What an eventful day!

    I have unplugged baler, self propelled Hesston swather so can relate to having to to do it, however I have never run a combine. In my younger days I once worked on a cattle ranch we only did alfalfa, mountain grass in our fields. I have either chiseled, ground off many rivets on sickle bars. There is always a first time for everything that can go wrong with farm machinery. Have a pleasant week and day off.

    Go to harbor freight or Princess auto and those air-powered chisels are cheap. Put one on each combine. That is if my memory serves me correctly and you have air couplers on them. You could actually put a 50' hose reel upfront and be able to blow stuff or run an air tool any place on the combine. You can always count on trouble striking you when you are just about to quit and now you are going to have to spends hours fixing it.

The standard crops in Germany are Barly, Canola, Wheat next to Beans (we call the "Sau Bohnen" pig beans) and Corn it'S not like Soy beans smaller and you need a Canola header because the plants are that close and growing together. Corn we use more for chaff also like Rye and Field Grass

    I don’t understand such a sophisticated machine and they still use the same power transmission as 100 years ago. Not to mention how much energy is lost in all these belts. A simple diesel generator that would supply power to individual electric motors would be a hugely better solution. Diesel-electric locomotives have been operating in this way for over 50 years. Great video Mike;)

  • @heavyweight6440

    @heavyweight6440

    There is almost no loss in power due to the belts. If there was the belts would be dead within a few minutes of work, but they arent. There is no slipping, so the power throughput is close to 100%. The Idea with the motors could work, but you will make the machine quite wide. This is quite a problem when you want to have a road legal combine.

  • @MiracleManMatt

    @MiracleManMatt

    Id rather go with hydraulic motors, probably less chance of a fire and its tried and tested tech. Everything can be easily controlled with proportional valves, reversed etc, and have relief valves on so rather than throw a belt/snap an idler/break shear screws, it just goes through teh relief valve. Granted probably more power loss than belts but it would be interesting!

    Mike respect you’ve invested into the IDEAL combine early on. It’s Mk1 and knowing FENDT half your problems will be gone when Mk3 is released. 🤙 I know Lentils are one of the harder crops to process for combines in general. About the trucks I wish you guys would have a proper Tatra dealer over there they’re the best European agri truck available and looking at those American trucks makes me wish they’re available over there.

    I farm is SD in the States so there are different load laws here than Sask. but with the Tatras (awesome trucks btw) the issue might be more how the highway departments regulate weight per axle/tire. I'm mostly familiar with Tatra's off road/military trucks so maybe I'm missing something.

  • @xSCHEF

    @xSCHEF

    John Wellnitz oh shit I’m dealing with a North American who actually knows Tatra? *internal shutdown* I’ve no idea how to respond I only know how it’s done in Western Europe and Tatra trucks can carry up to 80 kubic meters of silage on the road legally wielding agri tires. I’ll admit that very rarely a farm has fields more than 10km away from the farm so transport is hardly on the farmers’ mind. Having said that a contractor using Tatra for combining/silage jobs is held in extremely high regard. Example, and yes it isn’t Tatra but GINAF is held in the same regard as Tatra, operations such as this one: kzread.info/dash/bejne/l2mWxK2ae83Zf84.html are leading the charge. My country (The Netherlands) is an outliner in how we value AgriTrucks from Tatra, GINAF, MAN. They’re used for silage, liquid manure, muckspreading, firtilizing, hay + straw bale transport you name it. Excuse my shitty Dutch English and bad formatting I hate typing on mobile but I only want to inform you guys on how we do it. Edit: Tatra is known for its military trucks but they’re even bigger in Agriculture. Here’s a 2019 truck spreading chucking manure: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aaSK2a6uk9OZlpM.html They’re such a ducking pleasure to operate feels like driving a Mercedes tbh. Tatra Phoenix is worth every single penny as long as you have service.
