I think so. A cyborg isn't exclusively an augmented human, any being that's some combination of organic and robotic parts qualifies as a cyborg. For example, terminators are one popular example of a cyborg, even though a terminator's organic part is only a covering that the robotic skeleton underneath can easily live without. Steven being partially robotic since birth wouldn't disqualify him from cyborg status. However, it's hard to say which parts of Steven specifically are robotic and which are human. It's possible that every single cell in Steven's body has both gem parts and biological parts, making each of his cells a cyborg in its own right. Although, I'm not exactly an expert on biology, but I doubt that would help me much with determining what happens when a fictional magical hologram rock alien and a human have a baby.

This theory actually perfectly goes with the new directions that the show has recently taken. I believe that White Diamond, who is "not like us, not even like them (Blue and Yellow Diamond)" could have been created as a carbon life form compressed into the core of Homeworld, hence the fact that the planet is split in half. She could have begun creating the gems, and formed them into her image. She is the only life form of Homeworld, and perhaps that is why all gems are sexless but appear female, just like her. Either that or perhaps she was formed in a star, giving her power over light energy, but I don't really have a realistic explanation for that (realism for the species of lesbian rocks, haha). That's only just my take on it though.

only one point / correction to this: When the gems shatter, they are completely unable to generate physical form or a clear path of thought, however, they never die. When Yellow Diamond experiments with forced fusion all the shards have some piece of data about the gem, feet with hands, eyes with mouths, its horrifying, because they become an amalgamation of a bunch of random data from random gems, a single shard could reform into a hand and crawl aimlessly forever in search for the rest of itself, cause in the end, the main objective of a gem is to generate its FORM and be alive and conscious. In season 1 episode 4 on "Together Breakfast", garnet arrives from a solo mission to retrieve an ancient scroll that seems to be cursed, as steven stares its like it whispers to his mind, turns out the paint used to make the illustrations on the scroll was GROUND UP PIGMENT FROM GEMS. it was alive, and became a whole problem through the episode!

The algorithm has picked this one up after 4 years, right when the All Tomorrows fandom is being formed. Not surprising because All Tomorrows is in the thumbnail lol.

Great theory! Only one problem... They would take an INFINITE amount of energy to be born. As they never die except if they shatter. sooo... complementing your theory i think the Diamonds were created by the original lifetype of Homeworld, and like Skynet they took over and slughtered the other living species and then became the dominant species in Homeworld. After that, they proceeded to build and maintain an empire and it finnaly culminated into rte Earth Rebellion, which lead tho the events of the show

Two robotic alien races that were in their own civil wars due to a resource crisis that threatens the new generation as they are weaker than the last. The good guys (the crystal gems and autobots) are severely outnumbered by the bad guys (homeworld and the decepticon). The few differences between them is that one is all female who are made out of precious stones while the other are mostly males who are made of metallic ores. Wow, talking about a parallel universe right? Also I'm aware that the gems are sexless beings and the same might be said to be cybertronions, but you can tell which ones are more feminine and more masculine.

The IDW version, as well as the aligned one (The one from Transformers Prime, and the book exodus) are the one with the heavier comparisons in culture. other thing in similar is the "faith", both species see their leaders as deities, the Prime`s were the first sons of Primus, the creator, and are selected by him; as for the Gems, The Diamonds are the mothers of their empire

TREY the Explainer Yeah, fully corrupted gems are essentially the closest things to accurate aliens we have in the show, considering hardly any of them have the humanoid body type and possess several traits that relate to Wayne Barlowe's Aliens and the Snaiad Aliens. But yeah, it would be cool if we saw something like an accurate depiction of 'Sneople,' as Ronaldo refers them to, or even alien dinosaurs. It would make sense for the aliens to be dinosaur-like as a reference to how rocks are commonly associated with paleontology.

TREY the Explainer Yup. The Crewniverse is full of surprises, so who knows what they'll unveil. Maybe the series will have some gravity falls or adventure time-ish material where we see skeletal remains of extraterrestrial beings or creatures hidden in the background of certain episodes or locations.

All good. Except for the fact that Gems physical bodies aren't made from the nanobots controlling the GASES in the air; Gem's forms are made from the nanobots controlling LIGHT in the air. Photons are massless particles, therefore that a gem's physical form can't have photons due to how much mass their bodies alone can create.

only thing i would dispute is how they form their physical bodies. I'm quite positive that they are made of photons entirely. otherwise they would form completely different in different environments. so they don't construct their body through nanomachines, and they aren't made of any compounds. they are photons with mass, all produced by the energy from the gem.

If you watch the episode "Three Gems and a Baby" it is stated that Steven is a fusion as Rose was trying to split when he was just a baby, but it's clear that she wasn't able to and so she's pretty much stuck with him. I like to think that Steven's just a "hybrid" fusion between Rose and Greg, if that makes sense. But whether or not Steven actually is a fusion is kind of a different story in a way.

No, for real. The thing about the gemstone being the computer, essentially, and the thing about particle manipulation is a great explanation(generally) instead of them actually being magical, which is a potentially more socially-acceptable explanation amongst the gems. Extending on this a little could also explain fusion, in the sense that both "computers" could sync up with each other to form a higher grade Gem, with its own distinct coding patterns dependent upon the inputs from the parent Gems. I know that's a bit out of hand, but still.

my theory is they created white diamonds as an ai with a purpose similar to AM, they went rogue, killed them, and started trying to replicate herself, over time, the gems essentially strayed further and further until pink, inwhich she gave up and made different gems, by era 2 the gems being produced were straying from their blueprints aswell, this is why era 2 gems show more emotion then era 1 gems.

This has been in my watch later for 7 years, doesn't disappoint tbh

...because its incorrect; you aren't shaping a shift, you are shifting your shape. If you're trying to be (unnecessarily) different, you need to say 'when shiftING shape', which is, of course, superfluous language and therefore should be reversed to the appropriate 'shape-shifting' for common language discussions.

Well, if we use this video's nanomachine analogy, Steven's nanomachines exit his body, break down Connie (and Steven) on a molecular level, create a new being using Connie's Genetics and Steven's hybrid genetics.

A lot of fans believe their physical forms to be made of "frozen light". Light becoming a solid is actually a very interesting topic and I highly recommend researching it! I quite enjoyed learning about it

One small error. When a gem is shattered, it's mind ISN'T destroyed. It's fragmented and still conscious.

Yeah, it has a very basic consciousness to it where it needs to form and will form if given the chance. Even if it just forms into an eye, a leg, an arm, etc. As seen with how that need allowed a shard to possess/power Frybo and in The Secret Team when all the gem shards reformed into body parts. The Cluster especially proves all of this too.

I don't think the video said that the gem's mind was destroyed after shattering a gem, it could be that the nano machines split, so instead of having a whole mind composed out of millions of nano machines, it is like half a mind composed of broken and split nano machines, which is why they form only limbs and not a whole body.

So gems either are AIs created by somebody, or... they _are_ the Uploaded original organic creators. Still, the main weak point of your iteration of the idea is that they use organic components for energy collecting. Organics is actually pretty terrible at acquiring energy, they lose a lot of what the planet is receives from it's sun. I think that organic is used to create the gem structure, but they are powered by some other form of energy, and it might be potentially infinite (since we yet to see a gem that died of old age, and Pearl, I think, plainly stated that they are immortal, and she isn't a type of character that is prone to exaggerations, so most likely she meant that in a literal sense). So, possibly they are able to efficiently harvest the vacuum energy? Energy crisis in this sense might be linked to the the gem civilization's expand at a greater rate than their gem population. So there is just the issue of production unable to fulfill the demand. It is possible that this energy is more reliant, and/or maybe the fact that it is limitless, provides a reason to why the gems are not bothering with a Dyson swarm - it is inefficient in comparison, and also might produce _less_ energy than n amount of gems. And it is also might be easier to find complex organic matter, rather than trying to synthesize it from raw materials.

Maybe gems do some sort of crystal based fission or fusion? You can make diamonds with radioactive elements and they'll produce DC current. Maybe they do the same with other gems, and the nucleoitides are part of the resources they're saying Homeworld is running out of... They use a lot of energy over the eons they're around. Vacuum energy is better though. Even with nuclear power, they'd start running out after a while.

YT recommended me this video after 7 years, and it's surprisingly accurate as far as I know, the only problem with it would be Rebecca Sugar confirming "they are powered by sunlight", so here are some points I would add to complement the video: * The surface of their gems works like solar panels, capturing sunlight. This is why their gems are always exposed and even baby Steven had an instinctive reaction to unbutton his clothes. * Amethyst emerged late because she's defective, this might be way she likes eating so much, her gem subconsciously trying to get more nutrients. * The amount of organic matter in the surroundings of the gem probably defines how much nanobots a gem can control at a time, this is why shapeshifting into things bigger than the natural size of a gem is stressful, like how Amethyst shapeshifted to mimic Jasper's appearance.

I think Gems were created by an intelligent species (Organic) that was more advanced at the time than Humans ever were as an experiment,or maybe as Labour or Companions,But got out of hand as they saw that they were enslaved by that species,and thus rebelled against them and became racist toward all Organic lifeforms.

I agree with you. The creators of the Gems no longer exist, since all Gems believes that their sole purpose is to serve the Diamonds; not an entity superior to Gems. The gems are really like a von Neumann probe that gets out of the hand of its creator, the creators may have causes their own decline by doing so. I think none of the Gems actually know it, except the Diamonds
