What are SharePoint Hub Sites?

In this video we explore what SharePoint hub sites are for, and look at what happens when you associate sites with one. We also show you how to associate and dissociate sites.
If you want to see how to create a hub site then our last video; "The New SharePoint Admin Centre" will give you some pointers.

    3.5years later, this video (and the replies below) holds up as the easiest, clearest, and most helpful information for understanding hub sites and how they work with team and communication sites.

    Simple and Easy to understand. Quick question regarding access Management. From your video, say a user only has access to Electronic Events but don't have access Product marketing. will they see anything from Product Marketing at the Hub Site (Contoso Marketing Central)?

    Hi, did you have to add the navigation at the top yourself of does the hub site automatically pick add the associated sites to the navigation? My navigation only shows the hub site link and no associated sites.

    When you added, associated the last one it didn't show up in the menu at the top? is it because it hadn't refreshed?

    Another great vid 👍 Quick question, is it possible to share an Office 365 SharePoint Communication site securely with colleagues who don't have 365 accounts?

  • @CollaborationCoach

    Thanks for watching. You can share a Communications site with a someone who doesn’t have an Office 365 account. But if you want them to login securely they will need a Microsoft account; that’s either outlook.com, hotmail.com, xbox.com etc which are all free. First you need to make sure that the site can be shared externally. This is done by the Office 365 administrator. They need to go to the modern admin centre, go to the active sites page and choose the site they want to share. Then choose the Information panel, go to External Sharing and choose Edit. Then they choose New and Existing Guests as the sharing option. Once that’s done you can share from the site. Go to the settings wheel in the top right corner and choose site permissions. Then choose the Share Site button. Type in the email address of the person you want to share with. They will receive an email with a link to the site. They click on the link and it asks them how they want to login. The choose Microsoft Account, and then enter the email and password of their MIcrosoft account. Then it will take them to the site.

    I'm back for a second and third review (maybe fourth). Two questions please ... 1) Assume the 'Product Marketing' site in the UK is actually comprised of two separate business units: i.e., 'Products - Commerical' and 'Products - Consumer'. Can the 'Product-Marketing-UK' site be set up as a 'sub-Hub of the newly created primary 'Hub Site', 2) How can you tell the Electronic Events site is a 'Team Site' and not a 'Communication Site'? Appreciate any guidance ... thank you

  • @CollaborationCoach

    @CollaborationCoach

    1) Yes 2) Usually Teams site have the navigation along the left hand side. Also Team site are usually linked to Microsoft 365 groups, so they have a members link in the top right corner. If they have a Group Membership page then they are a Team site.

    Hey, would you organize sister companies of an organization in hubsites?

  • @CollaborationCoach

    @CollaborationCoach

    4 жыл бұрын

    Sorry for the late reply, this is a great question, so I had to think about it. I would probably have a hub site for each of the sister companies. That way they could be completely separate but still available to everyone in the organisation as a whole. You could then use a Home Site to tie together all the hub sites of the sister companies. Have a watch of my video on Home sites and see if this makes sense. kzread.info/dash/bejne/h36Nj6ydj9uagpc.html

    Could your HUB SITE be your Intraweb HOME site? Then could the four sites (mktg, product, contoso, electronic) each be a Hub which could be associated with the HOME site? And each of the four outside hubs could have multiple spoke sites associated back to the hub.

  • @CollaborationCoach

    @CollaborationCoach

    3 жыл бұрын

    You can't link a hub to another hub. So the intranet home site would have to be the hub, and then the mktg, product, contoso, electronic site would be linked to that.
