhealthy way of life and unfortunately I do believe there is a huge correlation between poverty/mental health issues and poor diet. Instead of shaming people for eating unhealthy, let's tackle the core issues, including poverty and mental health issues in our society. But I'm not holding my breath to see if the government will properly tackle these issues other than making a lazy advert "eat your 5 a day"

Is it really a poverty issue? Cause a KFC meal will cost you 3x more than if you made it yourself, 2 chicken sandwiches is $12 USD (it's the only thing I eat there), that's not poverty food. I can make McDonalds equivalent meal for half the price and it's waaay better. All big chain fast food is expensive. I saw 2 days ago a minority couple giving their 6-7 month old baby a Gatorade, Gatorade is expensive, pop is expensive, water is pretty cheap. You can blame obesity, heart disease and diabetes in minority population on poverty but you're kinda blaming the wrong thing.

@@JayUnarmed I used to have the same opinion as you until I realized that it is very stupid and insensitive. Being poor engenders mental health issues, fatigue and much more. Many poor people consume processed foods as comfort food because of the emotional toll and stress poverty causes. Poor people also tend to have the most laborious and physical jobs, so don't expect them to be ready to make nice home-cooked meals all the time instead of going for easy and comfort food. Having the time and energy to cook healthy and varied meals is also a privilege which the wealthier have plenty of. Please show understanding and drop that unhelpful Marie-Antoinette attitude. As for KFC, my friend was a teenager with her parents barely at home, she isn't going to buy ingredients after school to make friggin homemade fried chicken.

You might need new friends. Now that I eat healthy, everyone including my family thinks I am stuck up, paranoid, taking things too seriously. They feel judged when I decline certain foods that they are eating. It is socially very difficult to eat well. Also, I feel jealous of them. They spend way less time cooking and get to just eat whatever they feel like whenever they feel like it. Being around people who are eating all that stuff makes eating healthy really hard as well.

How do we want to sort this out when our kids are eating what they eat at school? I'm Spanish, I have had lunch at school and never ever (with the exception of the day before Christmas holidays start) had sugary desserts (and this is just an example). Dessert was fruit or plain yoghurt. I look at my children menu at school and I'm just horrified about the lack of eggs, fruit, vegetables, legumes. My oldest has started asking me for squash which is a no no, it doesn't matter if it doesn't have sugar, still is something artificial and unnecessary. This September he will take his lunch box.

Sorry to here that. A pot noodle is £1.00. Making up a salad costs more. I think mum is watching the pennies, but doesn't realise that the pot noodle is killing you with all the preservatives and additives. Sit with her and have a chat and let mum know that for you to be healthy and concentrate at school your brain and body needs healthy food. Perhaps a few times a week she can swap the junk food for a healthy ones.
