What Are All the Ways to Avoid Fall Damage in TF2?
Ойындар
Unlike death and taxes, fall damage in TF2 is not so inevitable. Whether it be intelligent decision-making or Source Engine jank, there are plenty of ways that players can avoid taking this gravity-induced damage

casual players have found out they can avoid fall damage by dying to a level 3 sentry before they land. they are truly leading the meta of tf2
Interesting concept. There's some more niche mechanics that are predominantly 'jumper' specific that you didn't cover, but to name a handful there's: Forced unsync ctap bouncing Interp bugging Timescale bugging Jump tick decline bounce Entity projectile collision deceleration Shutter bugging Wall surfing is also entirely materially distinct from wall glitching and is an additional separate way of mitigating adverse gravitational deceleration oriented health dissipation. Perhaps a 4 hour discussion video could be produced to compressively address this pertinent issue of our time.

Bro really threw the word soup at the end: "adverse gravitational deceleration oriented health dissipation" is just fall damage 😂
Considering its origins in Quake, the fall damage in TF2 is really insane. In Quake you basically only ever take like 5 damage from a fall.
An off topic question: what if Demoknight specifically had a class limit 1 separate from normal Demo?

Hello friend
i believe an edgebug happens when your trajectory makes your bounding box pass through the edge but you're going fast enough that the moment you're actually touching a surface is between ticks. the physics engine interpolates that moment you pass the edge resets your vertical momentum but any other mechanics related to hitting the floor (applying ground friction, taking fall damage) happen after your new position is calculated and never activate since you're always in the air on any given tick.
One more way is to kill bind mid air
I played a (one) 6s pug in like 2013. Thats the extent of my comp TF2 expereince. That said, I watch all your videos religiously. Always interesting and a good watch, well presented and its awesome to see you improve bit by bit in the bg demos. Lova ya rumpus thanks for the vids.
I could be wrong but an edgebug is basically hitting the edge of anything solid on the map (works on props too) in a way that the game basically thinks you are surfing for 1 frame They are surprisingly a lot more popular in CS, even though there is no way to explosive jump, because the map de_nuke has very popular and consistent ways to edgebug. Most CS players know wayyyyy more about edgebugs than me for that reason.
I'd disagree on edge bug being the most accessible. Landing on the surfable ramp and sliding down it is a lot easier. Although, I might be biased because of CS where it's a primary method of avoiding fall damage (see: drop from heaven on Nuke)

your videos are great. Very calm and informative commentary
Jump bug, slope bug, edgebug, and overheal are my predictions before I watch the video.

Nice! how frequently do you edge in your games?
copy pasted from a reddit comment "Edgebugs happen when you land on an edge diagonally and slide off it again within the same tick. What happens is you first hit the ground and get your falling speed reset to zero, then your horizontal speed is applied, causing you to end up in midair again. The fall damage check happens at the very end of the tick, sees that you're not on the ground and thus doesn't apply any damage. That's also why you don't make sound, you never actually get classed as "on ground" by the movement code."
Please get a low taper fade
Fall damage isn't that big a deal, if like me you die before you hit the ground.

Did you peeps know that try hard comp players use a cheat command to remove random fall damage LOL! Can’t make this shit up it’s actually pathetic, first random crits and random bullet spread but now this? What a joke of a community.
