Studies have found intermittent fasting has a greater cause and effect relationship with binge eating than just eating your normal 3 balanced meals a day. Also please stop telling people they have to be an “ideal” body comp to have an enjoyable hiking experience or to be “a hiker.” Do you have legs to help you walk? Do you have a core and spine to keep you upright? Do you have arms and hands to balance? Great, have fun on your hike. Also how f cold are you gonna be on a mountain with sub 10% body fat?

I love how this interview is very much in line with the channel, which emphasis on body AND mind , and generally re-simplifying health. The same way you publish videos both on training and relaxing the body, the guest guides us on: - listen to your body (eat when you're hungry) - trust your body (on its billion years history of adaptation) - prepare the body without fear (supplement more without the too much)

Mostly good information here. Liked that he debunked the myth that you should eat way more protein than you actually need. As he said, calories are energy so no matter what, if you take less energy in than you need, you are going to loose fat no matter what. There are no other factors that play into fat loss. If you dont loose weight, then you are not in a deficit, its pretty easy. Dont overcomplicate things. Hope you have a great day

@@bensosnowski1128 That is simply not true and was disproven a lot by objective studys. I gained around 15kg of muscle when i started working our, over the course of four years. I can tell the difference when i do not eat enough protein over several day for many reasons: i start losing weight, i do not perform good, my appetite for "unhealthy" carbs like sugary stuff or white bread increases. When i now have an active day at work or when being outdoors or simply when i work out twice that day, i can burn about 500kcal to 2000kcal more on that day (depends on the activity, but i shit you not). Even on restdays there is a difference. If you really believe that you do not know anything about nutrition and / or you are not active enough to feel the difference. Really liked this video, have started learning about this eating pattern and have adopted it for a few days now.i have some concerns as someone who suffers from a crazy fast metabolism (have been the same weight all my adult life, can eat endlessly and I never change.) I’ve found the morning fasting fine but in the evenings I feel that I’m ravenous and wondering if I need to restructure meals to compensate? Or do I need to replace or add certain foods to counter my endless hunger? I’m pretty much naturally little to zero body fat and often worry when I’m hiking or climbing a lot if I’m just eating away my muscle mass. Any advice/tips or pointers towards good info is hugely welcome!

I don't really like exercising during the fasting period but I've always done that in the afternoon anyway so it's not an issue. After about 5-6 weeks I stopped being hungry during the fast and just have a nice stable energy level.

I've found that I'll snack out of boredom. That being said I've more or less eaten two meals a day most of my life. Like Max said I eat when I'm hungry and not just because its "time to eat". Like he said you have to listen to your body and be sure to understand the difference between real hunger "need to eat" and just wanting to eat. I've started to put on a bit of weight but more so moving into BMI for my size rather than exceeding BMI. Two meals a day is, in my opinion, a great way to maintain weight if not lose it depending upon activity level.

with regards to protein, all diets end up with around 15-20% protein. doesn't matter if vegan, vegetarian or carnivore. it's just how protein is distributed in food. the issue is the amino acid balance. only meat has this in both the appropriate proportions but crucially it is bio-available. vegetables (carbs/fibre) block much of the nutrients in food including amino acids which is why vegans need to eat a large variety of vegetable types to get a reasonable amino acid profile but also a lot lot more food generally because of the lack of availability of them when digested. in short it's very difficult to get this right for non meat eaters.

I eat a solid 3 meals a day and snack, and most nights I'm having a protein shake with almods, oats, peanut butter, bannana (and protein) for desert, and I still only just manage to keep my weight above 62 kg (for 178 cm height). Basically I would be super concerned with intermittent fasting, at this rate it feels like cutting any of the 3 main meals out will lead to me loosing the only mass I have.

i'm not sure your friend was very clear about 'fat burning' (fat adapted like carnivore/keto people) and exercise. the only disadvantage to keto or carnivore or other 'mostly fat' diets when doing training/exercise etc is explosive movements. so it might not be ideal for tennis where it covers the endurance but less the explosive movements. but for hiking should in theory be ideal. there doesn't seem to be any reason you couldn't be fat based eating on a multi-day hike as you should in theory have a steady stream of energy when you need it. arguably more so than a carb or carb/fat basis, where your body is switched to sugar burning so you constantly get hunger pangs and energy highs and lows. maybe you wanna revisit this to make it clear.
