What are biofuels?

What do biobutanol, biogas, biomethane, biodiesel and ethanol have in common?
They're all part of the biofuels family!
That is, they are produced from biomass and run vehicles on plant matter such as corn, sugar cane or liquid manure.
3 million barrels of biofuels are consumed worldwide every day, mostly blended with conventional fuel. Today, they meet just 0.7% of global demand and 1.8% of French primary energy demand...
Do we really know what biofuels are? What are they made from? How can they be differentiated? And what role can they play in the energy transition?
We took advantage of our stopover in Brazil, the world's 2nd-largest biofuel producer after the United States, to compile a 3-minute overview for you in this educational video!
