What a woman THRIVING with MS can teach you

What's it like to live with Multiple Sclerosis? I interview Alene Brennan of Less Pharm More Table, who lives and thrives with MS. She shares her MS story - what it was like to get diagnosed, what she's done with medications, diet, lifestyle, etc, and she shares some advice for anyone also living with this autoimmune disorder. This is a must-watch for ANYONE with an autoimmune disease - not just MS!

So good! Thanks! I hope she starts releasing more podcasts and info on her channel again. PS: I'm a certified Reiki Practitioner, and Reiki is done by the laying on of hands on the body. We work with the chakra system and it's considered healing energy work. 🙂🙏

That's so awesome that you're a reiki practitioner! I've learned so much over the last year about energy systems between my Qi Gong Teacher certification work and the Yoga teacher certification class I'm taking. It's fascinating to me (especially when you compare like the Chinese meridian system with the chakra system, etc - so many similarities)

Hi Abi! Thanks for watching and sharing a comment. The truth is I've done a lot of therapies since my diagnosis that I believe helped me to stabilize the disease and reduce my symptoms. I believe what had the greatest impact for me were the dietary changes, managing stress (it's easy to overlook stress management, but it truly was a critical step in my healing and will be a lifelong practice for me.), targeted supplements, and I do a lot of bodywork such as acupuncture. It will be slightly different for each person, but I think the big buckets are food, movement, and stress management. Hope this helps!

What kind of MS was her diagnosis? Can we ever get to the root cause of why this happens?

Hmm... good question about the type. I'm not sure so 'll have to ask her. As for root cause - that's one I wish we all knew, for all of the autoimmune diseases. No one is sure of any of them. Some can be "linked" to certain viruses or bacterial infections, some are linked to toxins, some are linked to emotional distress, but there is no definitive, "yes, that's what caused it." It would solve a lot I think if they could figure that out (I'd love to know it especially for my son's Type 1 Diabetes, as we would rather our youngest doesn't get that too. I'd think knowing the cause could help us avoid that)

Hi Rosa! I was diagnosed with Relapsing Remitting MS. And you certainly ask a great question about getting to the root of why it's happening. I personally believe in epigenetic - we can be predisposed to a disease but it's something in our environment, diet or lifestyle that "turns it on." As Michele said, it can be a virus, toxins, emotional stress (I was diagnosed 6 weeks after losing my mom to cancer.), etc. One thing I know for sure, it's not something that we should ever suggest that it was our "fault." We are always doing the very best we can, given the knowledge we have at that moment. The root cause to autoimmune disease, is a big topic for sure, but I hope this helps.
