What Are The Advantages/Disadvantages Of Titanium Nibs? - Q&A Slices

I've heard a lot about the differences between steel and gold nibs, and I understand them pretty well in general. However, I've heard very little about titanium nibs. I've heard them mentioned and seen them offered on Karas Kustoms pens, but that's about it. What are the advantages/disadvantages of titanium (price, performance, etc.)?
there aren’t a whole ton of titanium nibs out there
I’ve personally only used two: Stipula and Karas Kustoms
both write similarly, soft and flexible with good line variation, pretty toothy
more expensive than steel nibs, not as much as gold
we’re looking to add them as an option for Karas Kustoms

titanium is a pain to machine and stamp. it's somewhat expensive but not outrageous. also when you slice titanium it can spring. just my guesses as a machinist as to why there aren't more titanium nibs.

This. I came here to express this exact opinion. The very qualities that make titanium and titanium alloys "wonder metals" also make it exasperating to work with.

Only thing I can think of why Ti nibs are so rare is because titanium is terrible to work with in creating ANYTHING out of it. People think the high price of Ti goods is due to it being rare somehow. No! Actually, titanium is common as dirt with basically all of the massive supplies of it coming from China. It's not rare at all. The prices are due to how hard it is to work with. Steel and gold nibs are much easier to create compared to Ti nibs. I'm guessing the large fountain pen companies don't want to take on the added cost of using Ti nibs. Especially since the vast majority of their customers expect steel nibs on lower-end models, and gold nibs on more premium lines. A small company like KARAS Kustoms can afford to offer that as an option because they don't make pens nearly as much in the quantities that companies like Pilot, Platinum, or LAMY crank out.

I'm still new to the Fountain pen community and was wondering if the non flex nibs were purely for writing normal things such as notes, or if there was some advantage over flex nibs that the non flex have. If someone would be willing to answer me so long as my question was clear enough for you or if you could guide me to a video that possibly provides some answers to advantages of both flex and non-flex pens that would be most appreciated!

+wideload 97 This video on nib sizes and grinds might be helpful (kzread.info/dash/bejne/gpmc05aDpKzJkbQ.html) but in general, flex nibs tend to be used more for the artistic writing. Writing with a flex nib also takes a good deal of practice, so the learning curve might be steep. Writing with a non-flex pen is more natural for those coming from ballpoint pens. - Colin

+Sorual Yes. Noodler's inks come with a variety of different properties (cdn-tp1.mozu.com/6639-m1/cms/files/noodlers-ink-properties.pdf?_mzts=635922838920000000) all of which can affect the flow. Also, the pen/nib could affect this. - Colin
