What Are the Differences Between Amitabha Buddha And Other Buddhas?
💫In the endless Dharma Realm, the number of Buddhas is uncountable. There are also many Buddhas who have a karmic connection with us, such as Shakyamuni Buddha and Medicine Buddha. Among all these Buddhas, only Amitabha Buddha is called the King of all Buddhas👑. Why is Amitabha Buddha different from other Buddhas?
🔸First, Amitabha Buddha is a Buddha whose vow has the greatest power in the entire Dharma Realm. All Buddhas of all the universes made great vows to deliver sentient beings, such as Medicines Buddha who made twelve great vows, and Shakyamuni Buddha who made five hundred great vows.
In one of his 48 great vows, Amitabha promised to establish the Land of Bliss to benefit sentient beings of the nine Dharma realms. No matter whether a person is good or bad, wise or slow-witted, as long as he recites Amitabha’s Name, he can be reborn in Amitabha’s Pure Land, and can speed up his achievement of Buddhahood there. Such a great vow was never made by any other Buddha of any universe, so Amitabha’s vow is the deepest, the broadest, the greatest and the strongest among all Buddhas.
🔸Second, Amitabha Buddha is a Buddha who delivers sentient beings. Buddhas of all the universes also help sentient beings to be delivered; but they only indicate the method that sentient beings must practice with vigour in order to be liberated from the Six Realms, and achieve Buddhahood. So, basically speaking, they are self-liberated, or liberated through self-powered practices.
On the other hand, Amitabha Buddha’s deliverance is really effective and complete. Sentient beings need only recite Amitabha’s Name, and they can be liberated instantly and can become a Buddha because of the power of Amitabha’s vow. It is just like a dying person who gets through to an emergency telephone line and is immediately rescued by a doctor.
🔸Third, Amitabha Buddha is a Buddha who helps, protects and embraces sentient beings with his light. Amitabha Buddha’s light is greater than that of all other Buddhas in Dharma Realm, and it is unobstructed by any barrier, such as rough terrain, mountains, rivers and seas. Even karmic forces due to the greed, hatred and delusion of sentient beings cannot obstruct it.
Moreover, Amitabha-reciters have already been embraced, protected, and taken care of by Amitabha’s light before they are reborn, as they are already assured of non-retrogression in the course of achieving Buddhahood.
🔸Fourth, Amitabha Buddha is a Buddha who comes to receive sentient beings near the ends of their lives. Among all Buddhas of all universes, only Amitabha Buddha is called the Buddha of Receiving. The moment that a sentient being’s life comes to an end is most painful. Amitabha Buddha will come personally to receive a person before his last breath. Bringing a multitude of Bodhisattvas, Amitabha Buddha emits light with various kinds of music, fragrant flowers and other splendid scenes, so that the dying person doesn’t feel any pain, but instead feels a joy that he had never experienced before. Eventually, he follows Amitabha Buddha to be reborn in the Pure Land.
🔸Fifth, Amitabha Buddha is a Buddha who is praised and glorified by all Buddhas of all universes.
We are sentient beings in the Land of Saha, whose karmic offenses are the deepest, and afflictions are the heaviest, among all Dharma Realms.
There were 1,400 Buddhas who shook their heads and turned away from us when they learnt of the seriousness of our karmic situation.
But the power of Amitabha Buddha’s vow is the greatest, and his method of delivering sentient beings is most wonderful and most thorough. His light is the brightest and most resplendent and has received sentient beings tirelessly for ten eons. Thus, Amitabha Buddha is unanimously considered to be the King of Buddhas by all other Buddhas. They also urge sentient beings in their own lands to aspire to be reborn in the Land of Bliss and to become Buddhas. So, as volunteers, all Buddhas are admission officers of the University of the Land of Bliss.
🔸Sixth, Amitabha Buddha is a Buddha whose karmic connection with us is the greatest and the deepest. Amitabha Buddha’s great vow is specially made for iniquitous ordinary beings. Wherever there are ordinary beings who are most difficult to teach and to be converted, Amitabha Buddha will deliver them as a matter of priority.
So, Shakyamuni Buddha patiently and tirelessly urges us to recite Amitabha’s Name, and to aspire to be reborn in Amitabha’s Land of Bliss. Shakyamuni Buddha entrusts us to Amitabha Buddha, and Amitabha Buddha is responsible for bringing us to the Land of Bliss to become a Buddha.

For someone from western background, I can explain this in gaming terms: Imagine you're on roleplaying GTA server playing a character with progression. Over the time you realize the goal of playing game is not to just doing same progression, face same issues or tackle same problems. The goal is to learn from the game and make RP better. Amitabha Buddha did what we call pro-gamer move. Where he set up his own RP server where the gaming progression was itself bliss. That way you're born into a world where the game itself is being happy.

Buddhism is about realisation, there is a story A butcher is about to slaughter a animal suddenly stopped and thought he had killed a hundreds of animal how he gonna overcome/clean his bad karma so, he jumped from a mountain top to kill himself he didn't fell down instead he enlightened that's realisation coz he developed a extreme compassion. On the other side a monk was meditating thought a slaughter guy got enlightenment so he must before him he is a monk who do meditation to cleanse his karma and never harm any being jumped from the same mountain and got killed. Moral is simple we must develop realisation which is the way to enlightenment.
You will be reborn into the Pure Land of Amitabha Buddha, and you must spend all your time meditating and studying towards becoming an Arhat or beyond. Imagine it as easy access to a high learning institution in the cosmic sense but you must pass the program or you will fail to be doomed to the Six Realms. Amitabha Buddha was so powerful because he attained so many good deeds that later developed into power in his current life. He dedicated himself to staying in the Trailokya, so he will continue spreading the teachings of Buddhism across the multiverses. Unlike Gautama Buddha who entered Nirvana, Amitabha Buddha pitied everyone so much that he decided to stay here as long as he can to help people escaping from Samsara.

Why does vow 15 of Amitabha Buddha contradict pure land eternal? It states those who wish eternal will stay, but those with original vows will not be eternal?

@@marcchevalier3750 Amitabha Buddha will eventually enter Nirvana but he will leave a certain successor. The Pure Land will remain eternal as a result. That time is immeasurably undetermined.

The purpose of attaining enlightenment and reaching nirvana is to end the cycle of death and rebirth. Being reborn in Pure Land does not end samsara, but rather encourages you to be reborn again. Also, this doctrine of Amitabha Buddha and Pure Land makes it seem like Mahayana Buddhism is polytheistic.

Namo Amitabha Buddha Your points about Theravada Buddhism are noted. In Mahayana Buddhism’s point of view, the purpose of attaining Enlightenment is to become a Buddha, who can benefit himself to reach Nirvana by benefitting other sentient beings to reach Nirvana as well. That is the reason why sentient beings who are reborn in the Pure Land have to return the Land of Saha or alike is to deliver sentient beings there. They will appear in a human form by manifestation (not resulted by karma in Samsara) and speak with their language to preach the Dharma, so as to cease the sufferings caused by Samsara, and to aspire to become the Buddha by delivering other sentient beings too. This doctrine of Amitabha Buddha and Pure Land is also established based on the Law of Dependent Origination. Dharmakara Bodhisattva, the former body of Amitabha Buddha, who made 48 vows in his causal ground to achieve the Land of Bliss. All sentient beings who are reborn there are Bodhisattvas or Buddha-like beings. As Dharmakara Bodhisattva really became Amitabha Buddha ten eons ago as said by Shakyamuni Buddha in the Infinite Life Sutra, those who recite his Name can be definitely reborn in the Land of Bliss, according to Amitabha’s Fundamental Vow, the 18th Vow.

No. Pure land actually encourages to achieve Arhanthood in pure land actually. Amitabh Buddha vows to receive beings who seems going to down due to bad karmic forces.

Not liberated in pure land, only rebirth in pure land for further future rebirth in other realms for karmic forces, all liberation is thru own effort the Buddhas are teachers only. Pure land having 9 levels and each level is divided into 3 segments. The higher the level the higher the purity of each being.

The "pure land" would become a wasteland hell real fast this way. Mahajana is BS for the masses but it's nice. Maybe they mystically describe God and the second chance not to go down from here but up for a while and then here again
I am a little confused, which one is Siddhartha Gautama? And what books or sutras do they sit in? Sorry I'm just trying to clarify

Siddharta Gautama was the name of Sakyamuni Buddha before he attained perfect enlightenment as Buddha. Sakyamuni Buddha himself is historical Buddha who lived on this earth about 2,500 yrs ago and spread his doctrines. So basically all the Buddha's doctrines or Dhamma includes all sutras are his sermon which recorded by his closest disciple. Nobody on this earth could know about Amitabha Buddha whereabouts if Sakyamuni Buddha never teach or mention about him. This is due to meritorious act of Sakyamuni Buddha that we could hear and know about Amitabha Buddha and all other Buddha's teaching.

Amitabha has infinite Life, he lives by the power of his vows to never extinct himself until all sentient beings be saved. He attained enlightenment ten Kalpas ago and is saving sentient beings of the ten directions right now. His Pure Land and his history his teached by Shakyamuni Buddha in the Sukhavativyuha Sutra (Sutra of the Buddha of Infinite Life)
Every buddhas came to show the path to the Nirvana.. There's no human can compare with the buddha, a buddha is equal only to another buddha.. The most valuble lessons of buddhism are including in the Abhidhamma.. every buddhists must try to near the nibbana.. because the metempsychosis is dangerous and difficult thing
Its not so simple, otherwise murderer and people like hitler would have gain liberation easily despite their bad karma...in order to achive dewatchen u need confidence to the buddha and especialy to receive one of the 6 yoga of Naropa, the practise of PHOWA..and of course to keep a ordinary life with compassion and developing the wish for benefit others.. then only u go to Buddha Amitabha pure land...

This sounds more like a marketing script than anything else. It’s really questionable when such claims about Amitabha Buddha is presented as an observable fact. Which of course it isn’t. A pity that buddhism is interpreted in such a oversimplified manner, as if we are discussing football teams ranked by performances and league position, rather than celestial mysteries, largely unavailabe to most of us. Hopefully, the author of this script will find more wisdom, and open his mind to a more humble and less arrogant approach.
I said amithabha amithabha so why am I still not a buddha?

Because you need to have the correct mind, the correct mode of practice and to be born in the Pure Land to become a Buddha in this path. Here in this life, through the correct practice, you are assured of birth into the Pure Land after death, when you die you'll be born in Pure Land and there you will become a Buddha

There's no original Buddhism. This teaching is totally based on Mahayana Buddhism
Mahayana Buddhism developed more than 600 years after Buddha, so it contains a lot of teachings which deviate from the original teachings of Buddha. Amitabha sutta came 1000 years after Buddha. Buddha never said there are 84000 doors to nibbana. He said there are 84000 dhamma in pali, which means 84000 truths. He said the only path to nibbana is the noble eightfold path consisting of virtue, concentration and wisdom. So go back to original Buddhism.

I too mistrusted Mahayana Buddhism until I did some scholarly research and developed an interest in quantum physics. Quantum physics will support the existence of Amitabha and the Dharmakaya and all the other Buddhas. The psycho-reactive nature of the mind after death will also lend support to the existence of Amitabha as an emanation from the Dharmakaya or field of all possibilities.. No one knows the precise time when Mahayana Buddhism was born. There is no 'original' Buddhism, just undiscovered and untranslated sutras and texts and lots of work was lost during the time when Buddhism was making its way along the Pali road. I refer you to recent discoveries in astrophysics about the multi-dimensional nature of the millions of universes. About this, if you read the Sutra, Sakyamuni Buddha taught Dhamma not only in Human Realm, He Taught Dhamma also in Deva Realms, and in Dragon King Realm also, that's Why some Mahayana Sutra came to Human world after Hundred of Years after Buddha Parinibbana. And Hundreds of years is just days in Deva Realm. If you understand Mahayana Teaching you will really amazed by how Buddhism teach about Galaxy, universe, etc. Amitabha Buddha, Medicine Buddha, and trillion of Buddha in the universe is not from earth, it's another planets Buddha's.
What do Buddhists think of Jesus? He seems similar......no?
Have you heard of some people calling Amitabha Name and still enter hell - no dieties and buddhas did not come to bring him to the Pureland? One needs to explain the exceptions and not just make it sound great and the best.

We human has gathered many good deeds. When death comes we are able to enter heaven based on our good deeds. Then we're being told there's another heaven called pureland which is not attached to rebirth cycle. The only way to enter pureland is to chant the name of "the owner" (since our good deeds is qualified the rest is chanting the name) This is just my opinion. I might be wrong haha

@Chaos Sword @Chaos Sword. I think you mean described in the Infinite Light and Life Sutra. Yes, there is a 'border land' for those who lack Faith in Amitabha and his Pureland. However, there are also those who have committed many serious crimes before coming to hear and know of Amitabha Buddha, upon death and with faith they call his Name and can be born in the Pureland within Lotus flower (not border land). Amituofo.
