both of my dogs (german shepherd and border collie) are the fastest when they hear my kid go to the kitchen and open the fridge door. specially when they know he's getting cheese

Boston Terrier’s aren’t very fast but their ability to change direction and maneuver around things is pretty awesome. Plus they’re naturally a hyped-up breed. Just a blast to play with in an open space. They’ll kick your butt!

I am not convinced on these stats. I walk a Whippet and Jack Russel together. The Whippet leaves the JR for dust when I throw the ball for them (they both love their balls.) According to this the JR terrier is faster. JRs are stubborn and focused on getting small things and not letting them go.

I walk a whippet and JR together. The whippet leaves the JR for dust. This list is utter nonsense.

There are sprinters with many short twitch muscles that run very fast for short distances like the Greyhound; there are also long distance runners with many long twitch muscles that run very fast over long distances like the German Shepherd and I'm sure many others.

My chihuahua is so fast and I can barley get her if she accidentally gets out of her leash

My chubby lab takes 30 minutes to cover 10 metre😂😂

My CAO top speed is in range of 50-60km/h. Much faster then I would expect from a big dog. He's really quick. Considering the size, mass of 50kg at the speed he has it's a rocket.

Labs only 25mph? Depends on the lab. English vs American makes a huge difference. My American lab whips every dog in the dog park except the grey hounds. The English labs are much slower. I've never clocked my girl running. I've just seen her outrun many of the dogs you list as being faster than labs. She is very lean. Some people have even asked me if she was a lab/grey hound mix but she is pure lab.

Same. I have a golden retriever, an English "show" Lab, and an English "field" Lab. The field lab outclasses most of the collies in her flyball team, runs like a whippet and can do it for hours, the show Lab doesn't even attempt to go for a ball if she sees the field Lab set off for it.

We own a Jack Russell (female) and our male French bulldog is surprisingly faster. Both same age. I have also worked with dogs in the past, and many of the larger breeds that are ranked below the Jack Russell on this list run definitely faster.

Yeah I think this is one of those urban myths,. I notice that JRTs are listed at speeds far above what seems reasonable in many fastest dogs lists. There's a video of a guy clocking his JRT with an ATV at about 40 kmh which is just under 25 mph. That's pretty fast for a small dog but a lot of other dogs can for sure run faster.

Yeah, plenty of Jack Russel terriers around here. They are superactive dogs that tend to like running a lot. They also have a funny run because it looks like they are doing constant small leaps.... but it seems that at full sprint they can hardly keep up with my collie keeping a relaxed pace. They have the intensity but their particular anatomy is not built for speed. They are just fast for a small dog.

I too had a Jack Russell and even though his legs were short, his speed and agility were startling. If he got out, there was no catching him. He would walk up to strangers and I would yell "GRAB HIM" which they just scooped him up and handed him over. And I would berate him all the way home but he just didn't care. Then I noticed he was somehow getting out of the back yard. I could not find a hole or anyway he was accomplishing that. So I hid and watched him. He would run and jump until all four legs were in the chain link fence and he would scale it like a ladder! But it was only to get out. He would not do it to get back in. Little bastard was clever!

Whomever put together this list has obviously never seen a dog run. Most of "the fastest" dogs listed would never attain these speeds. I have raced dogs all my adult life and can state with some certainty that race bred greyhounds are the fastest with Whippets coming a close second.

You need to see a Saluki run, bred to hunt gazelle in the desert. Incredible speed, lighter than a Greyhound and leaves a Whippet eating dust. I’ve had sighthounds all my life Go watch some clips

@@ianbromley7218 I've seen plenty of Salukis run and they have boundless stamina and would leave Greyhounds and Whippets dead in the ditch in this respect. Basically a Saluki is capable of running great distances at sustained but low speed. There top speed is nowhere near that of a Greyhound or Whippet. A coursing bred whippet will have more stamina than a Greyhound. I stand by my claim.

I've had all three of tge hounds you mention. When living in Dubai, I've seen Saluki chase SUV's across the desert, they can reach and maintain 40mph.

My sister's dogs are a mix between Belgian malinois and Spanish "Grey hound"(podenco). They are very fast (and very cute

I have a jack russell well he’s old now but he loves to have fun too he is fast.

Number 1: My 14 year old turbo mixed breed pup, a bit overweight and with short legs when it hears I'm eating something ;-)

I think the jack russell has it kmh value on his mph value. Individual variations matters a lot, had a great dane couple, male was a bull, the lady was lean, and she vaporized distances with no effort.

@@greyhoundish People normally say the opposite when comparing Cheetah’s speed to that of a greyhound. They say the Greyhound’s lungs allow for him to maintain his speed longer while a Cheetah’s speed is in short bursts

@@Himothy98 compare to cheetah, greyhound can keep their speed much longer as they have the largest heart relative to it's body size than any other canines.

I did a test with my friend's Kangal, which was running next to my car on the village road, it reached 60 KMH 😂😅

I kinda have a hard time believing a poodle can run faster than a husky. I have a husky mix and she has a good friend whose a poodle who they play together often and she can easily outrun her and every dog in the field, even when she’s not going full speed. And she’s really small for a husky too

A "standard" poodle is a pretty large dog. About as large or even larger than your Husky mix. The name is a bit of a misnomer since they are far and away the rarest size of poodle.

I own a Saluki. Don't get fooled by the "they are only sprinters" Salukis have both the speed and endurance. He can galop for a long time at pretty high speed and then turn it into sprint. Also I don't think I will ever own a different dog breed other than sighthounds. They are just a love on a first sight. (I owned husky too, they can surely endure a lot)

The funny thing about this is I have two husky’s and they escape the fence a lot but we were able to train them to not leave the neighborhood so now they just escape the yard just so we can chase them around the circle for hours then they go back inside😂

My back yard is 150' wide. I've seen my female lab go from fence line to fence line in well under 4 seconds that would put her in the high 20s for speed.

For the first few seconds I thought that's how fast they breed at so many km/h lol 😂🤣🤣

I run 17kmh and my dachshund I reckon runs about 20kmh and i thought that was fast.

I have a white female husky and in open space she catch a cat but she dont want to bite her just chrash into. What a crazy dog.

I pre-guessed Saluki, completely forgetting the greyhound. Yes, my Rottis are slower than most...

You never mentioned Bouvier's I had to pass my dog doing 45 miles an hour

I have a Thai Ridgeback, and he runs like a horse, by that I mean his gait. The fastest dog I've had, much faster than a German Shepherd.

I have Rhodesian Ridgebacks... and they will outrun and outlast most, if not all on this list!

I have a golden retriever and sometimes I would race with her on my bike and it turns out I as a pro rider still don't stand a chance against my golden. In fact, it can surpass me even if I have a head-start. That just proves how fast dogs are

My Boxer was pretty fast

I own a jack russell and now I know why I can’t beat him in a race

I had a German Shorthair Pointer who was very fast, none of the other dogs at the park could beat him to a slung tennis ball. He was big for a GSP and had long legs, he was fast even for a GSP. Only a Greyhound could beat him.

Other than the other dogs listed as fast, or faster than it. Of course there are always gonna be outliers. There were competitions and not always the higher on the ranking list won.

You need to check your sources. One site copied and made assumptions after looking at a AKC post several years ago as they didnt know that the Russell Terrier is separate breed from the Jack Russell terrier and assumed it was an error and took out the Border Terrier as they had not heard of it. Evevry other site has copied this instead of check the orginal source. The fastest terrier is the Border Terrier at 38mph( the smallest of the long legged terriers) followed by Russell Terrier at 37mpg (a long legged terrier derived from the same ancestor as the Jack Russell terrier and recognised as separate breed now) according to AKC

I own an English labrador, she’s pretty slow in comparison to other dogs, the body shape doesn’t do them any favor on that matter (long torso, short legs, and stocky even when healthy).

This is not complete until Chippiparai, Mudhol hound and Rampur Hound; Indian equivalents of grey hound! Combat runs around 50-55 kmph
